As for the topic, I'm not convinced that the high position of the Couslands makes it more likely for the crown to be handed to them if it hasn't already been. An average bann would probably not want that much concentrated power in the hands of the monarch.
But I'm arguing that absent a monarch the banns would elect the candidate most powerful and capable. All things considered, that would eventually be Fergus or his younger sibling.
