Count me in as another goody-goody. I have to wonder what the hell is going on. I've been careful with my wording on the general forums as well. Meanwhile, I just watched someone use a slang word that applies to cats and to the female body. Unless the mods are asleep at 6pm (they have the same time zone as me,) there is no reason why that comment was left up there intact. Still there and has been for about 45 minutes. I've noticed that when folks are busted for language, it's damned near immediate.
It goes back into my theory that the forum heads are far more concerned about appearances than actually montioring the forum properly. Hate speech shouldn't be allowed, right? As long as the language is clean, it seems to be good enough. That's ridiculous and I know it's starting to drive people away from the site. They either need to shut down the BSN or do an overhaul of policies.
I don't know about that. I got busted Wednesday for using hell in a post I had made on Sunday.... ![]()

One of my favourite people just joined in the Mae thread, so I'm sensing another trans thread is headed for lockdown town.
You still got us Dave! Although after the racism, marriage, trans, and Celene threads, I can't blame anyone for being tired of BSN's BS.
Aye, hopefully the thread will turn back around because it's getting too bothersome for people to want to engage anymore. It bothers me to see good threads locked or derailed because of obnoxious spam from a small minority.

At the very most I might use a bowlderised or mild bit of slang as a substitute. But I prefer never to use anything that's would be considered uncouth or would balk at if it were directed towards myself.
I don't mind people being rude on the forums, as long as people remember to keep their language in check as there might be younger forum goers (even if most kids tend to swear like sailors).
People being rude I can handle, but I cannot abide people being intolerant or hateful towards others or particular groups of individuals. I firmly believe the Internet should be a place that brings people together, not try to bring them down or tear them apart.
Plus y'know, it's often right bang out of order.

My hips are still sore from my first day of work yesterday, today is suppose to be horribly busy and I have no idea if I'll have a trainer still. I really hope so since this is going to be my first actual busy day on the job.

This user has done it before. He takes breaks from the forum and recently showed up again, when everybody started getting points. >.>
It's really petty. I feel like I'm in grade school again. Dealing with a teacher's pet that dobs you in for anything and everything.

I think the most frustating part for me about this whole thing is that words like hell, damn and even the B-word are perfectly fine for network prime time shows. All current IPs by BioWare-Canada are M rated, but we can't use language shown on network TV (which any kid can easily see) at 6pm-9pm at night. It's also enforced at a whim too and isn't consistent either.
<shakes head> I don't get what the forum heads are trying to do.

I suspect I know exactly who you are talking about. That sounds like that poster's MO, if I'm thinking of the same person. The poster I'm thinking of is very anti-nudity/adult language and aren't the slightest polite about it. Most of the folks that don't care for strong language or pixleated boobs are decent enough, but this person loathes bad language in particular. Yet they have all of the current BW games registered last time I checked before they hit my ignore list.Going on the subject of language and why we are getting warning points for petty things. I believe a certain user is going nuts with the report button, because people seem to be getting doled out warning points over words that really aren't that bad or "swear words".

Bingo! That's the one.
He really needs to get a life. He has this sick vendetta against people who play TW3 so now he's craftily trolling (within forum rules) the Witcher thread in feedback. He states he never played the game but has some opinion on it, always bringing up how he won't play it because of all the bad bad mature content.
I wish he would just [censored] off.

That poster is obsessed with that thread, those players and that game. It's really bizarre and creepy. I don't care for the TW series, but I'm also happy that there is diversity and choice in RPGs again. Most of the posters that are regulars in that thread are people that I usually get along with, despite expressing my opinion about TW.Bingo! That's the one.

I suspect that posters like the one we've mentioned have little control over their personal lives so they are making up for it online. The person doesn't seem like a bad guy, but they've got more issues than National Geographic.

I love the Witcher and I also love DA. I'm probably more into the Witcher right now considering DAI is finished and DA4 won't be out for a while. And the new expansion for W3 will be out very soon. I'm not one of those "CDPR vs BW" people. I get why people compare the two and I may think TW3 is the better game but I just don't see the point in engaging in circle jerk arguments about which one is better when everybody is different and has their own opinions, besides this is the BW forum where naturally most people will prefer DAI..
You're far too nice, Nat

I avoid painting targets too. This is a video game forum, and it's asinine to go out of the way to target posters. There are a few particular posters right now that I do not like, but I try to largely let it slide.
I may seem too nice, but that's because I think that there is a difference between someone online and someone offline. I'm going to give them the tiniest benefit of the doubt. It's just the way I roll.

That poster might want to not to watch UK television either then, it's pretty much based around various sexual themes and strong language, doesn't matter what the genre is... pretty much shows up in anything from comedy to drama?
Violence on the other hand tends to bring out that kind of tizzy in certain people. Maker knows how irritating it is to hear another case of Ofcom receiving a litany of complaints, because a character on a show simply raised their hand to strike someone before the 9pm Watershed.
People are odd ducklings, aren't they? ![]()

If any of you with more experience with these inequitable moderation practices wants to make a post in the BioWare Forum/BSN Help subforum, I'd undersign it. I'd write one myself but I don't have any personal examples on which to draw, but there have been several posts in this thread over the months that we've had this group.
I think that's really the only way that the issue might get some attention.

Funny I was thinking about that myself. I was going to ask for a list of words that TPTB consider "inappropriate" or "profanity".

Oh Donk, your name.
That's what I was thinking as well. My next question would be "So, what is exactly is and isn't hate speech? Is it just slurs that is the issue?"

It isn't what you think!
Roy and I joked earlier that we've become grumpy old Muppet. Totally unrelated to.. What you're thinking
On the current topic: at the moment it's only a thought. Frankly I'm getting a bit apathetic towards how this place is run. I also feel whatever I have to say doesn't hold much weight because I have a lot of warning points

LOL My terrier's nickname is Scruffy Muppet.
I don't mind trying to give this feedback idea a shot. I don't really expect any results or acknowledgement, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

You have some interesting nicknames for your immediate family, Nat. Sasquatch, scruffy Muppet etc
The puppy Wilbur has the most normal nickname. It's simply "Little Dude." I have an interesting family in general. Wouldn't have them any other way.
Oh, this is the vent thread. Okay, minor vent time.
Someone on the forums recently claimed that marriages were on the decline due to society outgrowing the concept or something like that. Plenty of couples live like they are married only without the ceremony. The real reason that marriage appears to be on the decline is because it's bloody expensive. The average cost of a wedding in the US is over $26,000 (not a typo) and it's over 20,000 pounds in the UK. No wonder folks are either doing small ceremonies or skipping the whole thing entirely.

This kind of seems at odds with the games themselves. DA, ME, and JE all had mature/17+ ratings, two of the series also because of strong language. You could paste the ESRB blurb for DAI here and get a warning for swearing.
But agreed with the rest.
Edit:
'd by Nat, should have caught up with the thread first.

I can't say that I've never reported someone. I have, but it's something I do very rarely. If they annoy me that badly, then I just usually throw them on ignore and leave it alone. Sometimes though, I hit a quiet limit on my patience. I certainly don't do it to punish posters for saying something I didn't like if they aren't breaking the rules.
Twice for me so far, once for derogatory racism, once for pretty clear hate speech. In both cases, I think it was justified. At that point you're past sorting it out, and I prefer to have it gone, so some other people don't feel like that behaviour is acceptable and join in.
