Until some real content comes out, I'm probably gonna post only in this group and the KISA thread. Between the constant moaning about the galaxy change and the endings in the MEA board, and the endless flow of 'SWJs destroy everything, all games should be like Witcher, because female and gay main characters are PC!,' I don't see a reason to engage in any kind of conversation with those people. It seeps out all of the enjoyment I get from BW games, and this should not be the reason I visit here.

Hey, only 60 days left and E3 is upon us, and we will finally get some more stuff to talk about.

I just don't care that much about sexuality or romance in videogames. Representation is good, and i do like the romances, but we are spending 90% of our time talking about 10% of the game. Which is fine i guess, but there is more that makes the game for me than those aspects. Might come off as a little bitchy, but that is how i feel.

Part of the reason for this is because there isn't any other meaningful content to talk about. Solas and the Trespasser ending? How many times can those things be rehashed? DAI had this or that failing regarding the plot and presentation? Even Bioware has acknowledged such things as keeping Corypheus in the background.

 

The romances, and the LIs that embody them, are based solely on personal preference and opinion, rather than current game facts that have to be acknowledged or talked around. Almost everyone has an opinion on the romance content in these games, and many don't feel any qualms about voicing such opinions, even if they are controversial, negative, or grossly offensive. In other words, it's an "easy" topic.

 

I honestly can't understand why so many people can't seem to acknowledge that one's personal preference for a LI, or their views of sexuality in these games, doesn't apply to everyone, even those other players who are of the same orientation, whatever that may be.

 

Regarding Dorian specifically, I gave up tying to "defend" him long ago. People with such views aren't going to be swayed by my posting, so it only amounts to shouting in the wind. To me, the unfortunate thing is that I feel like the lack of those defensive posts enables the view that that negativity is the predominant viewpoint. I don't believe that it is. I adore the character so very much, but I'm not going to subject myself to that garbage just to defend a fictional person. I've had enough.

^ I love that scene in the movie! The little girls braiding her hair are adorable, and I was reminded of myself at that age, braiding my dolls' hair; they look at it like it's a dream come true XD.

 

That said, I always think it looks so heavy. At the end when it's cut off it seems like it would take some adjustment to moving without it.

Maybe its some of the other threads I read today or maybe just some daily stress tossed in or maybe I'm just far less patient than I thought I was but either way I feel like I need a drink right now, probably a mega ton of soda. 

 

I'm just hoping that I just had an off day and this thing was just the straw that broke the camels back but at the same time I find it so ridiculous that one stupid story did that to me. 

 

The topic of drag queens got brought up around my father, before the man lets me get a word out he goes into this 'funny' story how he almost got in a fight with one in the store for laughing at how stupid 'it' looked (using his words there).

 

I feel petty and stupid that, that is what broke my back today but I'm hoping it's just because I've had some other sh*t going on and just having that propped on his other hard to handle traits (like his racism and drinking) just drained me today. 

 

Though like I said it is possible I'm just more thin skinned than I realized but I'm very much hoping it was just last straw for today kind of thing.

I'm not thick skinned, but parents saying crappy things like that is something I've become numb to. Stuff like 'I hope he doesn't marry an Asian woman, I don't want grandkids with ugly slanted eyes,' or 'black people are so aggressive,' or 'Jews control the banks' are thrown around fairly frequently. Arguing has no effect, so I just mute it.

 

But I don't think you being upset is the wrong reaction. We should be upset, when we hear people close to us start to dehumanise other people. The fact that we're so used to it most of the time is just a sad indication of how frequently it happens.

I actually like him, even though we disagree about 80% of the time. So I'm actually glad we got it worked out. Maybe I shouldn't have called him a douche....

I know when the like system was put into place, there was a max of 10. When the heads of the forum found out that folks wanted more, I think they increased it to 20. I know that the thread we've been discussing is going to eat all of mine up once I get it back. Too many excellent posts to count! Humorously enough, the posts are mostly by folks in this group.

I rarely ever give out likes. Makes the ones I do give out feel extra special.

 

Also makes me feel super guilty when someone keeps liking my posts, but I didn't think to like theirs, and by the time I realize, it's too late.

Sort of a vent, but not really? It rather bums me out that they have certain scenes fully animated but choose not to show them. I just discovered that in the post-sex scene with Dorian that the Inquisitor takes his hand. I can understand why they didn't show the whole scene (there is terrible clipping and other awkwardness), but the hand thing is just so sweet and nice. I really wish it was in the final cut.

Got a minor one, kind of wrote myself into a bit of a corner with a character that I initially made as just a side thing rather than their own person so now I have to figure out what to do with them. I notice I tend to leave family members of the characters I use pretty under developed, the only one semi developed in this case is dead and the living one has nearly nothing too them. I did this to myself^^; Still have no idea what to do with them though.

What I have currently is a thought to of been dead family member actually being around. What I had currently with this character's situation was that they were taken as a baby when the rest of their family was killed and what is planned currently is to bring this character into play though what to do with him after we're done with this idea is beyond me. 

Sorry I'll explain more the situation exactly. 

This is a little brother character of my main character who was a middle child, they had thought their family to of been dead since one night they came home with a car speeding away from the house and finding some bodies inside (the character was a young teen at the time), freaked out and fled. Trying to work with the scenario of this little brother character having been taken instead and the older sibling able to of been track them down after a very long time, only not sure what to do with them and it being a collaborated effort isn't helping much since I"m not writing the people that took him so I'm unsure in what way he was raised.

Also I should clarify that this isn't for anything professional or even remotely which is probably pretty obvious since its armature, it's mostly me experimenting with a new fandom and trying to write something that would fit into it and at the time I felt family death would fit pretty well.

Assuming he was indeed raised by his captors and not sold off or something, this means he would have had to psychologically adapt to living with the people who killed his parents. The question is how. One possibility is a kind of Stockholm Syndrome scenario where he completely identifies with his captors, even possibly repressing any memories of his previous family. So when the older brother finds him, you have a scenario in which a character has to come to grips with what his identity really is. There are lots of directions you can take that.

That's a little of my problem, we been progressing through lots of ideas much faster than I would of liked so things haven't developed as much as I wanted but this is also on my sometimes wanting to change it after the fact (which I try not to do aside from rare extreme cases)

 

Might be easier if I had mentioned what fandom too. My bad^^; It's for Supernatural which is kind of new for me to write a character in that setting. 

 

Oh crud I knew I left something out! This character was still a baby when he was taken so I"m unsure if he'd recognize kin if they made himself known to him but given what the person I've written with has told me what the captors are like (which isn't much) Some kind of Stockholm Syndrome does seem most likely.  Though given I went kind of a cheap route with my character (cause I want to be a special snowflake like everyone else ) I might be able to pull off the being able to recognize the older sibling anyway and maybe not in such a silly manner as I feared.

I have one. I hope that if you import a world state in DA4, where the HoF is alive, BW will ask you to recreate them, them immediately proceed to cut them into little pieces with an axe and feed them to those crazy Hinterlands bears. Maybe then the HoF threads will stop. (Honestly, another one?)
