If they are made from females why they have more than two breasts?
Do they even breastfeed darkspawns? I think this was an unnecessary over sexualization they don't even need breasts to begin with so way have 6-8 in their design?
I don't understand these games anymore much less how the taint work it does effect people in whatever way the writers want.

I think artistic decision is swayed more by symbolism than biological or scientific logic in many things we see in games.

I don't find multiple rows of sagging boobs to be remotely sexual, and shame on you if you do.

Agree but i think that 6 was an exaggeration they even wrote that stupid snarky comment from Oghren in the expansion

If Body Horror made logical sense it wouldn't be Body Horror anymore.

Because they are mothers to a large litter so they need more breasts to feed the taint to their youngins. Like dogs or cats.
Or an attempt to make a tainted version of a fertility goddess. Something beautiful and welcoming made horrifying and repelling.
Or to drive home the fear of being dragged into the depths, bloated with the taint and forced to spend the rest of your life birthing and caring for horrible abominations. (That's more for the DAO broodmother. The awakening one was kind of cute .)

So broodmothers feed darkspawns with their nipples? That's just ugh

Anyway i saw that they changed design of the darkspawns in between games and also removed the desire demons so maybe we will never deal anymore with broodmothers

Well in Awakening the spawn are just lava that hatch from eggs and need no breast feeding.    I read somewhere that this was meant to be a different form of offspring as a result of the Architect giving the Mother the Warden blood, but that makes no sense at all.    I've asked elsewhere why the women morph into essentially insect like queens simply through contracting the taint but having this sort of physiology does account for why they lay eggs that become lava, before presumably metamorphosing into the relevant darkspawn.      It also accounts for the huge number of offspring they are said to be able to produce.    I cannot believe, though, that broodmothers are simply the result of normal women being dragged underground, tainted and raped, as horrific as this would be.   Some sort of magic is involved that transforms them into what they become.   They seem to be some peculiar hybrid, which is why they lay eggs, yet sprout multiple breasts.

Could it be that the thing the elves were so afraid of was not simply red lyrium or the darkspawn taint but some sort of creature, probably the result of magical experimentation by Ghilan'nain?    When they collapsed the caverns and sealed them with magic, they also trapped some of the slaves in with it and then over the succeeding millennia the broodmothers and their darkspawn offspring is what resulted.

True, maybe they Architect transformed-raped the mother with spiders that's why she look like an insect just like the children are insects like similar to spiders.
some design choices to me just don't have much sense

Why is a woman's body seen as sexual by default but a man's is not? There's nothin sexualized about brood mothers.

True, they're just breasts. Their only function is to feed young. And we don't know whether darkspawn "grow up" or come out they size they are when we kill them. Maybe they ARE fed by the broodmothers. "awakened" darkspawn seem rather attached to the "awakened" Mother, so maybe they are "raised" in some sense of the word.

I think it's one of the departments where BioWare wanted to capture a creature's character by its design. Maybe they wanted to get the "This scary monster is a mommy to tons of darkspawn," message across...? If one were to design such a creature, how would they express its purpose? I'd like to think that's what made them choose such design. Otherwise, I agree it doesn't make much sense that the victims grow extra breasts once they turn into broodmothers. (Unless it really does serve some purpose and we just weren't shown.) On the other hand, the Blight is still a huge unknown and, given the horrifying practice the victims go through can turn a woman into something like we've seen in DAO or Awakening in the first place, I suppose a few extra breasts aren't really more bizarre than the rest and the fact the thing even grows tentacles.

They designed the broodmothers to be a perversion of a human woman, so they took elements from a human woman's form and put it together in disturbing ways, in order to invoke disgust. I've called that "abomination aesthetic". It suggests that the creature in question is unnatural, as opposed to a predefined state of grace represented by the natural and specifically the healthy human body, and needs to be put down simply for what it is, not for what it does. In addition, things that evoke disgust tend to invoke a traditional moral dimension which sets the sacred against the profane, the pure against the impure. By their appearance, it is suggested that the broodmothers are a violation and perversion of everything we hold sacred.

In the end, it's a form of emotional manipulation. We see it and associate evil before considering any facts. We are called not to hesitate to put it down. Personally, I hate to be thusly manipulated, and I always try to keep my distance, for in the end, appearance says little about other traits. The broodmothers in DA are victims or villains (in Awakening), but neither the idea that they - as the victim - suffer a fate worse than death and must be given a merciful death, nor that they - as the villain - are evil and must be cleansed from the world,  can be concluded from their appearance alone.

You see the same kind of aesthetics used for the Reaper minions in the ME trilogy, with the banshees being most notable.

And in a lesser form, the reaction to the glowing green eyes in Synthesis, the mark of being "other". Among other things, Synthesis is a call to go beyond our stone-age genetic legacy that put such mechanisms in our mind.

I think they made Alistair and Oghren design the Broodmother

Dev: So guys, we have to make a visual design for this beast you will encounter in the game. It's a mortal woman corrupted to make Darkspawn babies! How would do you think it should look?

Alistair: Like a Darkspawn? So perhaps it can... spawn... things...

Oghren: Tentacles!

Alistair: I didn't say anything about what it should-

Oghren: And ****! Make it have lots of ****, heh.

To be honest they inspire more pity than disgust at least to me,i don't see their evilness they are just broken ghouls.

The taint caused deformities.

No.

Four times the breasts is only sexier if it involves four times the women. It's a rule of mathematics or something.

I don't understand these games anymore much less how the taint work it does effect people in whatever way the writers want.

Wait, you understood these games before?

The taint, without the Warden resistance, corrupts females as it does males. But of the females who don't die from it, the darkspawn try to transform them into broodmothers.

I was put in mind of a nursing sow more than anything else, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was intentional, regardless of whether the darkspawn actually nurse (doubtful).
