In the spirit of positivity (see, I can do that!), I decided to start this thread.

We all have our criticisms of the game.  I've contributed more than my share of them.

But going forward, and assuming DA4 gets greenlit, what in DAI do you want to see stay?

For example, I like how the same outfit can look different on different characters, but remain thematically the same.  Grey Warden armor will look different on Cassandra or Blackwall, but will still remain Warden armor.  A character's individual look remains even though we can put them in stylistically different armors.

What else do people think DAI got right, and would like to continue doing in future games?

The Warden armor looks different on Cassandra and Blackwall because they are different genders. It looks the same as theirs on the Inquisitor of their gender too.

I'm not sure what exactly they got right. I guess I liked the movement of combat. I still want tactics back, and the amount of skills was not good enough, but the speed of movement and the animations were done better than both of the other games. I would love it if they introduced "light" and "heavy" attacks so you could engage in some combos and they would alter spell implementations.

I liked that we went many places, but each area needs to either be smaller or have more stuff. Emerald Graves and Hissing Wastes for example were incredibly boring.

I liked that there were keeps, but am saddened that the original game design did not stand the test of time.

Weapon and armor creation was a step up, but it needs more variation. 3 designs for the inquisitor is not enough and for some of the companions the alterations were ridiculous as well. The only difference in Blackwall's models were wether or not he had a flap behind him or the tunic got replaced by link mail. Solas had two outfits I think that varied quite a bit, as did Dorian but Vivienne's only changed wether or not there was a breast window.

And I managed to make most of it sound negative even then, oh well. Overall I think Inquisition did good on many things but just needed a nudge more in detail or quantity.

I liked that companions remark on our specialization.

I liked the racial and dialogue perk options.

I liked the variety in companion quests and how several of them had branching paths.

I liked the idea of Skyhold being a base with steadily building assets to it and people beyond companions to speak with.

I really liked the Spirit of Justinia/Faith and the ambiguity she presented, allowing us to come to our own conclusions instead of revealing everything as "truth."

I liked specific sexuality romances.

I liked Champions of the Just and the mental Fade segment.

I enjoyed most of the maps visually, though several were not enjoyable to navigate (EP, Storm Coast, Oasis).

I enjoyed the depth and maturity explored in the nature of faith and religion, specifically in regards to Cassandra and Leliana.

I like that unlike DA2, most of the cameos felt logical and added to the story (Dagna, Morrigan, Cassandra and Leliana, the Warden contact). Varric was a bit superfluous and Cullen was kind of random, but I did enjoy Cullen.

I liked that a few of the war table missions did impact the world (the noble marriage, Sutherland's crew).

I liked Cole's mini quest with the Skyhold residents, although it often bugged out on me and I could never finish it. But when I was able to finish it I enjoyed it.

I enjoyed getting combat bonuses to creatures from the research table.

- Multiple player races. This cannot be said often enough. I originally bought DAO because you could play an elf in that game. If it had been human only I would not be a Dragon Age fan today.

- Enjoyable combat. I really liked DAI's combat system. I would have liked more specializations available and of course more active abilities, but over all I really liked the combat and was never bored.

- Epic story and great characters. Inquisition is probably my favorite game, because I enjoyed the story and the characters so much.

- Crafting, Wartable and Judgments. All of these are nice little features that I would like to see in the next game. Especially the Wartable. I love those missions that have many stages and various results.

- Exploration. I love exploration and seeing all these new places with my companions was awesome experience. Also I love how big game DAI is. This is definitely the right direction for Bioware to go. The longer the game is and the more the content it has the better! I think it was also nicely balanced, although maybe the main story could have been longer.

- The Inquisitor. She is one of my favorite protagonists in any BW game. My Inquisitor is an dalish elf and I was very happy with her backround and how most of it was left for the player to decide. Also I liked the race specific dialogue options. The system wasn't perfect, however - for example the temple of Mythal sequence was very problematic. All elves know who Mythal is! That was little annoying, but I guess mistakes happen. I hope next time it works better.

This is all I have time to write now. But I must say one more time that I love Dragon Age: Inquisition. Thank you Bioware for making this amazing game.

- I liked the characterization.  Always a strong aspect of Bioware storytelling, but here I felt it reached a particularly high mark.

- I liked how certain elements were integrated.  Defeat the Templar camp... no templars in Hinterlands.  Same with the mages.   I felt this was organic progression - but I felt like there wasn't enough of it for me.

- I liked the idea behind the Wartable.  I didn't mind any of that stuff not being playable.  Here's a huge thing about the Wartable.  When people ask for non-voiced protagonists because they can use their imagination to fill in the blanks?  That's the SAME THING as when people argue that the wartable quests are more interesting.  They're not "actually" more interesting... you just used your imagination to do what others have been screaming for.

-  I particularly liked finding instances in the world that needed... a bridge, or caps for poisonous vents... and changing the world even if it's with just a click.  Better than than finding 5 boxes of nails, 100 boards... etc. etc.

- I liked the idea behind Skyhold.  My recommendation going forward?  Smaller... more alive.  If DA:4 is Tevinter... make it the household of an Altus.  Fill it with family and slaves.  Allow you to alter the family dynamic (marriage, children).

The perks for special dialogue options on different topics (magic, nobility, etc). I liked that a lot, and would like to see that kept and incorporated more.

Crafting. Maybe with a little less grinding for materials involved... but being able to create and customize our armor and weapons was fun and mostly well executed.... I usually dislike crafting systems in RPGs and try to avoid them when I can. But I didn't hate it in DAI.

The romances and companion quests were great, as usual. But I liked how they tried to make the romances feel more woven into the story, and used dialogue to shift your perception of scenes.

Party Banter. The banter timing wasn't great...it seemed like I missed a lot of it, or it just didn't fire. But the actual banter itself was great, plus being able to particpate in some of it. I could see them improving on this easily.

Racial and class reactivity. Considering races were added late, and despite some of the obvious mistakes in some places....They did a good job considering. I could see them doing even better if the next game has races and is developed with that in mind from the start.

Facial expressions. I disliked the fact that there were fewer cinematic scenes in DAI overall, but they did a good job animating character expressions and conveying emotion.

The Keep and Black Emporium DLC are good features that should be kept (if possible).

There's a lot of other stuff I'm not thinking of the moment, but these came to mind.

YES!

Loved the dialogue perks.  And they went beyond that... because in an RP sense you could say:  "Why do I have knowledge of the criminal underworld?"

Let me actually build a fleshed out character... have more than just combat be relevant.  More of this!

Next game... when I pick:  "Knowledge of nobility"  Let me get access to unique RP opportunities in game.  if I chose roleplay abilities over combat abilities... I should be rewarded with more rolepay damnit!

And having the Underworld Knowledge Perk unlocks a couple of special RP options if you romance Josephine.

Character interactions... But Bioware is the best here so no surprise.

Companion content... Probably the best companion based content Bioware has put out. Especially with Trespasser.

The grace it handled spirituality and religion with... Refreshing to get more than "boo religion!" That seems to affect a lot of fantasy.

Lore integration into design... The world is so well designed to begin with, but how the lore and history is built into the designs is amazing. I think only Souls art design competes with creating a world with historical weight just by visuals alone.

Customisation... Love all the little details from Skyhold to weapons/clothes that can be tweaked and the character creation and origins is great for more open role playing.

Music... Great soundtrack, addictive tavern songs <_<

Jusgements... Nice little addition. Especially some of the more comedic instances.

DLC... Three great DLCs that advanced the story, added to the lore, and gave more character moments. Haven't seen three strong DLC releases for one game since New Vegas probably.

Previous character/event integration... From Leliana to Morrigan to Dagna and to dealing with end states of prior games, DA: I has probably dealt with its complex and deep history better than any other game.

The Nug King... All hail the majestic lord.

I liked how the subplots of the game were both interesting in their own right and an important part of the central plot. For many BioWare games, you have a lot of smaller arcs where it feels like an afterthought the degree to which they move the plot along. ME1 and DAO especially come to mind here: sure you are going after the elves ostensibly to use the Warden contracts to recruit them, but really virtually nothing that happens there is connected to the Wardens or the Blight. I can forgive Origins because it was an effective way to introduce an entirely new world and lore through storytelling rather than Codex, but on the whole I'd rather ME3 and DAI's method of having the plot be a bit complex with several different aspects that need considering. I'm thinking of the Wardens and Wicked Hearts, of course, but I also loved how early you sealed the Breach. Typically you wouldn't even approach the Breach again until the end of the game and the story and characters of the sub-arcs would carry the player forward.

The real-time combat is leaps and bounds better than DAO and DA2. The very concept of being able to have timed parries of enemy blows is something you wouldn't even imagine in a combat system such as Origins had. As someone who's first playthrough in each game was 2-handed warrior, Inquisition is the only game where it feels really fun. If they can further refine responsiveness and hit boxes (I should be able to hit knocked down enemies with daggers, gdi) then I could see the Dragon Age series being enjoyable purely from an action RPG perspective.

For many companion quests, there's no clear right answer, and Inquisition in general is much better at presenting pros and cons to each decision. Wicked Hearts in particular is a good example: you can get all three figures to work together, but it isn't clear at all that this is actually what's best for the Inquisition or Orlais. Compare this to The Golden Third Option in something like Origins' Connor choice, where there's no reason at all not to go get the mages and come back.

Virtually every possible build in Inquisition is viable. The gap between the best specialization and the worst isn't as substantial as it was in previous games. Yeah, KE was overpowered and Necromancer could use some work, but compared to Arcane Warrior versus Shapeshifter they are damn near neck and neck.

Environments are beautiful and despite being so large feel hand-crafted for the player's experience. There were many times when I'd run through a place and think to myself that someone even knew the exact camera angle I'd be using and leverage it for something impressive, like revealing a statue on the horizon.

Judgments were a great way to role-play how your character felt about a particular story. In general, Inquisition succeeds at presenting ample opportunity for you to turn your character into someone resembling a person, with doubts, opinions, and feelings. Dialogues aren't just there for C&C but to make sure your character feels well-rounded and well-expressed.

The War Table is an efficient, cheap way to inject side storylines and decisions into the game without needing to spend thousands of dollars on each quest in the AAA space.

The main quest was overall very good and entertaining, for the most part I felt an incredible drive throughout all the sub quests. With Trespasser included, the main story is top-notch.

The game engine. I know a lot of DAO fans have complained on the lack of strategy, but I saw an engine with good balance between action and strategic thinking. Can't say the lack of healing made it better than the previous games, but it worked.

Companions! They keep getting better and better.

Lots of things, but especially this handsome bastard.

Spoiler

Other things:
- multiple playable races.
- they finally struck gold with the elf faces (not easy to mistake for human as in DAO, more realistic than DA2. Still unique and clearly elven).
- the way companion armor was done. Everybody had their own distinct style, but there was variety.
- qunari ladies actually look like they could break a man.
- AVVAAAAAAAAAR. Morvan! Sky Watcher! JoH!
- Skyhold was amazing (I'm comparing it to our sad little "estate" in DA2...)
- interactive banter.
- nudity where and when it's appropriate.
- our companions were wonderful, but that's true of every game in my humble opinion.
- a love interest who wasn't a human or elf, for once.
- LOSING AN ARM. I was thrilled. It's about damn time all this constant adventuring and fighting took its toll on our protagonist. I can headcanon my Warden losing an eye or Hawke having a bad knee, but this is so much better.
- Sera's journal entries.
- NPCs hooking up or crushing on each other if the PC has eyes for someone else. Makes them feel like they're not just there for our convenience.
- coarser language. I talk like a drunk redneck pirate, so I appreciate it when not every single person talks like their grandma's watching (). At the same time, you have diplomatic characters who are unfailingly polite.
- The Descent. Because dwarves.
- romances without obligatory sex.
- more interactive environments. Climbing ladders, jumping off cliffs...
- a protagonist who's allowed to be awkward and unsure at times.

And many other things, but these are a few off the top of my head.

- Character creation options - including the creation tool itself as well as the choice of race

- Crafting - While I would prefer moar options and I did not like all armor designs, I really enjoyed mixing and matching with different parts and different colours to give each of my Inquisitors their own 'unique' armor

- Companions - Both in the amount of content as well as how they were done, really enjoyed the unique cutscenes per character. The romances were great too.

- JUMPING!!!! - Can't live without jumping anymore, no jumping feels soooooo restrictive. I want to assassin's creed all over the map, goshdarnit!

Judgements!  To be honest I got the impression from previews that they would be like the ones from Awakening where you would decide political and strategic matters and have them impact your game (kinda) rather than just deciding the fate of secondary villains. But even so, they were generally engaging, a welcome opportunity to do some genuine rolepaying, and I really hope Bioware develop of this mechanic further.

Companions!  Okay, some were hardly plot-integral, but who cares? They were as solid and interesting a cast of characters as Bioware have written in quite a while, with a couple of them up with the greats.
