Orzammar and the Deep Roads in Origins are still after 3 games my favorite part in the series. My fascination with the dwarves is the biggest reason I have a strong bond with the Dragon Age series. The problem is that dwarves have always had sort of a side role in the series. Especially in Inquisition there is very little about the dwarven lore aside from the descent dlc.

History tells us that the dwarven kingdom once spread across all of Thedas. My personal quest in this series is to rebuild it to it's former glory! I sincerely hope DA4 will bring more insight on the dwarven lore. How does the dwarven empire progress long-term with Bhelen/Harrowmont as king? What impact does the golems give to the empire, will they help conquer back more territories and what side effects do they bring? How will the news of the Titans impact the culture and lyrium trade? Questions like these are vital for the lore. In Inquisition we got much insight about the elves (which personally I don't care about) and now for DA4 I think it's the time of the dwarves. BioWare, make the dwarven lore a central piece of the series from now on!

I believe the answer to this question is best summed up, oddly enough, in the Bible - Ecclesiastes 1: "Vanity of vanities," says the Preacher, "Vanity of vanities! All is vanity. What does man gain by all the toil at which he toils under the sun? A generation goes, and a generation comes, but the earth remains forever."

The Stone remains forever, no matter the passing of its children.

Even if the darkspawn were to disappear or die off, which is unlikely, the dwarves are a people facing desperate times. There are only two dwarven cities left, and they squabble. There are likely more dwarves on the surface now than in Orzammar or Kal-Sharok, yet they are shunned. The Caste System constrains the true potential of this once mighty civilization as much as the encroaching darkspawn hordes. Lest we forget, it was the infighting among noble houses that hobbled any chance that the dwarves could mount an effective defense when the darkspawn first appeared.

I believe that the best hope for the dwarves is to reconcile their long-held faith with reality: the surface is now the key to their salvation. They must loosen the Caste System to allow surface dwarves a respected place in their society. The lyrium mined by the dwarves ensures they can buy needed food supplies for now, but perhaps they should consider purchasing land near their remaining cities for farming or even invest in the farms of nearby rulers to supplement their current sources.

If Bioware does take us back to a dwarven city, it will likely be Kal Sharok - the former capital of the once great dwarven empire. If any major decisions are to be made that will affect the entire dwarven people, I imagine it will be there.

So far, I think we'll get greater emphasis on dwarves, lyrium (as a whole concept), and underground dungeons (at least in a sense). The Descent may be kinda weird to be in DAI, but it looks like one big plot setup machine.

Sidenote: The Qunari emphasis people are thinking may happen in DA4, I disagree with. I think it'll be a mix of DA2 and DAI in that respect - a major arc and with more characterization, but not the big thing. I think Qunari major emphasis will be in a DA5 or DA6.

Bhelen's reforms actually makes the caste system less relevant and supposedly improves connections to the surface but it would be really interesting to see the differences between the kings' impact first hand. Imagine you could see 2 different versions with either the traditional empire by Harrowmont or the reformed one by Bhelen each progressing in different directions. While the dwarves could sustain a greater food production on the surface the stone has always provided them with what's necessary. The ever lasting struggle with the darkspawn is a great burden, but also shows the strength the dwarves still have left in them. With Bhelen's rule they get military assistant from the casteless combined with golems could do much work and pushing the darkspawn back. While it's known that through Bhelen some territories were won back we don't know exactly how far they may get long-term.

Rather than just having each game about saving the world you could instead focus on shaping it.

I'm all for bringing back their lore. I hate this overuse of surface/Carta types... they're just too human-like for me.

I dog the extra races in DAI, but it doesn't mean I hate them. I just like to be enveloped in whole cultures and areas. One or two is cool, but this is too much...they're literally ruling everyone else's world at this point.

I wouldn't even mind a whole dwarven heavy game. And a big dwarven squad.. ala the Hobbit. But I doubt that'll happen. Or even a huge Deep Roads game, as long as it has some variety. Like an epic dungeon crawl.

Don't particular care for their separatist attitude/culture, what they do to casteless, and the entire caste system is sickening. as bad as humans and the alienages, that stuff aside, I wouldn't mind revisiting a more Dwarf focused adventure.

I predict plenty (well, depending on one's thirst ) of dwarf content in the next game, especially if it's set in Tevinter. The revelations about the Titans and how the Stone lives beneath Orlais coupled with Tevinter's dwarven Ambassadoria, Proving Arenas, underground embassies, and the ever-present lyrium trade...
