Nice gif use, btw. Man, I haven't seen that movie in yeeeears.
I just saw that thread. The mods have strange priorities.
Speaking of which, I was poking around the second page of posts and saw the locked vent thread. Is this group actually private, or can non-members view and report posts? Do the mods prowl around looking for things to moderate in private groups?
Evidence suggests that it was actually reported by a certain poster with a proclivity for pseudo intellectual gobbledygook and frequent name changes, who messaged several people in the thread--about the thread--before it was locked.

FFS WHY must every thread where sexuality is even hinted at end up getting into how gay Dorian's storyline is?
I'm really torn on whether to be irritated that it seems to be the primary thing that so many people focus on, or pleased that he managed to tick so many of them off.
There is SO much other stuff to focus on in these games. As much as I like the game, DAI did have some serious weaknesses in the (primary) narrative, as well as gameplay problems. Can't we focus on those??
Well, I think one that has been bothering me lately is how other gamers and game developers developer have seemingly taken a negative stance on violent video games.

What makes this worse is that they say all these things in light of a tragic shooting that had less to do with violent video games and more of hatred of a sexual orientation.
I lost a lot of respect for Blow when he took the opportunity to talk about "violence glorification" in video games after the shooting. It was a very awkward time for E3 to come on after the tragedy, but to use that tragedy to promote your narrative that had nothing to do with it is disgusting (that goes the same all the other outlets who say the same thing.)
^ Yeah I just love when people say a thing on social media and get all bent out of shape when people respond negatively. David Gaider does the same crap (or used to more often) and then gets defensive about it. Yeah, well maybe don't say stuff on the internet. Think about your audience. It's crappy to tell someone to self-censor, but it's a function of being an adult. It's also a part of reality of being a semi-public figure like a video game developer on a franchise played by millions of people.
Suck it up or don't type. And maybe take a step back and try to figure out WHY your words might have been misconstrued.
If you want to criticize "glorification of violence" in video games fine, but to use the tragedy to promote a narrative that's irrelevant to it is shameful.
E3 was in a difficult position given the recent shooting and considering that I think was handled with as much grace as could be expected.
That said, there has been a discussion about the casual depiction of violence common in games and glorified at E3 going back several years now. I think it's an important one, even if there isn't a simple answer, and a lot of it is hyperbole.
The shooting was a horrific example of what real violence is like, so how we depict violence for entertainment is related. Beyond that, it shocked a lot of people, caused them to do some soul searching and try and effect positive change, for some people that involved writing about a culture they care about.
Generalizing games to being mass murder fantasies is pretty stupid though.
It started from 'women cannot be ground troops' (...)
Drink.
(...) 'none of them have a jaw like Cassandra.'
And again.
Either tonight or tomorrow the person I carpool with to work is going to be leaving early so I'm either going to have to miss a few hours of work or barrow someone's car to get there and back myself. The problem with missing work is I'm still making up time for the car wreck that caused me to be out in two days and a fee for my license that keeps coming out of my pay check. My problem with borrowing their car is that I have never driven on even remotely busy roads before let alone a highway while it's dark out and the car they offered is falling apart. What's bothering me the most about this is that they do not have to take off early they just want to and say that they have to and are trying to make me feel like a jackass for daring to be a nervous driver who is terrified to drive on a highway they barely know while it's dark out. Maybe it's a petty or selfish rant and I am the one in the wrong here this time, it just feels like though that they go out of their way sometimes to do this to people cause of either laziness or they think it's funny.
Sooner I move out the better, crazy cheap rent or not.
Not to alarm anyone, but this place can be viewed by outside people, they just have to log out, but I don't think we're getting much traffic from that.
Going back to this - looks like this group can actually be viewed by anyone, any time. I was curious, so I tested it.
I have an alternate account (never used for posting) just to save my previous user name (TommyServo) because I'm pretty attached to it. On it, I'm able to view this thread and the whole group discussion forum by going there through USAC's post history. Which is visible of course, because I don't have my profile set to private. So yeah, all you need to do is click on a group post from someone's posting history.
Is that a limitation of the (not so) new forum? Are private things just not actually private by design?
You know you can change your user name, right?

Yep. I really just wanted to keep my old name off the market.
I do wish we had more information, but I'm with you guys in not going to Mass Effect forums.
There surely is lack of information which is partially reason for all troll threads. I was bit disappointed with E3 cause I finally though we could get more info than we did. But at least Bioware said they will give more companion information this year so looking forward to that. Should give discussions more content as well.
