I've been reading that you should wait until post game for Jaws or Decent and, obviously, Trespasser is post game, but I'm wondering if it's really needed to wait on the 1st two.  Since I've never done them (only just returned after well over a year off from DA:I but have them through both my Season Pass and the GOTY edition I got for xMas).

I've also read that what you get from those two DLCs is so OP that it takes the fun out of the main game if you do them to early.

The reason I'm asking is that I've pretty much been cakewalking through the game as of late (just finishing Emerald Graves but have Hissing Wastes and Emprise du Lion to go) and am at level 22 at this point.

We're not even using the best of gear (I'm still on the superior enchanter's armor at 156 and a 69 lightning high-enchanter's staff).

Dragon's seem to be about the only real challenge at this point and they only really take patience.

Thought I might give the two a shot after I finish the Lion and the Wastes before I finish the game and proceed to Trespasser.

Any thoughts all?  What has your experience been?

BTW:  Dalish female elf sorcerer/rift mage inquisitor in a romance with Solas (okay, not yet, have to finish the temple, but everybody except Cullen is off the table at this point - I needed a backup).

On another note:  Where do I find fade-touched obsidian!  It's driving me nuts how rare it is.  I get every other type of fade-touched junk that I have no use for and nothing fade-touched is ever sold, even in the Black Emporium (which, btw is a waste of time IMO).

To get Fade Touched Obsidian you just have to 'mine' the ore from obsidian nodes and get lucky.

There are 3 of them in Redcliffe in a chest though, and if you want to be cheesy an infinite amount!

However, if you are already having a really easy time adding guard per hit to your gear isn't going to make things more challenging.

If you feel like the DLC fits in your playthrough prior to the endgame then go for it, I think they have a certain level range though. I haven't actually tried that out because all my characters at the time had completed the main quest.

Agree on the guard thing.  Mostly I use it for Cole and Bull and have been seeking some for quite a while now (they're two of my favorite companions) to improve their survivability, but no luck.  Oh well.

When I do DLCs... depends pn pt. Personally, I don't see much difference between doing those two DLCs pre or post main game. Some say it's better doing post main game, because it fills that 2 years gap between main game and Trespasser. Or just because Inquisitor simply has more time to bother with others' business now, that Corypheus is dead. For me it really doesn't matter. The only thing to consider is lvl. The Descent enemies scales to your lvl, so no problem. Jaws on the other hand has enemies lvl20+ (with some lvl30 as well). Better to be prepared.

As for loot... It's true loot in those DLCs is one of the best you can find, but it's locked behind pretty high level (iirc, most of purple items require at least lvl20+). To tell the truth, when you actually can equip it, it might be useless.

In one playthrough, I did Jaws of Hakkon before finishing the main game--It did provide a little more challenge since my knight-enchanter was pretty suped up by the time I got it. She also ended up leveling up super fast after I devoted more attention there, so the challenge was kind of short-lived. I haven't done much in Descent yet so I can't really speak to that. It was released at kind of an awkward time for me and I just ended up going right into Trespasser with that Inquisitor.

With my current Inquisitor, though, I am planning on saving Jaws and Descent for post-main game finale. My incentive there is more story-related than gameplay; I feel like it'll just fill in the timeline a little better in my head.

Since your game is already a cakewalk, are you sure you even want the FT obsidian?

The Black Emporium can be quite useful depending on what you've found. Besides the top-tier stuff, there are schematics there you likely won't have, and it's a good place to buy a few more mats you don't have a big supply of. For instance, if your only T3 metal so far is the handful of Stormheart from Crestwood. Obviously, the more completionist you are, the less useful the shop will be.

Playing both Jaws of Hakkon and Descent before finishing the main story has a slight dialogue change. For example, the Inquisitor would say, "I'm already fighting one would be god, I can make time for another." Combat wise, it does get a bit challenging with scaled enemies especially in the last two levels of Descent.

Personally, I like playing Jaws of Hakkon and Descent post main story, because not only do they fill the two years leading up to Trespasser, it shows the Inquisition's continuous growth and influence.

As for fade touched obsidian, there's one behind a locked cabin in Redcliffe.
