Rant #1: Why do so many people have such horrendous spelling/grammar etc? Mine isn't great, but I usually double-check it when unsure. I had an order through for vehicle cleaning due to flee's. Flee's?! Fleas! What bothers me is that I have to send that onto the contractor, so they probably think I wrote it.

 

Rant #2: It's hot (at least for here), so lots of men are walking around shirtless. I have to manage with a bra and top but they can be shirtless? Pfft.

 

Rant #3: They're introducing a uniform for my office. The others requested it because they're "sick of wearing the same clothes every day". I'm hoping it's not white shirt uniform. I get mistaken for a teenager often enough!

Sad case here in Ireland today too. This morning a 28 year old man attacked his estranged partner, broke her arm, she had to be hospitalised. Then he took their 3 year old son and drove himself and the poor child into an artic truck coming the opposite direction. You can guess the outcome.

Also been a shooting in England today too at a swimming pool.

Well...to be fair, there is a fair amount of overlap between BDSM, power, and sexual assault. Concepts like control, objectification, and force that are often associated with sexual assault are also commonly explored themes in BDSM. The key distinction is that BDSM applies those things as fantasies acted out in a safe environment, rather than as the truly harmful realities they entail. Two people engaged in BDSM might treat each other in ways that seem pretty f&#^ed up to the outside observer, but are really just roleplaying characters in a mutual fantasy.

The problem when you're talking about those themes in the context of video games and other forms of fiction is that the distinction between reality and fantasy gets a little blurred and complicated. In a sense, everything that takes place in a video game can be considered a fantasy acted out in a safe environment. But in another sense, we're expected to treat the characters in the game as real people with the capacity to have real harm done to them. So when you bring up things like domination and control as they apply to sexual interaction between video characters, it's hard to tell whether you're viewing it as a fantasy for you, a reality for the characters, or a fantasy for the characters.

Having somehow managed to stumble my way into the BDSM community, despite not being a member of it, due to my roommates and all their friends being practitioners, I can say with full honesty that what they view as an exciting and sometimes even therapeutic approach to sex can come off as....less so to outside observers.

 

On the plus side though I got all kids of stories from drama within the community, and helped them put together outfits for cons so that was kinda fun.
