hopefully we hear something about Last of Us 2

I'll be honest, I love Last of Us and consider it one of the greatest games ever made, but the idea of making a sequel for it horrifies me.

I suppose I should have seen it coming. Maybe I'll end up liking it. If it features Ellie or Nate as a main character, I suspect that, between bouts of nausea, I will probably steel myself and buy it.

But the hypothetical thought of it? Ick. I can't see any way to do it without damaging the legacy of the first's story. I can't even say why, because I refuse to risk even the slightest spoiler, lest anyone who hasn't played it reads my post.

You're right.  It doesn't get any better than perfect.  And if any game ever came close to perfect it was damn sure Last of Us.  With a group of people that talented and that gifted at their job I would rather have it than not.  I still think they would do a great job.  I think it would be loved and great even if it didn't quite live up to the first one (which would be hard for sure).

I don't get choked up or anything....ever.  There were 2 parts where I could have in that game though.  10/10 and I have the utmost respect for everyone involved in that game.  They are truly masters of their craft.

The MP was pretty shallow, but it was just tacked on and the SP was obviously what they were going for.  That's fine when you are that good.

Don't forget Dark Souls 3 is coming out this month. Massive PS4 game everybody needs to buy on day 1. Because since it's an online game, it's best on day one with all new players being at your level from the very start.

Yeah, that stuff usually is (same with Tomb Raider, Max Payne III and a bunch of other recent ones that I can't be bothered to remember.)

... I would probably be interested in The Division, but I'm concerned that the PvP part would just detract from the game for me, and besides....

Division is not that good IMHO. There was some recent discussion of it in DAIMP forum and all those who tried open beta actually uninstalled it and are not planning to buy including me.

I've tried to like DS II and spent about 10 hours wondering around. It is a good game, just different style and too much bs for gameplay IMHO. Most of the bs is probably due to me playing on PC and having bad controls. Also, man, the graphics are bad, it is ugly. I still have it installed just cannot make myself start it as so many things are really annoying. Although I'm tempted to try DS III provided that it gets better graphics and better controls on PC.

Took me like 35 hours to get into it (I started with the first one, Demon Souls). Especially after playing Mass Effect series first. So keep playing until you get into it. Trust me, it should happen.

PS- playing it online is also very, very important. Dark Souls series without other players is just not the same at all. So your best bet is to just trust you'll get into DS3 and buy it day one, since the most players will be on when it's new plus most players will be just starting out and learning the game alongside you. Trust me, it'll be one heck on an event. And I'm not going to miss it this time like I did the other ones.

One thing I'm hoping, is that since Drew is now back with BioWare, that if ME:A again fails with story, that he be brought back to lead writer. That guy is a true fan/nerd fanboy of great sci-fi and stuff going by the interviews on making ME1 bonus disk. Why ME1 & 2 worked out so well.

Karpyshyn is just a better writer. Does not mean that he can turn it upside down. Also, they could have put him back just because he is writing a book. After ridiculous failure with Deception and Dietz I am really worried they would try to do something stupid and try to borrow the plot from his Andromeda books. After all, the similarity in name looks quite troublesome. The books are not bad, they are just full of bs and silly things.

I don't have the patience, sorry, I tried, too annoying. Though, I do realize it is not for everyone. I took me 400 hours to get a good grip on ME3 MP and I don't regret a single hour I spent learning the ropes. In the case of DS II, I actually regret spending these 10 h.

^ Interesting.

Well, it does have some cyborgs, so your terminator twin might like it.

But I'd be very surprised if MEA does not have any blood thirsty emperor or empress, hard ass veterans, obsessive revenge plot, and crashes of a star ship on some hostile remote planet.

I'm just saying I regretted the first 35 hours, but then I was like "This is the best thing ever. So glad I didn't give up on it." Main reason I kept giving it a chance for so long because of the hype for this series. So many are really crazy about this series. As this series became big by word of mouth alone. So I knew I had to be missing something. And surely enough, I was right.

A senior game editor leaving well before the project is due to release doesn't sound good to me.  Since EA took over Bioware, I have had my doubts on their influence on Bioware's game development.  Seen a great game like DAO decline (IMO) as the series progressed.   Hope Bioware will come through with a great ME:A product.   It use to be a given that if it said Bioware on it, you knew it was going to be a very good game.  Nowadays....  For now, I will keep the faith and we shall see.

Just get the multiplayer right;  follow the ME3MP format for success.  Don't reinvent the whole thing, just make it bigger and better with lots of (free) DLC.

I love the system and they did a great job on it.  The games aren't there though.

I agree with you on most of what you said, but this deserves emphasis. While the PS4 environment is a huge step up, all of the games I've enjoyed most are available on PS3 too.

I'm a little surprised though - whatever about the trilogy as a whole, you may be the first person I've encountered who doesn't rate UC2 highly. I played it again recently and found it flawless. That said, different strokes and all that.  :)

I'll be honest, I love Last of Us and consider it one of the greatest games ever made, but the idea of making a sequel for it horrifies me.

...

I refuse to risk even the slightest spoiler, lest anyone who hasn't played it reads my post.

I'm torn between feeling like you, and acknowledging everything NextArishok said about the sheer quality which could still be expected from a sequel. As for the spoiler issue, I agree 100%.

But, if you're reading this as a game-playing adult and do own either a PS3 or PS4, but haven't played The Last of Us by now, what the hell is wrong with you?! It is breathtakingly good.

Sinful, I'm seriously jealous of your excitement but I'm with akots1 - I tried Dark Souls 1 and 2, having had those games recommended to me by friends I respect, and folks here ( :P  ;) ) along with Bloodborne, but they're just not for me.  I don't have the patience anymore to try to learn to work out what's going on an environment that is initially alienating, if I have no real reason to do so.  I do know I'm missing out on some good stuff, but I guess I just prefer my virtual reality to be closer to a reality I can either identify with or imagine with the help of Star Trek as a template of sorts. It's like The Witcher or Skyrim - I have absolutely no doubt they're both brilliant, but I still have no interest because I have an allergy to Tolkien-esque fantasy. As I said above, different strokes for different folks.

It's an exciting time to be too busy to play video games.

Maybe for a bit longer. But it won't last with blockbuster games with game budget rising too fast, thus leading everyone into corporate controlling hands to survive. Happened to Hollywood. And good thing we're still nowhere the quality of junk Hollywood produces these days. Even notable director like Spielbeg can't do the movies they want. Creative freedom is dying everywhere in favour of what the no talent corporate suits think is best based on statistics and other BS. Why do you think all EA games now have player playthrough info uploaded? Why was that new BioWare IP canceled? Because why create something new when you can play it safe and release the same thing over and over again. ie. new Star Wars was just like the first, new Jurassic Park was just like the first. Always another Origin story for comic book movies. And now Mass Effect is going to be just like the first. But we're still not at Hollywood levels, so there's still some hope...

I'm not completely sure how you intended this response to relate to my post, but I pretty much agree with you. I would point out, though, that consumers are part of this loop. You don't make lots of money by giving people what they don't want. While giving a particularly vile and loathsome fanbase (not that we could name any of those...) what it wants may drag things down a bit more and in more disappointing ways, people in general are a bit on the neophobic side. If the fans reward an overly conservative approach to development, it's hard to blame the suits.

The Division is an excellent game (only played the Beta and now about 30 mins of released game - damn work)

Very smooth playing and nice 3rd person shooter RPG (like Mass Effect!). Honestly for people who like ME3MP The Division is a game which should be strongly considered

The first few months of any online game are always the best, because everyone playing is a pioneer.  You will see characters and classes of all different builds and setups, people experimenting and trying new and different things.  It's the most fun time of any online game because afterwards the min/max starts and the "best" builds and setups are discovered and everyone is exactly the same from that point onward.

Meh, diffference is if I don't like the game I'll just lose interest and play something else. I won't cry about it on the forums for 4 years straight as if it ruined my whole reason for existence.

I've no doubt ME:A will be a huge success, regardless and plenty of people will love it. I just personally hated the toaster hugging transhumanist garbage they pushed so hard in the 3rd game with things like the hamfisted "robots are people too" subplots and green ending, and wouldn't want to slog through more of it, but that's probably not a widespread opinion anyway. I also don't care for ME1 style "exploration" boring me to tears for 30 hours of a 35 hour game, which most early indications tell me is the direction the game's headed.

I'm not so sure. The game is out and multiple people have beaten it in coop and it took only 4 hours for the whole main story. It costs $100 with season pass. Death Zone is barely functional atm but I'm sure it'll get better. Also, there is no role playing whatsoever, at least I have not seen anything that suggests you can choose any dialog options. There are only 2 (two!) skills you can use in combat. How this can be compared to Mass Effect? I'm really puzzled. However, it is not a bad game IMO.
