By extension, one couldn't create a true AI without acknowledging the fact that specific neural architecture is absolutely necessary for generating consciousness. It would require a fundamental restructuring of how modern computers are built.
Which may be a good thing. It means that we may have robot slaves and it could be 100% ethical. So long as we dont make a mistake like the Quarians and accidentally endow them with sentience and even worse, sapience.
That's an interesting point. Consciousness is generally regarded as a byproduct of having a brain, in which case a sufficiently advanced AI would necessarily develop some form of consciousness. But nobody really understands what consciousness is, let alone how brains work.
