Funny thing is, replace "Children" in this statement with "gay romance", and I'm pretty certain Luminous would have been mobbed and butchered by a lot of angry people here. If we can have gay romance, what's so outrageous about having families? And I don't even mean Luminous personally, but the general responses I'm seeing here.

I'm fine with it, personally. My warden is a father in Dragon age and the world didn't shatter apart because of it.

I apologize if my comment seemed rude or intolerant.

I only meant that sim has kids readily available with a storyline that makes sense, and I personally have a tough time with them so I wouldn't want children to be mandatory.

I'm not sure how you justify comparing gay romance to being forced to raise kids. It is, at best, a very false equivalency.

I still say that if we can have kids then it needs to be equal opportunity here.

If you want to have kids running around in a lawless/dangerous frontier, then they should be susceptible to said lawlessness/dangerousness; and no, I don't mean in a "Feelz" sort of way either. Likewise, if we are going to want to see children, then we should be able to see children of the other species, and if we wind up killing the offspring of some other alien, (like say killing week old newborn that happen to mature faster than humanity does) then we shouldn't have any qualms about them doing the same to us. What's fair is fair after all.

I'm not sure how you justify comparing gay romance in an RPG to being forced to raise kids in an action game.

Why are you using the word forced in the first place? If homosexual romance can be optional, why not children too? And the comparision comes from how people shun one idea because they find it distasteful while the other easily gets a free pass. My point is, why is ok to say "I don't want any kids in my game, it's stupid, I hate it and it shouldn't be allowed" while if the same argument is used for homosexual romance, there is no shortage of blacklash? Isn't this place supposed to be "accepting" for all ideas, rather then just a selected few?

You quoted someone responding to the idea of being forced to raise kids, and than suggested that their response could be directly compared to those of people responding to being exposed to gay romance. Neither post mentioned "optional" until you did, just now.

And the comparision comes from how people shun one idea because they find it distasteful while the other easily gets a free pass.

Except that it's not the same people, further reinforcing that it is a very false equivalency.

I can picture it now. My son will be named Tryhard and he'll grow up hearing stories about how I manipulated every aspect of his life to min/max his stats so he wouldn't die as often and how I named his sister Mistake and reloaded until I got a boy. Father of the century right here.

.....................On second thought, how about no? If I want to play a dating sim then I'll play Fire Emblem.

Hell no! this isn't Sims.

Maybe at like the end of the last game of this new saga e.g. I wouldn't have minded them showing that Shepherd had a kid at the end of ME3.

But thats it.

Although a large part of me thinks the OP was just trying to troll us all and doesn't really want this at all.

Perhaps they should remove romance and or sexy time from the game as well, since sex has no consequence its hard to believe any romantic build up is needed as everyone knows ryder can't get them pregnant or have babies. The moment Ryder walks into the room and opens his or her mouth it should just fade to black and play 70s porn music..bow chicka bow wow!

No. You got Morrigan pregnant, that's not the same as being a father. All the actual father stuff? Like being there when the child grows up etc? Being a family? That happened offscreen, sometime between Witch Hunt and DA:I. It wasn't part of the game, so don't pretend it was.

A relationship (gay or not) is not the same as raising kids. Having children comes with a massive amount of responsiblity, it requires a high investment of time and it would be really shitty behaviour to just have a kid because you want one, without taking your highly dangerous job into account.

I already wrote about this in an earlier post, read it please. I'm not going to repeat it again.

Asking for offspring is just another example of people not thinking things through.

Oh, and your attempt to rile people up with your gay relationship comparison fell flat. Don't try that crap again please.

Nah, no interested about kids. Optional, okay I guess.

The topic made me think DAI's wartable for some reason, the real time aspect of it. You decide to have a kid in MEA -> Mission timer: 9 months

It could work I mean Ryder already will be spending time with his/her Squadmates/Crewmembers so if and I stress if you Adopt or Take in a Child you could spend time with them as well.

Adopting a Slave/Orphan Child would suffice and to the folks not interested you wouldnt have to Adopt the child you could just send the child to someone else see its a choice and we all love those yay.

But yeah it would definitly be optional no doubt about it your right Char.

That could work. Though, I'd definitely prefer my protag having a kid that's his/her own, perhaps seeing them as a family after the game ending or the kid turning out to be the new protag in the next game... or something. I guess the only thing why I said that I'm not interested, is because having a biological kid in game would be probably hard to implement, especially when playing as a female protag. Kinda hard to run around in an armor with a big pregnancy belly.  :D

Thing is, people reject the idea of being parents altogether. And even if the whole family stuff wasn't off screen, I would have been fine with it.

Don't assume my intentions pal. I don't intend to rile up people, I'm just giving comparision to show the double standards here. The good old, "you can have every thing in the games. We are a accepting fandom, but oh, of course, we only accept things that fall in to our very intricate views of what's allowed and what's not". And last of all, don't tell me what to do. Your attempts to silence me is the only thing falling flat here.

Where exactly until retirement would we have the time to raise a child?

Yes, kids and a hot alien babysitter to butt slap when the kids aren't looking. And summer camp to send the kids away when mommy needs to have a serious talk with babysitter before saving the Andromeda galaxy.

Wtf is this?

That's implying the whole fanbase thinks and acts the same way. They don't. What one person here might express as an opinion does not speak for the entire community.

A relationship with a kid could actually make for an interesting source of choice in game. Every once in a while, the game could make you pick between two options:

a] spend time with your family
or
b] perform an optional mission that may increase your chance for final victory in the main plot line.

Of course, getting the best end result in your personal relationships/family will require to choose a] more than 50% of the time, and achieving the best main plot ending would require to choose b] more than 50% of the time...

I'm pretty sure anyone here asking for a kid in the game doesn't have any in RL.

So I could either spend time doing boring real life stuff with my virtual family or I could spend time being an awesome space explorer in this fictional videogame where neglecting a family I'm not even required to have in the first place has no real repercussions?

Gee, tough choice...
