Alright, I downloaded the Zaleed DLC from the Cerberus Network tonight, loaded up my game, went and recruited him, then headed off to do his mission. I got (I think) a little over halfway through, past where I decide if I'm gonna save people or go after the boss. I chose to go after the boss, made it through a few rooms. Then, when I got to the room where you have to fight a bunch of guys coming from side rooms and then a big shielded armored mech (right after an autosave) I got a "Disc is unreadable" error and was kicked back to the dashboard. I reloaded the autosave, it happened again. It's happened 4 or 5 times, I cannot get past this room even if I kill everything as soon as I open a door to leave the room it happens. I loaded up the save from before I picked up Zaleed, went through the Convict requrutment mission with no errors, so I'm heavily leaning toward the problem being with the DLC mission and not my disc or console. Has anyone else had this happen? Do I need to have the second disc inserted to do this mission or what?

Try installing the game to your hard drive and see if it still gives you the error.

I'd try deleting/redownloading the DLC and failing that I'd try doing a HDD install of both discs of ME2 to se if that helps. I saved the people, so I didn't go the same way you did; I made it through the mission with no crashes to the dashboard.

Well, I already installed the first disc, guess I'll try installing the second and then deleting and re-downloading the DLC. See if either of those help. After I finished saving the convict I saved, reloaded my save in the middle of the mission, cleared the room of enemies, saved again, and it has kicked me to the dashboard 3 more times as soon as I approach a door out of the room. 
Out of curiosity, if you save the folks, do you get his loyalty?

Well, installing the second disc didn't help, but deleting and re-installing the DLC did the trick. Unbelievably that was the last room of the mission. 
Now I have to go save the convict again. lol. Thanks for the suggessions.
