Edit: Eh...

If that's the thread I am thinking of I'm still trying to wrap my head around what the hey hey I skimmed through. On the silver lining it did remind me to work on my Dean Winchester a little better. (Someone I'm rping with really wants to try Destiel should be a fun exorcise since I don't get to play the character that much) ((I'll shush with rp talk now
))
historical inaccuracy everywhere ![]()
Oh, there's been criticism. It's just that people don't want to get reported, so they are careful about what language they use.
So I did not imagine there were some comments that kinda danced around it...
I'm already dreading the "PC gone mad" comments that will fill the boards if they decide to make her a companion.
I hadn't seen any comments regarding her being trans either, which I attributed to the fact that said fact was already widely known and was introduced in a comic apart from the player, and with the least amount of fanfare possible for such a reveal (which I rather liked).
I've said so before, in multiple places, but I'm really hoping she will be a companion in DA4 and fill out the "good Tevinter mage" slot. However, I'm wondering if her being a mature woman, also a mage, and into fashion, will make her seem too similar to Vivienne in that regard, despite how different they are personality-wise. Even with Bioware's use of the roguish bi/gay trope, and other tropes, they generally seem to try to stay away from having characters that are too similar from game to game.
Also, they very well might want a Tevinter mage that is more representative of that nation; not necessarily "evil," but also not a radical like Dorian and Maevaris. I think an Alexius-type would be good (Dorian's Alexius, not what he became later on).
Pretty embarrassing moment in my bioethics class the other day. We were talking about surrogate motherhood, and while I was trying to explain the basic process, I ended up saying, "Well, with gestational surrogacy, you take the man's egg and the woman's sperm . . . " Can't really count on the whole class to miss that one.
Well, at least you know they'll remember that lecture!
I tend to think arguments about what counts as manly are always kind of funny.

Despite the fact that I like to flatter myself into thinking I strive for objectivity and fairness, I've got a very clear emotional bias about that particular topic, because I usually have the same slightly amused reaction when manliness is the point of contention, but I'm a little more sensitive about discussions of femininity.
I've never seen someone hold their own thread hostage, then purposefully sabotage it and hope it gets closed. I feel bad for VodeAn that their thread gets turned into a dumpster fire so often.
We really need some news, before everyone just decides it's enough BS and leaves.
Anyhow, flu sucks, and after 4 days in bed I finally feel better.
I just had to see what you guys were talking about. So, I looked at the last few pages of that thread.
...
Yeah, I don't need to look in there again.
Happened here 2 weeks ago. I'm not gonna lie, after 2 weeks it hasn't gotten any easier. The clocks are going forward this weekend.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
An hour less in bed, this sucks!
Too many people coming over for this Sunday when we weren't suppose to have an Easter gathering!
Current guest list include:
My uncle.
His young daughter.
My aunt.
Her boyfriend.
Her son.
His girlfriend.
My father.
His ex wife.
Her daughter.
That's too many people for me and getting all three of my grandmother's kids in one room almost never ends well. I'm fully expecting a fight.
Not knowing any of your family, I couldn't really say but ... recipe for disaster? That's when you say you're going out for some whipped cream for the dessert and just keep on goingToo many people coming over for this Sunday when we weren't suppose to have an Easter gathering!

A big recipe for disaster my family can be pretty petty. Heck for example my uncle hates my aunt so much that he still tries to get me to bash on my cousin cause I used to hate him when I was younger and he wants me to still hate her son.
I plan to make myself get ill then lock myself in my room. Not the best plan but it's all I got ![]()
And then, if it's a nice day, you make a rope out of bed-linens, climb out the window, and go for a nice long walk, and come home well after dinner is over heh.A big recipe for disaster my family can be pretty petty. I must admit I'm curious now, for both genders, since I have particular thoughts about the subject as well. You can PM me if you'd like (or not, whichever; all good). xD

I only peek into that thread occasionally, and usually when I'm very bored. I haven't recently, and I guess I won't. I think that saying it "gets turned into a dumpster fire so often" by various people stirring up trouble is the perfect description, really. And those people go in there for that express purpose, which is even more frustrating.
In general, I think the thread focuses too much on negativity, even from those on the pro side, which is why I hardly go there. I'd prefer to see more of "I want this," and not, "I want this, and am tired of that, which sucks and is bad."

Yep i think if we are going to Tevinter we need a companion who is supportive of the status quo.
Someone who isn't cartoonishly evil who will present the opposite case to the likes of Dorian, even if that makes some player's uncomfortable. Think Miranda presenting case for Cerberus, Vivienne the circles, Mordin the case for the Genophage.

It's no gay KISA tread, alright
Sandal's thread manages to be more about what people want, than what they don't want to see. Much more positive.
I think placing it in the Franchise board saved it from being constantly attacked like the BGC thread. Either of the threads would be closed within hours on the MEA board though :/

I would prefer that they NOT be "supportive of the status quo"; Alexius was not, but neither was he a radical that actively sought to enact change, like Dorian currently is. He talked a big game to his young, idealistic apprentice, but never did anything. And then his family was destroyed and he was consumed by that, so we can never know if he would have ever done anything.
The problem is that the status quo is harmful to many people, even other altus. Someone doesn't have to be cartoonishly evil, but only has to show that they will do whatever it takes to get ahead, and step on or over whomever is in their path along the way. It is ruthless and devious, but not an exaggeration of evil. It is quite common behavior. One of the reasons Dorian "didn't like that life" was because of people like that and the way The Game is played in Tevinter, permeating all aspects of life there. No one is their true self. It's actually somewhat amusing to consider that at least Orlais is honest about the whole thing with their wearing of masks.
The other end is the apathetic individual who is truly supportive of the status quo and their current position, and will not do anything to change that for risk of self damage, but neither are they the ambitious, ruthless, devious type. This is also common behavior.
I don't think that someone who is supportive of the status quo can really have a place in the PC's party unless there are some over-arching, world-saving circumstances that make those views pale in comparison to the greater threat. There is also a danger of such a person becoming an opponent of the PC, since the PC will likely be a challenge to their personal goals. Why should they want to help the PC? It really depends on what the plot of the next game is.
While such a character might be interesting, I'd prefer not to have another Vivienne type. I found her behavior tiresome. On the other hand, there could be someone who is able to hide it, in the way that Vivienne did not try to hide her own ambition, leading to a betrayal somewhere down the line, Bishop-style. That would be interesting. Unfortunately, it would also be expected and unsurprising from a player standpoint. "Oh, the altus mage with everything to lose was lying all along? What a surprise!" Considering the mere existence of Dorian and Maevaris, such a counter character seems likely if they were to go down that path.

To me that places a rather unwelcome prescriptive limit on who the PC can be. I don't see any reason why the PC should be forced to take up a reform agenda In Tevinter. The PC butting heads with companions should always be a possibility and has been the case in the past, with whatever the greater threat being faced being the catalyst for a disparate group being together.
I never really warmed to Vivienne but she's a very necessary counterpoint imo. There are others for who she chimes closer with their viewpoints regarding mages.
^ Well this is why I say that it depends on the plot of the game.
I don't want this to be the case, but if the next game entails the PC enacting radical change in Tevinter then that could certainly go against the goals or wishes of such an NPC. Who is to say we won't have a hand in abolishing slavery, or appointing a new Archon or Black Divine? In DAO we chose the rulers of two nations, and in DAI we chose the ruler of a nation AND the new Divine. Such a possibility is not without precedent.

In those examples there generally a range of options and they weren't the core arc of the game. So i'd be surprised and disappointed if the game entailed singular forced flavour of reform agenda(abolishing slavery). In an RPG making the PC have to stop a war(qunari) or stop world destruction(solas) seems very different to forcing the PC to take a particular political stance.
