I have a similar one, except the Dog went through the Eluvian with them  :D

Other Headcanons I have:

  • My Warden was a Cousland, the family sword was broken during Howe's massacre but later reforged into Starfang
  • Avernus modified the Joining Ritual to reduce the fatality rate, and as a result Mhairi survived it.
    • The modified Joining also gives the Awakening Companions and further Fereldan Wardens the Power of Blood talents
  • Velanna became The Warden's liaison to the Architect. As far as the Wardens in Weisshaupt know, she disappeared into the Deep Roads looking for her sister.
  • The Warden and Loghain joined Alistair in his quest to find his father
    • Alistair and the Warden reconciled at the end
    • On the quest The Warden finds the lead that sends them West
    • Loghain learns about Corypheus; the Dragon Cult that held Maric was a faction of the Venatori who broke off
  • The reason Leliana can't find any of the Fereldan Wardens is because they all joined The Warden in their quest to cure the Calling.
  • The Southern Wardens break off from the Wardens in Weisshaupt and form their own Order. They name The Warden their First Warden after they come back from the West.
  • The Inquisitor, with Dagna's help and unknown to their inner circle...
    • Constructs Blue Lyrium armor similar to Samson's Red Lyrium armor and repeatable crossbows reversed engineered from the Revered Defender Bolter's weapons fought in The Descent.
    • They are used to utterly crush the Qunari at the Daravved and the Dread Wolf's shrine
  • The Inquisition becomes Divine Leliana's Peacekeeping Force and the rebellion that springs up to oppose her is rumored to be brought down by them regardless if Leliana is Hardened or not

Good idea, it would be cool if instead of the non-Warden Varel performing the Joining (I always hated that) Avernus does so. Or at least some veteran Warden who is no longer able to fight due to injuries but can still help administratively before they go on their Calling.

I headcanon that Warden's Keep and the Vigil are the same location. Rather than being Howe's ancestral home (it's a bit far from Amaranthine to be his family's seat) it's just an abandoned keep that turns out to be haunted by Avernus and Sophia. Once we clear it out we discover the dungeons and tunnels underneath.

I headcanon that:

Mage Hawke learned Blood Magic from Torpor (this was his reward for helping him).
He is not identified as a Mage by the Templar authorities 'cause he disguises as a TH Warrior, using his bladed staff as a spear often.
Nobody notices Garrett is a Blood Mage because nobody knows as he never uses those spells in public nor in front of his companions.
As he helped the Templars deal with the Orsino/Meredith/Blood Mage threat, he is pardoned and named Viscount.

I like the Torpor idea, plus that would show Anders' disgust at blood magic, since he already dumps Hawke if they make a deal with the demon. I think Anders and Fenris would not be in a relationship with a blood mage Hawke.

I also wish mage Hawke (and Bethany) had been taught basic combat by their father so they could pass as mundanes. Focus on less flashy magic like strength enhancing spells and charging their weapons with elemental energy. Have a mage!Hawke and Bethany-only spell line for apostate magic.

Not headcanon exactly, but I haaaate the fact that Morrigan's apparently been wearing the exact same outfit for the last twelve years, so I like to pretend she's wearing one of her concept art outfits in DAI.

Spoiler

Sooo much better.

I headcanon that she secretly likes the Orlesian dresses but makes a show of only putting up with them in order to remain in Celene's favor. The first time she put on the dress in her room, she twirled around in front of the mirror and thought back to the young girl she had once been who dared to steal a mirror.

She has never told anyone about this.

THAT should be made part of the actual story. Way too funny to go to waste.

Yeah well mines a humorous bastard - so he probaly amused my Queen Cousland so much (as she's a Alistair romance) to the point where she took back the Griffin, with no punishment. I'd say my Hawke would say that was a successfull trip, actually.

Thanks! And the bolded Headcanon reminded me of another headcanon I have for DA2:

  • Warrior Hawke and Bethany go with the Red Iron Mercenaries because they knew that Malcolm ran as a Mercenary to hide his magic. Hawke never had formal training in "swording" so during the year he refines his skills. Bethany learns to fight with a polearm and discreetly use magic in public.
    • But Hawke took side jobs for Athenril's smugglers for extra money and other favors

Actually here are some more for DA2:

  • Hawke saved Breaker Thram's life and as thanks she "broke" him into the Reaver Spec.
    • Hawke 'signature' weapon, like the Mantle of the Champion is his signature armor, is the Blade of Mercy. In the gift scene with Fenris, he makes the sword glow yellowish. When Hawke uses Reaver powers, it glows blood red.
    • Hawke doesn't eat parts of his foes to regain health; he does a sort of Zandatsu (from Metal Gear Rising) with the hearts of his foes; absorbing the life force from them.
    • During the final fight with Meredith Hawke went all out the power of the Reaver. As a result of overusing that power, Hawke's eye color became blood red permanently.
  • Hawke successfully intimidates Merrill's clan into not attacking rather than saying "I'll make sure Merrill doesn't hurt anyone."
  • Varric's Tale of the Champion includes the Legacy and Mark of the Assassin dlc but omits the parts about Corypheus, Tallis being a Qunari spy, and Duke Prosper being the noble they infiltrate.
    • For Legacy, the Book version of the story is Hawke trying to stop Janeka from using the Blood of the Hawke to unlock an Old God Prison.
    • For Mark of the Assassin; Book edition, Tallis is just a thief, the Orlesian Duke is made up, there's no mention of a Qunari list; they're just stealing The Heart of the Many which is a Dalish artifact, and the end implies Hawke had a threesome with Tallis and Merrill. Hawke always face-palms and sighs when asked about it, but he never outright denies it happening either...
  • Legacy takes place during Act 2. At the end of ACt 2, the Warden business that is more important than the Qunari attack is investigating what happened at Corypheus' prison

I can see Morrigan and Alistair as half sibs actually; Flemmythal is all kinds of cunning so I would wager she would have multiple contingency plans in effect so she had access to the Theirin dragon blood for whatever purpose she has planned. This could also explain the intense disgust and hostility of Morrigan to Alistair in the first place. And Morrigan isn't squeamish when its about gaining power. (if she sleeps with him knowing their siblings)

I headcanon Leliana x Inquisitor ------------- because Cass and Jose were awful imo

Leliana is in a dark place emotion wise in this game (at least at the start) I feel like it would been a

good opportunity for the Inquisitor to help her out of it, be there for her and help her come to terms with her grief and then open up romance.

My head canons are:

-The Architect found a way to counter Corypheus' and the Nightmare's influence over the Wardens in other parts of the world.

-Athenril is the Red Jenny from Kirkwall.

-Corypheus sent the carta to extract the Red Lyrium because the Rock Wraiths attacked his men.

-Ataashi flew to the Silent Grove and Yavana took care of her wounds.

-Sandal's biologica parents are Sha-Brytol.

My favorite headcanon is that my warden was possessed (in a very sneaky way) by Mouse during his Harrowing.

What happened is that Mouse, knowing full well that becoming an abomiantion equals, basically, to a demon's (and mage's) death at the hands of the templars, he got inside my warden's mind without actually possessing him or controlling his every action, but rather only putting whispers in his mind when he saw fit/was bored.

A few examples of this are:

1- He initially got into blood magic to protect his friends and the helpless (his true self's intentions) but later delved deeper and deeper into it just to show tha templars that he was their better. That he could use dark arts and not be affected by them (and, ironically, he managed to do just because at the end of Origins he simply stopped caring [or broke] and became a 24/7 duty driven Grey Warden)

2- After he was defeated by Cauthrien, tortured at Fort Drakon, had to be seen at his lowest by the two people he never would have allowed to see him like that, Morrigan (lover whom had just recentely rejected him) and Leliana (unlikely best friend since his[at least starting] hate toards the Chantry)....... well, let's just stay that he spent some time running around Denerim, killing people, fighting Caxkhang (solo, but for RP this and more :P) and generally being batshit furious

3- Also when Morrigan proposed the ritual his pride got hurt very badly at the thought that she had just used him for her own gains, and so he refused just to, later, understand that pride is not courage and he simply didn't want to die. So he let his brother and king, a king whom he had swore to serve just days before, die because of cowardice

I really like this Warden of mine, mainly because he is a very tragic character that i could describe with Anora's words referring to Loghain "my father is an idealist too, but he understand the price of idealism". Someone who is too smart to be an idealist but still wants to be one and, in the end, ALWAYS gets put down by chance or faith or the thing in his head.

Enough to say that when i played Witch Hunt i actually had a hard time deciding what he would do, because even stabbing Morrigan would have fit perfectly well with the tired and utterly broken person that he had become (ended up going through the eluvian because he wanted to meet his son, but if Dragon Age ever has the warden as a main character again i will probably change that to kiss and goodbye since that is probably what he would actually do)

Master Dennett calls you "Inquisition" because he thinks that's your actual title, and it's gone past the point where Inky can correct him without it being awkward.

Nobody reacts to the Inquisitor plummeting sixty feet from Leliana's balcony, slamming into the ground next to them, then walking away like nothing happened, because it happens so often that they've gotten used to it.

Leliana and Alistair have a quiet thing going if you don't romance either of them in Origins.  I know it happens canonically in the Darkspawn Chronicles, but it should also happen canonically in the real game because they would be such a sweet couple.

Morrigan actually encountered Hawke briefly when she briefly visited Lothering, a year or so before the events of Origins.

Despite finding Hawke surprisingly easy and pleasant to talk to (especially compared to most people she tended to encounter), Morrigan ended up slipping back to the Wilds before Hawke was able to learn her name. This mostly was due to Carver's interference ruining their conversation, after he took his sibling speaking to someone outside their family as a cue to add his regular charming self to the mix.

Or he's suffering from a common British problem, where we often fail to introduce ourselves at the start of the conversation. If we either fail to catch someone's name or have forgotten it by our next meeting, then we hate the awkwardness of having to actually ask... so instead prefer to simply bluff our way through the conversation like we know what it is, desperately hoping we have a mutual acquaintance we can find it out from.

I like the idea that Dennet calls us "Inquisition" because he thinks it's our title, or because he never learned our name during our first meeting and is far too proud to either admit he doesn't know or stop and ask someone.

Cullen has a thing for elven mage gals because of his "boyish crush" on Surana in my worldstate.

My "Canon" Warden Tabris had a threesome with Alistair and Morrigan during the Dark Ritual because she's in love with both of them (and to make Alistair more comfortable).

In the three year gap between Hawke being named Champion and Act 3, my Warden Tabris stopped by Kirkwall partly to see her old buddy Anders (and Justice), partly to escort the last band of Denerim Elves that Loghain had sold to Tevinter back home. She then asked Anders for help, and more or less goaded Fenris into helping too. The two (plus Fenris and Merrill, who volunteered) then had one last adventure together, first trying to sneak the smuggled elven slaves through the city and onto the ship that'll take them back to Denerim, then fighting slaves once their cover was blown. She parted with Anders on good terms, and this was the one time Anders and Fenris more or less willingly worked together before being back at each other's throats.

Years after DAO, my Warden Tabris and Alistair went to visit Soris and his human wife and many children in Highever. Things were still tense between them because of Soris' bitterness at her being praised as a hero while he was ostracized for the same "crime" of killing Vaughan, and her distress at her cousin leaving the elven community but unwillingness to say it out loud since she became a Warden, and fell for a human too. Alistair was secretly thrilled to meet members of her family who don't make him awkward for being human (I imagine he played with the kids on the rug, until Soris' sweet wife called him to have minced pies, just like his Sloth Demon dream), and Soris' wife was anxious for my Tabris to like her and for the two cousins to reconcile. Eventually Soris blows up at her, harsh words are exchanged, everyone goes into a different room to cool off, then Soris' wife convinces him to forgive his cousin, and the two are finally able to reconcile. Before leaving, they chuckle at the irony that several years ago they had a double wedding with elven strangers to satisfy elven custom, yet today they're both committed to humans. The two finally parted on good terms, which was good, because not too long later she left to find a cure to the Calling.

My "Canon" Lavellan was born to city elves who fled to the Dalish when she was a baby. Her mother raised her to prefer city elf culture, while the Dalish obviously raised herto be part of their Clan. After a whole childhood of struggling with her identity, she was forced to admit she never felt truly city elven or Dalish. With help from the Keeper, she eventually realized it doesn't matter: "City elf, Dalish elf; in the end, we're all elves." The day she realized this was the day the Keeper said she was ready for her vallaslin. She now has a deep appreciation for all elves regardless of cultural background (though she identifies as Dalish), and doesn't like it when they look down on each other, as she sees it as needless division. (This is part of why Sera's and Solas' constant badmouthing of the Dalish, pushing her away for trying to connect with them, and constantly assuming she's stuck up just for being Dalish upsets her so much.)

I enjoy a lot of fanfiction, particularly those about Alistair and Anora learning to love each other. I've got some ideas of my own haven't gotten around to writing it into a cohesive series.

Here's what I imagined for my male Amell, the human mage:

9:32 Dragon. After the events of Awakening the Hero of Ferelden is sent to reclaim and stabilize Gwaren from raiders. Queen Anora (who is married to Alistair) heads down there in hopes of being able to help her childhood home. Unfortunately, they discover the returning refugees blame Loghain for not helping his teynir during the Blight, and direct their hate at Anora. Despite the pleas from Ser Cauthrien and the Hero of Ferelden to return to Denerim she resolves to stay and make up for her father's mistakes. This puts her in increasing danger as they fight to reclaim the port city. Her enemies go so far as to fire burning arrows at her window. Their struggle ends with only one raider escaping justice. His name is Ianto.

During this time Orzammar launches a decisive campaign to claim Kal Hirol and clear the Deep Roads in-between them. This is prompted after the discovery that the darkspawn were using Kal Hirol's smithing tools to fashion their new weapons and armor. With the Hero Ferelden at Gwaren aide is sought from Orlais again. Commander Clarel arrives with a small army of Wardens to secure Kal Hirol from further incursions. King Alistair sends a token force as well. King Harrowmont intends to clear the Deep Roads by having two forces converge from opposite ends. Unfortunately the Assembly is divided over these plans, causing confusion in armies' orders. Darkspawn attack the Orzammar forces who remain entrenched near Caridin's Cross. Commander Clarel eventually becomes worried at the lack of news and leads her Wardens to Caridin's Cross. The dwarven commander at Kal'Hirol refuses to move out, forcing several of his soldiers to mutiny against him. When they reach their comrades they find them besieged and desperate. Fortunately the Wardens and Ferelden's soldiers help turn the tide and bring a bloody end to the campaign. However, the Assembly puts more praise on the dwarven soldiers for their victory thus angering many of the dwarven survivors. When the Kal'Hirol commander brings up the mutiny they challenge him to a Proving battle and kill him. Among them are the fighters the Hero had challenged during the Blight. Wishing to honor their fallen comrades and their allies, they decide to remain in Kal'Hirol. This includes Seweryn, Baizyl, and Wojech Ivo. The Hero of Ferelden will return later in an official ceremony honoring the souls who died fighting for it. Years later, Kal'Hirol's citizens will continue honoring Commander Clarel and the Grey Wardens after the events at Adamant fortress. Rule over the thaig is maintained with a power share between House Helmi, House Dace, and House Vollney.

Kal'Hirol becomes a major thaig again with strong trade with Amaranthine. Its farmers prosper greatly from this relationship. Most of its beer comes from a newly established brewery. Dwyn from Redcliffe is hired by King Alistair to represent Ferelden's interests. He moves to a rebuilt Knotwood Hills, above the thaig. At the same time Ortan thaig slowly grows back into an inhabitable settlement. The Hero of Ferelden introduces the idea of creating silk from the giant spiders there. Originally this idea came from the Dalish elves who moved into Ostagar. It takes a few years before Ortan silk (named 'dwarven silk' on the surface) is commercially recognized as a competitor to Orlesian silk. Dalish silk from Ostagar is mostly traded with other clans.

Orzammar's army remains disorganized after the battle to secure the thaig. The Legion of Dead becomes the largest force outside of the capital, with its largest detachment maintaining order in Kal'Hirol. The second largest is based in Ortan Thaig. Dust Town slowly becomes vacated due to promises of decent work and decent housing in the outer thaigs. Aeducan Thaig fails to become a safe, habitable place. Accusations that the Carta have moved in there prevent sufficient aide from restoring it.

9:36 Dragon. With Vigil's Keep completely repaired the Warden decides to search for a cure from the Taint. He hears of a Ferelden merchant ship getting lost in the West. Using this as an excuse he leaves with his mabari in tow to begin his search. The Silver Order is already established as the main army of the arling. Nathaniel Howe is initially left in charge.

9:37 Dragon. Mage-Templar war breaks out. Nathaniel and Oghren decide to go after their friend. (Sigrun died defending Vigil's Keep during Awakening. Velanna already left years ago into the Deep Roads.) Garavel remains as Seneschal and Ser Derren was made Bann of Amaranthine after the death of Ser Esmerle. Ser Tamra already returned and joined the Silver Order.

9:45 Dragon. The Hero of Ferelden, Nathaniel Howe, Oghren, and the faithful mabari arrive at Orlais from the west. They succeeded in finding the lost Ferelden ship and brought back four surviving crew members and the remains of the ship's cargo. News of the Warden's personal search are undisclosed, but it's revealed that he sent word to the First Warden. While at the docks the Hero of Ferelden reclaims Vigilance after the bizarre death of the raider, Maldine, from a lighting strike. Varric and Paisley Pete witness the event and re-introduce the Warden to Admiral Isabela. Coincidentally, Bethany Hawke, sister of the Champion of Kirkwall is with her.

This part was rethought as having my Warden as a female Amell because I liked the idea that she looks like the Champion of Kirkwall (who is a woman in my DA2 gameplay.) It becomes a constant joke while Bethany and the Grey Warden travel together. My Warden happens to be a dual-wielding arcane warrior.

9:45 Dragon.

The Hero of Ferelden (female Amell) invites her cousin, Bethany, to join her group until Hawke is safely back from Weisshaupt. The surviving crew members of the lost ship and its goods are sent back to Amaranthine with news of the Hero's impending return. The Grey Warden is unsure of her status as Arl of Amarathine. Through Leliana's contacts they soon learn there is a small family estate in Val Royeaux with a part-time staff. The small group decides to stay there until arrangements are made for the next ship leaving for Ferelden. Initially they try to keep a low profile, although some mistake the Grey Warden for Hawke. Bethany assures her there's no strong resemblance, but she personally finds her resembling her late mother, Leandra. As a joke Warden Amell convinces Bethany to dress up in Grey Warden mage armor while she dresses up in medium, roguish armor. She keeps Vigilance by her side at all times. Bethany doesn't enjoy being mistaken for the Hero of Ferelden.

Their plans to keep a low profile are ruined when they drive off a flight of high dragons near Val Royeaux. They are brought before Empress Celene who declares a banquet in their honor. (Bethany made her cousin switch clothes before they were brought before the empress.) The heroes soon find themselves caught in the local politics and to try to catch up with events of the past few years and the Inquisition's disbanding after Trespasser. The Grey Warden and Bethany witness new power struggles, even as they find their family status rise higher among the nobility. While in Val Royeaux they get acquainted with Orlesians like Edouard Desjardins (who watched their confrontation with the high dragons), the Orlesian Matchmaker, and the new Divine. They also meet fellow countrymen Arl Eamon and his family, Arl Bryland and his daughter, Habren, and Ser Tamra, who remains with them at the Amell estate. Using wealth gained during her search out west Warden Amell decides to spoil Bethany. She pays for tailors to make her a stunning ball gown, a whole new wardrobe. She also establishes a personal bank account in Orlais and Kirkwall. Associates of Varric make this possible. After being reminded of the late Anders, the Grey Warden becomes Connor's patron in his training to become a knight enchanter. Bethany rejects calls from Fiona and Vivienne to pick a side and accepts the Divine's request to meet with the Mages Collective in Ferelden.

When they finally sail for home, they see more flights of high dragons around Thedan shores.

Okay, here's something rather personal: most people would call this pointless nitpicking, but the Geographer in me simply cannot stand the lack of sense of scale often exhibited by many writers, including Bioware's.

So I try to invent slight variations of the plot to override the plot's geographical impossibilities.

For instance, I heacanoned that there wasn't a two-years long interval between the end of Inquisition and Trespasser: the Inquisitor's quest lasted nearly three years, and only a couple of months elapsed between Corypheus' downfall and the summoning to the Winter Palace.

Because COME ON! You're telling me that the Inquisitor criss-crossed all over southern Thedas, and did everything portrayed in game in one meager year?

Also, speaking of unrealistic time frames and lack of of sense of scale... I headcanoned that Ferelden is 200.000 square kilometers large and populated by approximately four to five million people. Why, you ask? Because if Ferelden is the counterpart to Britain, and since the Dragon Age is clearly meant to be Thedas' late medieval crisis, it makes sense for Ferelden to have the same surface and population than Britain before the plague.

But with such a surface, it's impossible that the army assembled in Redcliffe marched toward Denerim in merely three days, therefore my headcanon is that it took them over a week to cover the 400 kilometers between Redcliffe and Denerim: a week during which Denerim weathered alone the onslaughts of the Darspawn Horde.

(I also imagined that as the reasoning invoked by the Warden to justify letting Vigil's Keep fend for itself: If Denerim lasted one week, the Vigil, which was mainly a military installation not surrounded by a large city like Denerim, had no reason to fare worst)

And, according to the same reasoning, the Arling of Amaranthine covers roughly 12.500 square kilometers and is home to at least 300.000 inhabitants (Amaranthine being a major trading port and a province prosperous enough to rival Kirkwall, I don't see it not being more densely populated than Ferelden's average).

That's one of the drawbacks of enabling jumps in these worlds. I've been playing Elder Scrolls Online for the past few months and it's weird how I jump across entire zones just to forge my unique armor and jump back. I also don't like heading into the western Orlais before going to Crestwood. But I hate not upgrading Skyhold before moving on. If they designed it to have Skyhold upgrade after clearing a zone's major challenge, maybe I'd be okay with a slow renovation. It would be like restoring Vigil's Keep before the major assault.

And really...Halamshiral is closer than Adamant Fortress. It makes more sense to handle that stage first.

A couple more of mine, these having more to do with the actual stories/dialogue in the games:

1a- From the "Where Are They Now" desk, my canon Warden, a Dalish "disappeared" because she was in mourning for the death of her clan. She learned about what happened from Bodahn, and left for Kirkwall to reunite with Merrill, her last surviving "family", and arrived not long after the Chantry disaster. It was learning about Merrill's work over the last several years that made her think it could be possible to cure the Calling, in fact. The two of them are still traveling together, along with Oghren (still her bestest bud) and Dog (and yes, the dog's name is Dog...it seems my Warden has something in common with Gamlen, of all people).

1b- For that matter, she's not actually trying to cure herself, as she's dedicated herself to the Warden life and has accepted all that that entails. However, she regrets how things went with Alistair (who got exiled at the Landsmeet), and while she doesn't necessarily forgive him for walking out on the Wardens, she still cares about him enough to accept his decision, and feels he that if he wants to leave the Wardens behind, he should be able to do so completely.

2- From the "I feel like this solves more plot holes than it creates, at least" desk, I headcanon that "Anders" in DA2 is pretty much just Justice at the wheel, and Justice only thinks he's Anders because Kristoff, being dead, wasn't a "typical" symbiotic-case possession. This explains a few personality differences, including why Anders shifts from straight to bisexual in DA2...boy-mortals and girl-mortals just aren't that different, from Justice's perspective. Similarly, Karl and Anders weren't lovers, though they were "more than friends", in the same way that Leliana and Divine Justinia were more than friends. But Justice, being a spirit, can't really tell the difference.

I headcanon my Trevelyan Inquisitor is elf-blooded (because I love half-elves and hope it's a canon option for DA4's protagonist) and all of my non-elf fem!Inquisitors have unrequited romantic love for Solas, because I enjoy pain obviously.

Yeah, one of my main complaint about the game is that the devs sacrificed narrative coherence to non-linearity and "player agency".

Being able to complete the main quest-lines in whichever order you want made some sense in Origins, where everyone being too ensnared in their own petty internal struggles to fight the Blight was a central plot point, but in Inquisition it made no sense to allow players to go gallivanting in western Orlais and send a large army against Adamant Fortress before dealing with the country's civil war.

There's also the occupied town of Emprice du Lion just down the mountain ranges from Skyhold. Hello? They didn't think it was wise to scout the nearby regions for any Red Templar forces?  There's another side to the Frostbacks besides Ferelden!
