Been a while since I played DA:O. Recently started up a new game (needed something with role-playing an adolescent couldn't manage after playing the Witcher 3) and I have to say, DA:O held up well. Not graphically of course (the game looked generic even when it was released), but the overall play, the story; everything is nearly as good as I remember it. This time around, however, I loaded up a dozen or so mods and they improved the game tenfold.

Your favorite?

Mine has to be Nightmare Plus. Made the game more challenging.

Zevran ASAP makes a big difference if your Warden is going to be good friends with him.  I also appreciate the mods that restore lost dialogue.

My all time favourite might just be the one that changes the Dark Ritual scene for those romancing Alistair.  Instead of watching him have creepy sex with Morrigan you get a much more touching scene where your Warden waits for him and they hug afterwards.

Much more appropriate for the romance.

Restores lost dialogue? Ah, wish I had come across that. I used Dialogue Tweaks and Leliana Fixes, but I think those are the only two in my game that impacted dialogue.

There's the Morrigan Restoration patch and then ZDF Dialogue fix.  Also I think Improved Atmosphere adds dialogue too but you have to delete a couple of files to make it work with ZDF.  It's all explained in the read me.

I used the Improved Atmosphere but was unaware of it impacting dialogue. Also use Theta HD and DA Redesigned. Those did a good job of improving DA:O's rather lackluster appearance. Will definitely keep the ones you mentioned in mind for the next play-through. Really curious about Morrigan Restoration. Interesting as she was, I couldn't help but think she should have been more.

All good choices, Improved Atmosphere also triggers more ambient dialogue which helps alot with Sten since he has alot to say about Ferelden and then discuss later. Would also like to add - http://www.nexusmods...age/mods/4394/? for the restoration of dialogue. May be more i have missed.

My favourite mod for DA:O - Improved Atmosphere as a whole. It adds so much to the game, and fixes lots of small issues.

Dragon Age Redesigned is a must for me aswell.

Since I romanced Alistair a lot and the mod fixes a ton of broken dialogues and screwed up plot flags that never got repaired, IRS:Alistair is my go-to mod.  It plays nice with ZDF and MRP which fixed other dialogues with some minor adjustments.  Ser Gilmore Companion, and more weapon/armor mods than you can shake a stick at, especially Roguelass's armor mods.

Aside from those I trusted to play nicely together, I didn't run many conflicting mods that altered dialogues/game coding.  I think Dialogue Tweaks and mods like ZDF are not compatible, but I could be wrong.  I know DT wasn't compatible with IRS.

Tried Improved Atmosphere but then people started showing up naked in my game.  Probably a conflict with some armor mod I had, but too lazy to sort it out.

A friend wanted to start playing again so I reinstalled it to my PC and streamlined the mods I have.  Mostly IRS, Skip the Fade (a must for those tired of that sloth demon fade sequence) and texture mods like Pineappletree's colors and Dracomies textures.

Lately, the Winter Forge is on my list.

Mostly I like a lot of the small ones.. just dialogue improvements, elf ears, DA2 Warden armors, etc..

I use Improved Atmosphere, but I delete a lot of it. It's mostly there for NPC/town behavior.

ZDF and Dialogue Tweaks are compatible. At least for me. I don't use any Alistair add-ons.

Have you tried the mod that changes the DR with an Alistair romance?

Winter forge and armors and weapons meshes mods are a priority alongside the Dragon age redesigned mod the latter is also the more downloaded mod.

With the winter forge i took more fun  in create new custom armors than playing the actual game

(since at this point i already know the plot).

I know right, it was so sweet.  The scene should've been written that way in the first place.

Thank goodness for mods.

The most important at least to me was the mod that altered the ultimate sacrifice animation for Loghain and AListair since they disappear like phantoms  when they killed the archdemon  just because they were not the protagonists.

I don't like DA Redesigned. It's a little too drastic for my tastes, but I mostly agree.

Yah, I thought that, too, initially. Once I got used to its changes, though, I really came to appreciate them.

Well, I use one of the faces for Leliana from it.. It's "version 10" or something. It's almost like vanilla Leli, but with the pinker skin from DA2/DAI. It's the best Leli I've seen besides the default.

Yep, like the changes to Leliana. Think I used 11? Maybe 10. I'm also a big fan of the improved Morrigan. That choppy nose in the original was the visual equivalent of nails on a chalkboard for me.

Lel's skin is odd in vanilla DAO.  It's oddly yellow, then gets pale and pink in DA2 and DAI.  Bothers me no end, I mod her face purely to change that one detail.

It's like she's deficient in something and needs a multi-vitamin.

Yeah, it's a little jaundiced. She looked better in DA2/DAI, but I still like the basic design. The mod I use is kind of moderate...best of both worlds.

Same with Cullen. lol. I just have a mod that removes his wrinkles.. doesn't change the face shape though.

The color of her skin got to me, too, in vanilla DA:O. I haven't yet tried DA:I. Really on the fence whether I should after the travesty that was DA 2. Some aspects of DA:I appear very cartoonish to me and the weapon sizes! Seems like somebody somewhere is compensating for some serious phallic-related shortcomings.

I happen to like DA2.. I think DAI is more of a travesty. If it gets really cheap though, you may as well try it. If only to have a DA worldstate for future's sake.

Yeah, most 2h weaponry is ridiculous.. as are some of the skills (like the Earthquake strike).

I'll probably give it a go. We'll see if that forever kills my enthusiasm for the DA universe or reawakens it somewhat. One thing I've loved about DA:O is the mods (obviously). DA:I moddable?

I didn't play the PC version, so haven't kept up. Looks like a lot of cosmetic stuff at this point.

It doesn't have quite the same capabilities for modding. The engine is more locked down. DAO had a toolset and official support.

Bummer. You would think considering the shelf-life of DA:O (going on six years now) that EA would have created a toolset and made DA:I officially moddable.

Not sure why they didn't, but DAO was still based on old Bioware stuff (Eclipse)..made before EA came into the picture. DAI is Frostbite.. and none of the Frostbite games are easy to mod.
