I hate summer colds, they are miserable, as a matter of fact I caught one in your awesome country. What did I think was going to happen kissing a damn stone that lines of people were kissing.

Ah yes, the Blarney Stone (I'm guessing) visited it myself when I was a youngin, school tours, we were more excited about the gift shop tho.

The context of the thread wasn't terrible, that racist who hijacked it was. I should have been more clear, my bad.

I assumed that was what you meant.

Yup, the Blarney Stone got me, really bad cold but I figured I had to do it. :) One of my favorite things was we went to an old pub, had a wonderful time got plastered trying to keep up with an Australian couple, I never had a chance. It wasn't so good in the morning though.

When a favorite thread turns into an argument about how the Dalish elves are treated in DA and Andrastian humans are given special treatment by the writers. And some can't accept they don't see it that way.

Oh my god, the last like... six pages of the Solas thread. Wtf.

No True Scotsman fallacy. "You're not really an elf fan unless you believe this very specific thing."

I don't even remember how it all started. It's given me a headache, and I'm getting tired of being told what I should think just because I happen to like the elves and Solas' character.

...

The bane of this forum, outside of the other toxicity, is arm chair game developing.

Yep. And all that is before we even consider the technical limitations. Someone could request a dog companion, which might sound simple (other games had a dog!), but if the engine doesn't support, for example, skeletons or animations for quadrupeds, then it's super hard to implement such a thing. Modern engines support a lot of functions, but none cover all use cases (BW had to create the inventory and dialogue system from scratch for Frostbite). How do you explain that a simple sounding function could, with their set up, cost thousands and many months of work?

Before I even look I'm pretty sure who the main culprits are. :P  I'm more shocked at that pg count, over 6,000 pgs and growing, goddamn!  Dem Solas fans are dedicated alright.

I thought you had probably added an extra zero by mistake, but nope, no, you didn't. Wow.

I don't go to that corner of the forum much. Should I?

I have to ask, because BSN is making me incapable of reading people. In the Solas thread you asked someone, how they are going to rally people to force BW to write the story they want about the elves, and the answer was "I'm working on it." ...That was sarcasm, right? Or should I be bracing myself for a riot of very specific elf fans after DA4?

Nope, that was legitmate. And ridiculous. And when I responded they replied in Elvish.

"A Riot of Very Specific Fans" might be a good subtitle for this place.

Welp, I was pretty active over there when I was waiting for DAI to come out/when I was playing it. Kinda lost interest tho when I stopped playing it so to answer your question I dunno, personally felt the place was more fun over there when the game was fresh to me.

People on the BSN can get really weird about elves, and the weirdness expresses itself in so many strange and terrible ways.

Maker, yes. Also sounds like a collective noun. Like a parliament of owls, a lounge of lizards, and a riot of BSN posters

Urgh, I just need to stop arguing with people. But it's like people can't separate storytelling and actual injustice..? Idk, I'm just tired.

I'm just taking advantage of your remark about a dog (because, hey, dogs and cats are both pets, right?) to point out, to you specifically, that someone made a DA2 mod to give Anders a pet cat. It is the cutest thing ever omfg. This really should have been in the actual game since there is that one "putting out milk" scene. ^_^

I really can't understand this attitude from certain fans. It's a fictional race. I don't know... perhaps people are putting their real-world racial frustrations onto this fictional one, and because they can't do anything about real-world systemic racism they want to obliterate its fictional counterpart.

But I think that rather misses the point of the inclusion of these types of groups in the first place: that they are an allegory for these real-world issues and are likely not going away anytime soon. Also, I think the setting would be rather boring if they did, or if the dwarf caste system were suddenly eliminated. What is the driving conflict after that point? Just the abstract evil types of main villains, or something like the Blight? Doesn't that get old after a while?

Also, to expect that Solas will fix everything for the elves is incredibly naive. If anything, should his plan fail, or even just not succeed in the way he wants it to (the most likely scenario, since he can't predict jack squat), the resentment by 3/4 of the other races toward elves will be ENORMOUS and just lead to more hardships for them.

Lol... how can that be anything other than gibberish? It's not like DA elvish is developed beyond certain phrases and words. It's not like Sindarin or Klingon, or something.

"A Riot of Very Specific Fans" might be a good subtitle for this place.

And a good name for an emo rock band.

It's the phrase Solas used when responding to the Nightmare demon's taunts. I don't know what that says about me.

But is there a translation available? People are just repeating it because they assume he's telling Nightmare to go f itself?

<3  <3  that's the quality content I'm looking for. And it's a tabby! When I first played 2, I really expected a cat (or several) to appear at some point in the mansion.

I found people using both this, and the 'shut up' version. I have no idea, which one they used in that reply. Either way, people are taking the story waaay too seriously.
