Thank you all, she really wanted to do the tattoo and she shaved the price. She was trying to open her own shop and the city really put her through hell to get it opened. She had to hire a lawyer but was finally able to open. It put a financial strain on her and a friend of hers started a fund to help support her, after reading what she went through it made me want to donate. I gave her a large tip to help finish her place, so it cost more than she charged but it made me feel good to help just a little bit. She did all the work herself to get the place set up for her business but she ran out of money after the legal issues and the waiting room is still unfinished. I think it was all worth it as her place is open, I got to have the tattoo finished there. She's a good person and didn't deserve the treatment she received, gorgeous too.

Working on holidays isn't really my favorite thing to do, but I suppose it's mostly to do with how weary I am of customer service in general.

Gorgeous tattoo, Dani.  Glad you are sticking around.  The place is worse off without you.

My personal vent:  My worklife has been super chaotic.  My boss' boss passed away suddenly.  His new replacement is making a ton of immediate changes.  One of my direct reports had to be laid off -- two of my staff ended up quitting.  Then, after the dust settled from that, we just went through a huge office restructure as well.  I'm now in the fourth office in 2 1/2 years.

And, at the same time, I had two papers due for revisions for publication (got the last one done yesterday) and I'm now 2 months behind on my dissertation work.  **** my life.

Oh, and throughout all of this, I've also been looking for a new apartment because my landlady keeps raising our rent.  So I'm also moving in three weeks.

But at least it's all done.  Still have no patience for the nonsense going on this (and most other) message boards.  This "anti-SJW" and "anti-feminist" bullshit is some of the most obnoxious **** I've seen in a long time.

Here is something of note. In the previous venting thread there were a number of users mentioned as people who like to start crap. I put a couple of them on ignore to head off any future issues**. I have just now observed that the forum keeps track of name changes (likely tied to user ID, rather than name), so the person is still on ignore even though they have recently changed their name. So that's nice.

** I don't know why I bother, half the time I view the post anyway. *Rolleyes at self.*

It's a good thing. One of the posters in question has recently changed their name again.

...And they are once again, starting to pester me with comments. I'm ignoring them, mostly. I don't want another nonsense PM.

@ Dani, wow they're gorgeous; the faces are so expressive!

@ Dave, damn, having to move on top of all of that other crap? I feel for ya, much hugs. On the bright side (I try), perhaps you'll find some item you thought lost, and moving is always a great excuse to get rid of stuff.

That looks beautiful Dani. Also looks like it hurts like hell but I'm a wimp with needles

Oh that reminds me, probably not the place to ask since question and not a vent, but anyone have any suggestions for a font that would look nice as a tattoo?  I'm trying to save up and get over my fear of needles to get one myself, the color I have to work with isn't very pretty (brown) but it's my little brother's favorite color so that's what color it's going to be. The kind I had in mind is nerdy to a pathetic level even for me so some actual font is needed in it's place^^;

Thank you, this was my first tattoo but I understand that the pain is dependent on the area being tattooed. The shoulder wasn't very painful for me, I was pleasantly surprised. The soreness for a couple of days after was worse than actually having it done but it was a pretty big tattoo.

You could google tattoo's with text and see if you find something you like, there's a lot to see out there. I did that when I was trying to decide on the text but I ended up relying on the tattoo artist to pick what she thought would work best.

Thank you, Dave and Nightscrawl :)

Unless the brown is paired with something else, I'm not sure how "brown" it's going to be because of natural variations in skin tone. This is why most tattoos are bright colors that are easily distinguishable. Of course, it all depends on what the tattoo is, the context of the image, and also what your skin tone is. For example, if it's just text -- your bro's name and birthday, or something -- it might be difficult to tell brown from a black outline. If there is no outline, it might just look like faded black (again, due to skin tone). However, if you got something that was clearly supposed to be camouflage, I don't think anyone would have a hard time seeing it as brown because camo is a known thing.

This is not meant to discourage you, but just to suggest that you might want to consider alternatives.

For fonts, you could just scout out your tattoo joint in advance and see what they have on offer. Alternatively, you could find a font online that you like, write it out yourself, and bring that in as the sample.

Thanks for the help. Probably right on the brown since it is just text. Just starting out with getting my little brother's name, might add more later I'm not sure yet. Even with a super pasty skin tone like mine it still probably wont show up well.

Speaking from personal experience, getting inked on your elbow hurts especially the shading.

Even with a super pasty skin tone like mine it still probably wont show up well.

If anything, colours will show up well because you're white.

All this talk of tattoos reminds me that I need to get tattooed again soon.
Alas, not enough money. Or ideas.

It just goes back into my theory that hate speech is okay on the forums long as anyone doesn't use slurs. Disgusting.

Hey Ares! :)

Here's a rant for me: Enough with people saying I have to feel guilty because I'm white. I've run into this on the forums and elsewhere. It's a little sickening, to be honest.

I know what my ancestors have done. My great-great-grandfather was in the KKK. I have ancestors that fought for the South in the US Civil War. I'm also descended from the head of the East India Trading Company, which was pretty notorious for doing things like violating human rights. On the other side of the family, I'm also a descendant of the founder of the Dutch East India Company as well. I'm not proud of that history and I wouldn't condone it at all.

I can't change any of that, as much I would like to. All I can do is what I can within my own lifetime. Encouraging discussion, keeping an open mind and speaking up against racism and other forms of ignorance. To be a good person and to try to help my fellow man. I'm glad that Western culutre has overall greatly improved in relations to race. Still needs work, but it's come a long way.

However, I will not for a second feel guilty for the way I was born. Not for my skin tone and not for my sexuality. So folks that are trying to pull that crap (look at what your ancestors did type stuff) can kiss my lily white keister.

I would just lol if someone threw that white guilt line at me, ain't my history yo, my people have been oppressed enough...by them white Devils, the English. Not that I'm bitter about it or anything.

I'm joking guise, or am I?

I am.

Still find that Civil War era of American history really interesting tho. Native American history too, digested plenty of documentaries and books about both.
