I'd like to be able to use language I use pretty much all other places. This is only forum with filter that I visit really.  Even worse when they filter scientific words like ****** sapiens, like wtf.

Well in that case, that word is separated from the rest of the term as two words, and it is a slur, so it's understandable. I've run unto some issues myself -- in that Mae thread I wanted to write "h*mo/hetero/bisexual," but it got filtered out and I had to write out the whole thing. I thought about editing around it, as I did here, but talk in this thread about moderation practices has made me leery of such things. I used to give mods the benefit of the doubt and think that they might actually read a post before taking action, but not anymore.

It's probably been fixed these days, but way back when on the WoW forums you couldn't use the word "grape" because it had "rape" in it. At least the BSN word list isn't that dumb.

It's a slur in English? Huh.

Well yea, I don't know if I should write homosapiens together or would moderation staff see it as editing around it as well.

I have real life vent I need to get out of my system. My oldest and dearest friend of nearly 20 years has more or less turned into white trash. He's disintegrating due to severe depression. I'll call him Zack to ease up on the pronouns and spoiler tags to save space.

You're a good friend to not give up on him, I've been depressed before and know what it's like to have friends give up on you. I have a friend that is depressed and I know how much it hurts knowing they are suffering and not being able to help. Really it's part of the reason I've been struggling lately.

I wish your friend the best and really hope he get's past it and want to let you know that having a friend that cares makes a difference.

If I could offer more than my sympathy, I would.
As I can't, I offer this like in the hope that you won't delete your account again.

You're too nice to deserve half the crap you get and yet you remain one of the nicest people on this site despite everything.
I can't help but admire that.

Anyway, just my 2 cents. I hope everything works out for you.

Thank you Duelist, it means a lot to me to read what you said. <3

But you don't need to use strong language to discuss any of those games. The games are creations, the forums are a space to discuss those creations, not a reflection of them. We don't solve 90% of problems here through violence either unfortunately.

Also the ESRB rates Sonic Chronicles as E for everyone  :P

It's not necessary, but hell? Will we soon get points for heck and darn? Better example is the twitter threads, where I've seen devs circumvent the filter. I mean, can we quote text from the games with curse words? Can the devs? DA deals with a lot of heavy stuff: rape, racism, war, betrayal, slavery, sexual kinks. There's a lot of stuff that is less kid friendly than cussing. We leave hateful rants on the board, but scrub hell?

From what I've heard it's better everyone forgets about that game  ;)

I mean, it can be. Pretty tame one. I was surprised about it, when I wrote about ME1 and 2 and the "adventures in nohomo," saw the stars, and couldn't figure out for a second what I wrote.

The bigger offenders are the 3 or 6 letter f words that they block, but not some related word forms of these, like with the suffixes -y and -try.

That sounds like pretty bad code writing. Pretty amusing though, imagining people fighting with the filter to talk about eating grapes :D

I don't mean to say that it's justified (or the implementation is) just that I don't think it's related to the content of their games.

Personally I don't mind not having to deal with a lot of the people here being able to swear. But it restricts people from saying normal things in funny ways and it's pretty easy to get around with a decent vocabulary.

Fair enough.

But regardless of your position on cussing, the point stands - the moderators on this forum need to get their priorities straight.

So it's suffixes and past tenses. Welp, at least it's no grape.

Agreed. We just need to look at posters like  who know who who uses profanity, makes personal attacks, and posts straight up hate speech and yet has yet to be banned.

Fucker works too. As does the old Samuel L Jackson favourite.

Dope. Has it healed yet or are you still up to that part where you spend most of the day slapping that motherfucker?

(Gotta love that censor.)

Not that I disagree, Hanako, but please remove the name, so mods won't come swooping in (I'm not ready for a venting 3.0)

I edited, though if the mods did that that that really proves the point.

Sadly they already did, and we were not happy about it. nightscrawl's idea about starting a thread about inadequate moderation in the BSN help board really seems like a good idea.

Is that a common time frame for tattoos, or is yours large and/or involved? I considered getting one in my younger days -- a palm tree before leaving Miami, but now it's not something I'm really into for myself anymore.

I know you were talking to Dani, but I wanted to mention that's about how long it takes for a tattoo to heal. I have a portrait-style tattoo of the Colorado state bird (the bunting lark) that takes up my entire right thigh. It took a little over a week to heal up, just a little longer than the smaller tats on my arms.

@Dani What kind of tat did you get, if you don't mind me asking?

Here is something of note. In the previous venting thread there were a number of users mentioned as people who like to start crap. I put a couple of them on ignore to head off any future issues**. I have just now observed that the forum keeps track of name changes (likely tied to user ID, rather than name), so the person is still on ignore even though they have recently changed their name. So that's nice.

** I don't know why I bother, half the time I view the post anyway. *Rolleyes at self.*

...I swear, a particular poster talks more about TW3 than the DA games, despite the claims that he will never play it. I'll never play it for a few reasons, but I'm happy that TW3 was successful. I'm glad that there is more options for RPGs, and that should be celebrated. I wouldn't have the conceit to talk down to people for liking the game. In fact, the folks that (gasp) enjoy both makes me smile. The more good RPGs that are successful, the less chance we go through another RPG drought like we did around the turn of the milienum.

Shoot, if that poster is offended by TW3, can you imagine his reaction to the later installments of the Saint's Row series? For those that haven't played it, there is an...um...adult novelity replication of a male member that's bright purple and a bat-like weapon. The main character swears like a sailor and most of the cast is pretty caustic, and there is a ton of over-the-top violence.

She told me it would be about 10 to 14 days to be healed. I think it's just a general time that she uses.

My tattoo is a remembrance of my older sister.

I am going to attach a couple of pictures, one of the guys I work with started calling me cheetah lady.
The first picture is what she did the first session (she took the picture) the second is the finished product. (the picture isn't very good, I tried to take it myself, the flash kind of made it look a little off and trying to take a picture of my right arm using my left was difficult but it shows the text)
