Whenever people talk about creating meshes for Dragon Age Inquisition mods, they refer to 3Ds Max. Why not Maya? Is the program not compatible with DAI mods?

Also. I know how to install mods already made by other modders, but what if I want to make my own .daimods? Any good tutorials on that? When I google stuff, it brings up how to install nexus mods already made.

what's the secret knowledge required for actually making your own complex mods? What, C++? What is it exactly?

Okay I found this.

It's still kind of cheating, though, because "Ehamloptiran" already created a tool that organized and pops out all the assets and textures from Dragon Age Inquisition for you....when I have this feeling that modders were able to grab these assets from within the bowels of the game without any such in-between tool. Or am I wrong? Are all the modders really just using this Ehamloptiran tool?

C++ is a programming language created at Bell Laboratories back in 1983. C++ is the programming language for many of the games made today.

C++ tutorials can be found: http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/

Visual Studio Express can be found here: https://www.microsof...s.aspx?id=44914

It contains Visual C++

Visual C++ tutorials can be found: http://www.cplusplus...n/visualstudio/

3Ds Max has an educational version that can be downloaded for free. http://www.autodesk....oftware/3ds-max

You can also download a free copy of Maya. http://www.autodesk....e-software/maya

Both Maya and 3Ds Max are owned by Autodesk.

You will have to invest sometime in learning Maya or 3Ds Max.

Blender is also a possibility: https://www.blender.org/download/

I found this tutorial: http://www.thefibero...complete-noobs/
