Hi all,

Just creating this thread so that it gives an understanding of what kind of trailers the fans prefer. I believe when it comes to games trailers are the most important part of marketing.

 

There is also the issue of Cinematic trailers vs in engine trailers. I know many people have issues with either one of them. I personally don't mind as long as its a well made trailer.

 

That being said I was a little disappointed with the kind of trailers bioware put out with Dragon Age: Inquisition. Some of them were good but most of them were a bit under whelming. What do you guys think? 

I hope this thread helps bioware in deciding what kind of trailers fans liked the best.

The Mass Effect 3 Reinstated trailer with Femshep is my fave.

 

Followed closely by the DAI Trespasser trailer. I SQUEEEEEED. I was watching their conference on Twitch so I saw it before it hit youtube. The hype was real.

I'd say, within context, prior to the game's release, my favorite would be (well, still is) Dragon Age: Inquisition's The Enemy of Thedas trailer.

 

The combination of the trailer's music (especially when the trailer starts), the scenery (at the beginning, followed by the explosion) and because the first thing we hear is " Tell me, where is your Maker now. Call him. Call down his wrath upon me. You cannot, for he does not exist! ". I genuinely felt at the time that we would be facing one of the greatest antagonist of all time. In fact, I was hyped thanks to the impression I got from that trailer, thinking that BioWare had given the DA franchise its ultimate villain. One who - above all things - seems to know more than just pretend (by the sound of it) that the Maker doesn't even exist (within the DA's lore, at least in my book, was a pretty big deal). I could not wait to play that game.

 

Turned out to be a pretty solid game, with one of the weakest antagonist I've ever seen in any game, and arguably the most disappointing one from BioWare to date. That's what trailers can do when they're well crafted. It also reminded me a bit of Revenge of the Sith's trailer, it did reveal a bit too much, but oh boy did it give a completely different vibe compared to the two previous movies (but we all know how that one turned out too, heh). Good job on that one BioWare, 'cause if you wanted to build hype with it, you managed.

1) Mass Effect 2 launch trailer (this one still gives me goosebumps when watching it, whoever put this one together was a genius in the art of emotional manipulation. ).

 

 

 

Honorary mention goes of course to TIM Skijwalkers MEHEM trailer, hahaha (...yea, I'll go now. But honestly, whatever you may think of the mod, his trailer is well made. ).

I also audibly screamed, gasped, cried at the Citadel DLC trailer. It broke me for a day.

I remember graduating high school and being off that summer and seeing this all over IGN and GameSpot.  This was what got me interested in ME1.

I didn't pay attention that long back.. because I wasn't an Xbox fan yet. I was kinda jealous though, if only because I was a Kotor fan and ME was gonna be an exclusive at first.

 

I didn't get an Xbox or Mass Effect until 2009, right before ME2.. It was the ME2 trailers that pushed me.

I only really realized it when I saw the thread.

 

Now that I have thought about it, I've only ever seen a few video game trailers, but none for BioWare*.

 

The only one I can remember having an opinion about was the first trailer for GTA IV, which was a satire/homage to Koyaanisqatsi (mostly as an exercise in showing off the engine's rendering of the cityscape.) I thought that was pretty cool, but that, of course, ended up having no relationship with my opinion of the game.

 

 

 

*Not counting "Honest Game Trailers," which I watch after I've played the game.

Oh, btw, I completely forgot about these but I also really liked the ME3 live action trailers. This one and this one.

 

They may not necessarily have been the best trailers but I really liked them because they showed the universe from more of a civilian angle.
