Its impossible to have a new Mass Effect book?

  •

Drew Karpyshyn That's not my call. I don't control any of the rights to my video game books, characters or stories. Mass Effect is controlled by EA/BioWare, and of course Star Wars is controlled by Disney/Lucas.

So any new books for either of those properties will only happen if those companies decide they want a new novel, and that they want me to write it. If the right story and offer came along, I would be interested, but I don't see anything happening in the near future.

Books like that would be insta-purchase tbh!

Why? If you ask me, Bioware should carve out a new niche market in shorter, smaller scale story driven games about what certain side characters were doing before/after the main series.

I was railroaded enough in having my Shepard defined for me.  I don't need a book adding to it.

well name any Rpg PC you have control over and write a book about that PC. and still a bad re-action will  happen. there is nothing bad or wrong about a decent fanfic. then again a bad fanfic is like any bad novel, it is still bad.

But an official book wouldn't be fanfiction.  It would be canonizing a Shepard.

true regardless of the quality of that work and canonizing a Rpg PC regardless of the quality of said novel does often leave a bad taste in my mouth. For example, from Drew's work I have read, I do consider Revan novel to be his weakest due to the overall quality and it is a canon novel in the context of Kotor Duology and ToR. Drew doesn't deserve half the **** he gets but he is not the best author I have read either.  Between 1 to 10, I do consider him about a 5.

Sidenote: there is no such thing as a perfect author(either non fiction or fiction)

They could get  David Drake, Jack Campbell, and the ghost of Robert A Heinlein to collaborate on the book, and I'd still be mad that they canonized a Shepard  ;)

true I do agree with you. Yeah, As for the Revan Novel, Revan and Bastila gotten married. I don't mind if Bastila gotten Married or gotten pregant by someone else. Bastila, in the context of kotor verse, is her own person. At least with me, a good character growth could have Bastila Shan moving on with her life and gotten into a relationship with someone else and had children while still having good memories of her friendship and/or Romance with Revan. Well Not all male Revans would wanted to date Bastila Shan. Maybe your revan might have in a playthru. or another male Revan could have a crush on any of the party members. Same way with the Female Revan.

Shepard, Revan, Jedi Exile and any rpg PC should have light canon in the sense that they did X. Like Revan re found the Star Forge and Defeat Darth Malak. Shepard stop the Reapers in various methods, Jedi Exile defeat the Sith Trio.

I am slightly annoyed that it is implied that Revan is stronger as of Kotor Light Side ending than the dark side ending. No matter what your build was, Revan is strong enough to defeat Darth Malak. I am tempted to do a gunslinger build for Revan. Same goes for Jedi Exile and Shepard.

Gunslinger Revan is supremely powerful. Scoundrel 7/Guardian 13 FTW. Heavy blaster rifle for pure power or dual pistols for coolness.

The Exile is an absolute beast with pimped out Mandalorian Disintegrators.

I was very miffed that Jedi can't use blasters in SWTOR. Seemed like ditching all the good times a lot of us had playing blaster jedi.

true also Jedi and Sith alike are very over dependant on their sabers(yes I do think that lightsabers are cool). I do understand what you are saying. Like Iakus, Canonizing Shepard leaving a bad taste in his mouth as well as mine. Not in a fun way either.

Don t make them official..just open the rights to writers. Under some conditions that Bioware would have to decide. As it happens with Star Trek or Starwars.
