yeah seen that vid before it's really is quite funny speed up and all that not quite so much fun trying to get through it though as it is a tough fight and as I said I consider that whole sectoin the most difficult in the game.

The problem is that the toughness was due to poor design, especially when it's a solo fight and your character is a Mage.

I always found the Rock Wraith to be the toughest fight in the game. Arishok was second, though. Might be b/c I was not only a mage, but a primal mage, like the OP. So rock wraith was basically laughing as it shrugged my efforts off. lol

Helped Anders make his potion and sneak into the Chantry. Now he's gone Johnny Cash and changed into a back robe while trying to give parting gifts to everyone (the scene with Varric and his mother's pillow, ha!). I also finished Isabella's quest. Went against her wishes and killed the slaver. Now she's finally confessed her love. Good for her. She's grown. Wylds helped some anti-Meredith nobles with their anti-Templar shenanigans. Felt good. Also feels good arguing with Meredith as an apostate. Glad she finally mentioned that the only reason I hadn't been arrested was because I was protecting Kirkwall. Nice filling of that story gap. Tracked down the first of the escapee circle mages, the blood Mage elf. My favorite line from Wylds Hawke "I just want to go ONE week without running into a demented Mage." He's pro-Mage to the bone, but a seed of doubt is growing in my mind. It feels like 1/10 of the mages I meet goes or is already crazy. My Warden was a dwarf who did not give a rip about the Mage/Templar conflict. He just wanted to end the blight. It's hard to ignore in this game. I think that dynamic will affect the personality of my Human Noble from the Free Marches in Inquisition. Perhaps I'll throw in some back story of him being in Kirkwall for a time. Great game, thought the repetitive maps have gotten stale. That's perhaps my only gripe of the game, that and enemies constantly jumping down behind my back. I'm barreling toward the finish! Hoping to finish this week and start Inquisition! (Hard to believe this whole adventure started after I inadvertently bought part three of a trilogy).

In Inquisition you'll be from Ostwick, or part of the Ostwick Circle if you're a mage, and if you're not part of the backstory is your family was going to give you to the Chantry, whether you wished it or not.

It is a good video, but I mainly posted it because he mentioned the whole "hiding and shooting behind pillars" while fighting the Arishok. That and it's funny.

Actually I wasn't talking about the fight with th eArishok itself prese I was refferimng to the level sa awhole andhow you  have to pretty much kill every Qunari you see. I'm not saying it's a bad level I just think it's a tough one as I frequently die in it or get my ass kicked quite frequently anyway. I can beat it I was just saying difficulty wise that whole section is tough I enjoy it though. Kind of reminds me of the final level fighrting through the darkspawn ind Denerim trying to get to Fort Drakon in DAO to finally fight the Archdemon

Same here. I struggled mightily to beat the Rock Wraith with my primal mage.

For those with any vested interest in the character I roll for Inquisition, here's the update with 1 week to go.

Race: I've settled on a male human. I like the idea of the Inquistor coming from the Free Marches, likely with many family members and friends directly involved in the origins of the Mage/Templar War. I've done the racial outside route as my Commoner Dwarf and I've done the lovable soundrel with my Hawke. I think political juggernaut type character will be interesting.

Class: Leaning rogue, but the door is still cracked for two-handed Reaver. I enjoyed mage in DA2, but want to try something different in Inquisition. I want to romance Cassandra, so I'll avoid Sword and Shield as that seems to be her role and I'll need her in the party. (Should not have watched Reaver videos...looks cool)

Wild night in Kirkwall - they call that a Monday (needs to be a bumper sticker). Wylds trudged back up Sundermount with Merril so she could ask the demon about her mirror. She seemed intent on doing it with or without him. He can't say no to Merril. It's her kicked puppy persona. Of course her Keeper is now possessed by the demon...nothing goes smoothly in Kirkwall (another bumper sticker). We killed the Keeper then had to kill Merril's clan. The Daelish are a prickly bunch. Poor Merril, pretty unsatisfying ending for her side plot. Wylds tracked down the three escaped mages, killing two and letting Emile the goofy drunk one go free. Wylds lied to Meredith, then Fenris immediately told her I was lying. That broody elf is not a team Hawke player! Then came killing the old guard captain who Aveline replaced...that surprisingly ticked her off. Oh well, at least she's loyal. Now Carver had been kidnapped. Not a Tuesday in Kirkwall without a kidnapping and a Mage/Templat conspiracy! Seems like everything is heading for the climax.

Man. Sorry I missed this. The first time I played DA:O I completely skipped Sten and Leliana. I didn't know Lothering would be destroyed so early. inorite?

Seems like you're enjoying 2. A lot of people don't.  :)

Wow. Just beat DA2. Wow. Can't imagine finishing that game without being able to jump right in to Inquisition (waiting for my Xbox One to update). Where the heck did Hawke go! He went Mage all the way, supporting our pal Anders even after he BLEW UP THE CHANTRY!!! Sheesh. What a mess. Glad to see Cullen has a level head on his shoulders. I thought for a moment Aveline and Fenris were going to turn on me, that would have been tough with no tanks. Can't believe the First Enchanter went bat crazy. Gross boss by the way, pulling in all the dead mages. Egh. Do any mages not go insane aside from Hawke? It was nice to get Anders back. He rained fire and Hawke rained lightening. No one stood a chance. I hope Hawke and Isabella are on a nice sailboat somewhere. Bitter sweet moment at the tale end seeing Leliana. Wonder how she's holding up after falling for my Warden then seeing him die? On to Inquisition! Rolling Human Rogue. Won't decide DW or Archer until I have to create my character.

Congrats on completing part 2! :) Don't forget to set up your world state in the Keep so you can import it into Inquisition.

I think the answer is no but, did you play Golems of Amgarrak? The thing Orsino turns into was first featured as the boss in that dlc. Yeah, it was gross there too, and also a lot harder to kill. :P

There was actually supposed to be an expansion to DA2 called Exalted March which would have picked up the story, but they dropped it after DA2's lackluster reception to focus on DAI.

Have not played golems. That guy and the brood mothers are chills inducing.

Rolled a Human Archer. Once I created him and put the sweet 'stache on, it was obvious he was an archer. Just has the look, and the accent. Now to look up a few archer builds.

Archery is great fun in DAI! (I haven't actually made one myself yet, but I've controlled the archer companion Sera in combat a lot because it's so enjoyable.)

Let us know how your trip to the Conclave goes ...

Mages who don't live in Kirkwall aren't so bad.   ;)   Kirkwall is, I don't know, the center of some sort of confluence of very bad magical energy.  It's probably from all the slaves killed there in blood magic rituals back in Tevinter's day.  It's also near the Sundermount, and while I don't know what all went down there, it feels like it's seen big magical events in the past as well.  In Kirkwall, it's like living over the Hellmouth.  It's possible that the Hawke family mages ARE the only ones in Kirkwall that manage to keep their sanity, yes.  I felt that way playing DAII, as well.

Onward to Inquisition!  Keep up the posts.  It's darn good fun reading them.

Word of advice: Don't get stuck or bogged down in the Hinterlands. (Yeah, it's kind of a cliche, but it does help if you don't.) I would do a few things there though. These aren't really spoilers.

1. Wrap up the local mage/templar conflict to make the roads safe for refugees.

2. Grab a horse and talk to the horsemaster (er vice versa) and maybe talk to a couple of people on the farm about those quests.

Get thee back to Haven!

Made it all the way to Haven...then realized my world state hadn't uploaded from the Keep...and I didn't just play two whole games to have the world not reflect those decisions! When the quartermaster mentioned Anora as Queen I knew I couldn't handle it.So I restarted. Better to waste a bit of time than to play the whole game with the world not making sense. Plus, I got to turn down the "lip shine" on my Inquisitor. I'm all for Chapstick, but the poor guy looked silly. Never fear, my world state is now correct. I tried DW this time...and loved it. I'm going with that for now. Here's my expanded backstory:

Wallace is the youngest son to a Noble Family of the Free Marches. He was a bit of a rebel since birth, the classic Black Sheep/Prodigal Son character. While his family was sucked up to the Chantry, Wallace was chasing women, booze, and coin up and down the coast. It was during this time that he became involved with some less than upstanding company, perhaps dealing with a bit of smuggling along the way. This was the period of his life that he learned his rougish skills. During one of his partying/business trips his group ran into a rival operation. Things went south and a fight broke out, during which one of the apostate mages he'd grown fond of revealed her demon possession, killing everyone before Wallace was able to stealth in and plant his twin fangs in her now demon skull. The world changed for him at that moment. He returned home, repentant, eyes open to the dangers of chaos and magic. He became a devout Andrastian, committed to the Chantry (and still to his own success, desiring to be more than the youngest son). His family expected his decision on whether he'd join the Templars after he returned from the Conclave...

Should be fun! Thanks for the advice, I've heard it's easy to lose your soul in the Hinterlands! How many levels would you try to attain there?

To tell the truth it's better to look at power required to continue the story than on level.

I'd say the Conclave didn't quite have the outcome the Divine was hoping for. Thedas has conditioned me to assume the worst possible outcome is always likely. Now Wallace's hand is glowing green and there's a giant rip in the sky. Excellent! He trudged up the mountain after Cassandra, picking up Varric (glad he's back) and Solace along the way. The Temple of Sacred Ashes could use something touching up...a bit crispy these days. I loved Varric's response to seeing the red lyrium. Basically "Don't touch it! That stuff's a crazy-maker!" The flashback at the rift was interesting. Wallace just saunters in "What's going on here?" in that suave accent of his. Never mind the giant smoke monster holding the Divine. Just another day. We made short work of the demon and Wallace woke up in Haven (which looks much better than it did in Origins. That may be due to the lack of crazy human sacrificing dragon cultists.). He's on board with being the Herald of Andraste. Cool title. Pretty dramatic cut scene with declaring the Inquisition reborn, followed by..."Well no one wants to talk to us." Great. Time to do some reputation building in the Hinterlands. I stumbled upon and destroyed the renegade Templar base and made my way to the Horsemaster. Took care of the crazy wolves and planted a watch tower before getting absolutely demolished by a rift. The sheer volume of quests available and area to explore is mind boggling (in a good way). Onward!

Totally can see how this could happen. I'm going to set up the other two watchtowers, find the renegade mages, then successfully close another rift (the Inquisitor can't run out of the Hinterlands with his tail between his legs!) then head back to Haven. Sound reasonable? Beautiful game. I keep finding myself standing still and just looking around. Absolutely incredible.

That depends which rift you're speaking about. If it's one of lvl12 rifts, I would leave that for later. Better safe than sorry.

Oh! If you haven't been to Hafter's Woods yet, I would leave this area for later. Trust me.

I'm digging the story they've set up here. TONS of conflict already going on, now with an Armageddon-type hole in the sky. There's a huge amount of potential to take sides and grab Thedas by the horns. Best start of the three in my opinion (saying nothing negative of the first two beginnings which I thought were great as well).

Went back to check on that Rift. It was level 12, HA! Makes me feel better about getting creamed. Wallace took care of the wolves and set up some watch towers. Apparently he had time for horse racing and smoked the three courses. No need to rush this saving the world thing. On his way to find the mages he helped an elven Mage clear out some ruins and activate an ancient artifact to help shore up the Veil. Seemed worthwhile! After that Wallace mopped up a bandit camp and heard something interesting. Through a gap in the wall was a beautiful valley with a FREAKING DRAGON! He wisely left it alone. The mages now taken care of, it's back to Haven!
