Sorry to hear that. I despise it when hate and bigotry take over a thread. I'm used to the usual liberal/anti-liberal debates, but you rarely see that level of just...bad. I hope the mods can give the Celene thread a badly needed cleanup. I'm surprised that crap didn't end up in "racism" thread.

Speaking of the "BW is racist for no krogan PC" thread, that's another headshaker for me. I'm not a huge supporter of multi-race selection for the ME series, but I have no issue with folks requesting it. What irks me about that particular thread is that the OP was deliberately being incendiary with that particular word choice. Naturally, some posters are taking it at face value. Or at least doing so for their own amusement.

Sorry for the double post, but reading the BSN today was like getting spiked with a strong hit of acid. So far, I've heard folks using psuedoscience from the turn of the last century to justify some straight up racism. BioWare is racist against Krogans/aliens and prejudiced against those that want to play them. And now, my marriage is a tool for my husband to instill fear and control me. Oh and that all my marriage means is that I get half of his stuff. FFS.

There are days that I look at things like that and wonder a bit if the internet was truly such a great idea. <sigh>

What irritates me however, is the fact that little these people can bring up these topics which is a violation of forum rules, and yet myself and another BSNer got warning points for using the word "balls".

I don't come down on the mods for some of the stuff that's happened. I've grumbled, but I'm more annoyed at their bosses, the ones that dictate the forum rules. It seems like lately, the MO has been "keeping up appearances" rather than actually keeping the forums civilized. I've read some of the most digusting things over the last couple of months. Some of the most narrow-minded, hateful, willfully ignorant and arrogant things I've seen on this forum since the format change. Outright racism, homophobia, transphobia, stunning ignorance about both men and women in general.

At least I haven't seen anyone recommend using biotics to "cure" homosexuality yet. Unlike a poster in the DA forums last year that honestly advocated blood magic to kill and/or "cure" the gay companions. Of course, this is the same creep that wanted a "pure elf woman to break and make completely submissve. I want to break her fingers every time she disgrees with me, until she becomes mine." For a romance option, no less. <shudder>

It's getting really out of hand again. I've seen several folks get busted for not putting in enough asterisks in curse words. There are several I can type in right now that aren't censored, but doing a bit of self censoring is "circumventing the profanity filter." Or typing in a word that is fairly safe, but getting grief from the mods. I know that the mods are doing their best, but this reactive method of moderation isn't working well. It's part of the reason why I bailed for much of last fall and winter. I couldn't take the double standards and what appears to be a high turnover rate of moderators as well as a lack of a community manager on the DA forums.

The one saving grace for me is that E3/E Play is less than a month away. At least then more posters will go back to complaining about the current game rather than stewing to such insane levels. As far as the DA forums go, it looks like they are even getting worse than the ME forums. Never thought I'd say that.

Uh... I mean, we had the whole Dorian quest line and everything. So the person heard that and thought, "What a great idea!!"?? I just... I don't understand. I'm seriously confused by this. If we hadn't had the Dorian quest I would just be appalled, but in light of that my brain just doesn't know what to do with it.

I've said it before but I'm just fed up with every single discussion that has more than 10 pages to it. It's always about some real life, controversial political issue.

Then there are those of us who "shitpost" I.e joke around or post gifs and we cop it from the mods. But offensive, carefully worded pseudointellectual garbage is apparently acceptable.

If not for the people I've bonded with, I wouldn't come here at all. Hell, I do so more out of habit than anything else.

Sadly, you haven't seen anybody suggest biotics to "cure the gay," not because nobody had the idea, but because everyone suggested "science" instead. The "homosexuality is a disease that will be fixed by 2180" threads were a common sight on the ME boards. Since I've already had to explain, why there will be LGBT people on the Ark, even if there's none on board when they were leaving (or why they would want to accept them on board in the first place), I expect these threads to be popular soon.

Count me in as another goody-goody. I have to wonder what the hell is going on. I've been careful with my wording on the general forums as well. Meanwhile, I just watched someone use a slang word that applies to cats and to the female body. Unless the mods are asleep at 6pm (they have the same time zone as me,) there is no reason why that comment was left up there intact. Still there and has been for about 45 minutes. I've noticed that when folks are busted for language, it's damned near immediate.

It goes back into my theory that the forum heads are far more concerned about appearances than actually montioring the forum properly. Hate speech shouldn't be allowed, right? As long as the language is clean, it seems to be good enough. That's ridiculous and I know it's starting to drive people away from the site. They either need to shut down the BSN or do an overhaul of policies.
