I'm pretty sure Bioware's game plan is still to use new protagonists in each game. It's just a few fans who keep pushing the issue.

But, y'know, they've been pushing for the Warden to come back for six years too, and so far, Bioware's response to that has been "meh."

There was no reason for the warden to come back, they got plenty of closure. Before Trespasser the Inquisitor had no reason to come back either but Trespasser was like "lol here's a new plotline and personal motivation to continue on."

And yet it's pretty much definite that we won't be the Inquisitor again. I have to wonder what they were thinking when they decided to end Trespasser by creating character and player investment in Solas' plans if they never intended to follow it up. I know we're not going to get any news any time soon, but the wait is killing me. I'm expecting a new PC, but i wish they would just put me out of my misery already haha

It's not rely definite until the Dev's confirm that we won't play the Inqusitor again. I know they've said before that they prefer a new Protagonist every game.....but until they outright say there will be no more Inqusitor, I'll be over here on the fence and not get my hopes up about it.

This is true, but i have seen them say more than once after Inquisition that they intend to keep up the current formula (even if it smells like rotten eggs). But we won;t get the definite "you'll be playing as predator X" until they start releasing stuff about the game, which is a long way away. I'll be joining you on the fence, i'm steeled for disappointment

I have no problem with a new protag every game , I play other games where it's the case and it's fine.

The problem with DA is the way the story is structured , Protag A gets involved in some subplot , then this subplot isn't finished or used as a sequel bait then Protag A disappears for some weird reasons and Protag B comes along and it goes on.

I also have no problem with this in theory but again it's the way it's done in DA that just doesn't work so well.

For example in Fallout 3, the pc can find synth in a side quests , they're from the Boston area.Anyway you do the quests , and it's done .

There's nothing personal here for the fallout 3 pc , a normal side quest like any others but it did open up a sub plot for Fallout 4 for a new pc.

Now in DA you end up with some wardens having a God child with a witch , and the third pc has to deal with this sub plot because well it's there , and the parent is busy in some far away land just because.

Of course I do understand why it's done this way , it would be a mess to bring back the warden .

Then we have Hawke who make a cameo in DAI just to say "Cory is mine" but then he turns around and goes "K thanks , bye, I have something to do somewhere far away!" (sounds familliar?)

and finally the Inquisitor "I will stop you Solas!" and I'm waiting for the "But I can't because I have something to do somewhere far away too!"

Anyway my point is if they keep on with one pc per game , for the love of everything ...solves every personal plots as soon as possible .

Open up new sub plot with non personal stuff when the pc doesn't care much and has little reason to get involved in this in the future , like the Inqui and the Titans.

Of course the problem with this is the fact there are those who don't consider Solas a personal plot. They would say that the Inquisitor has little reason to care.

Same with Hawke, they were just there when the war started. They didn't need to solve it.

I don't ride this train of thought, but i have seen it thrown about

I don't know if this means anything at all in regards to the protagonist of the next game, but Patrick Weekes retweeted this picture of an arm prosthetic yesterday: https://twitter.com/...252861206978561. He's definitely looking into aspects of living without a limb and what prosthetics are capable of whether it's professional or personal interest.

Pic under cut for those who don't want to click through:

Spoiler

Personally, I am well invested in several of my Inquisitors, and very much want to see them return in some capacity.

Thing with Weekes is he seems to like dropping little hints no one really picks up on at random times. Or i think he does

I know that this topic is probably getting on many people's last nerve, but i'm genuinely interested in what people think about the system Bioware has going.

I'm not thinking of any previous protagonist in particular, so please don't assume i'm trying to start an "Inquisitor for DA4" thread, because there are plenty of those out there.

What i'm interested in are the major reasons you agree or disagree with the strategy of a new PC every game, and what you would change if given the choice.

I know that there are people who think that it was decided "since origins" that this is the way they would do it, but other sources suggest that it was actually decided later to have a new PC in each game http://gameranx.com/...be-a-franchise/

EDIT: I mean to say that they had not really had the chance to decide on the direction after Origins, since they didn't foresee it's success. I'm not implying they would have used the Warden again if they knew they would be as successful as they were, simply that it seems the future of the series was undecided.

Feel free to discuss why you wanted or want any of the previous protagonists back, but try and explain your thoughts in as much detail as possible.

Again., sorry for another topic like this, but i would love to know what you think and feel about this formula.

The only reason why I disagree with changing protagonists is because I experienced what Bioware could do when they kept one I am super attached to Shepard and growing as a hero of the all races was so fascinating. ME3 was depressing as a whole but I really loved how before the final fight with the Repears you got to talk with your LI and the crew. In these conversations you could really feel how tired Shepard grew over the years. Very moving trilogy. Huge, huge fan. I hope Bioware will actually keep the protagonist in DA, because I want to have that feeling again - coming back to some of your old crew members and feeling like it is your "virtual family".

I get what you mean. But ME and DA aren't really compatible in some respects. For example, the Reapers were always the big bad you were fighting, if i am not mistaken. This was the same for all 3 games, so having Shep and co. worked pretty well.

For the most part, in DA i think i preferred the new PC idea. However since they have somewhat pulled a ME with the current hero and current antagonist being heavily invested in each other, i would like to see the Inquisitor. Same for why i wanted Hawke to deal with the mage/templar war, which as a huge part of their plot. Until they make the games as separate as they can, the New PC approach will not work for me.

Im for a set PC, you get more invested in the story and you are facing the consequenses of your choices. Meet old friends and continue a love interest story.

With different PC you get alienated and you always have to start at square one again.

As of the end of Tresspasser, I feel the same. As do many others it seems. But as I said earlier, I'm going to stay on my fence and not get my hopes up about seeing the Inqusitor again.

This. I'm all for relationships which last forever, BUT they don't always work out that way......far from it if real life is anything to go by. Out of all the love interests in DA:I, I can only see two -Sera and Cullen- resulting in a 'in love and together forever' status, due to the potential to get married. Sooo.....who knows, maybe our dear Inqusitor broke up with their old love interest? maybe they died?.....in my case my Inqusitor romanced Cass and she became divine.
Having a romance in one game, should not effect the potential to bring back a well loved/liked protagonist.

It could create some juicy drama too, if you haven't broken it off with your old love interest, and the person you've been flirting with wants you to give up on the other person who isn't really around for one reason or another *cough*Solas*cough*.

There high and lows as always which unfortunatly gets left out, by facing these highs and lows you strengthen it.

For example my male warden romanced leliana who is divine in one of the playthroughs. He would sure be upset when he heard the news at first and there would be an argument there and so on. And the time apart has it strained the relationship.

Cassandra is another one who might get jilted. Sera and Cullen, though can be married, you could still cheat. Solas is obvious (though evilness aside, i doubt i could cheat on him)

It could be interesting. That way people who weren't satisfied may still get a "somewhat happily ever after" with one character. And imagine what your other friends would think. They obviously make cliques with each other, so imagine if they disapprove if you cheat on one friend with another. Or what your previous love might say if they are the one who broke off your relationship. I think it could be fun.

Ooo drama, drama is good *Evil cackle*
Seriously though. I could never allow my character to flirt, and certainly not be unfaithful, if he's already with someone. But that's more me projecting my own views on him, rather than role playing. But yes......I can see the potential for trouble here....and I like it *Evil grin*

Reminds me of when shortly after Trespasser came out someone asked him if the Inquisitor could have a prosthetic limb, and Patrick Weekes replies with "Anything's possible".
