Yeah, what people consider "good" romances aren't the same for everyone.
I mean, there are people who hate Isabela and call her a one note character. In comparison, I've always felt that she has a really solid character arc throughout DA2 and one of the deepest and meaningful romances in the game. For someone who likes casual flings, it's very subtle that she's terrified when she realises that she's starting to fall for Hawke. As well as how she often has signs that she regrets not taking it further, should Hawke romance someone else after their one-night-stand.
Some people hate the Josie romance because they think she's boring and it's so light and fluffy. I've always found it to be extremely charming and Josie to a very fun character, even if she's uncomplicated. Besides, it's a tad hypocritical to say that it being a tad fluffy is dull, when aside from the addiction subplot, no-one seems to hates the similar light and fluffy flow of the Cullen romance?
I appreciate pretty much all the romances we've been allowed to pursue in the games, even if it's taken me longer to warm to some than others, such as Zev and Bull.
The only one I will admit to actively disliking is Jacob's in ME2 because the romance seen was rather corny... and let's not even get into how they handled him cheating on a romanced FemShep in ME3.
And the romance with Steve didn't work for me and made a little uncomfortable, not because it was same-sex (I was glad they finally included them in ME3), but because it felt like Shepard was taking advantage of someone who was still grieving. Especially when you remember that the Collectors only attacked Horizon because Shepard's former squadmate was there (information the Illusive Man leaked to them), which kind of makes Shepard somewhat indirectly responsible for the death of his husband.
