Greetings. I am planning to make a Male Elven Archer Rogue Warden. Here are my planned decisions:-

  • Romances a Hardened Leliana. Marjolaine is dead.
  • Does not perform the Dark Ritual.
  • Lets Loghain make the killing blow.
  • Puts hardened Alistair and Anora on the Ferelden throne.
  • Made peace between the Dalish and the Werewolves.
  • Allied with Caridin to destroy the Anvil of the Void.
  • Completes Slim Couldry's quests as a big f*ck you to the nobles.
  • Performs the assassinations for Master Ignacio because he considers Zevran a good friend and because the targets are bad people who need killing.
  • Kills the slimy Tevinter slaver Caladrius.
  • Saves everyone in Redcliffe.
  • Allies with the mages.
  • Does not agree to Jowan's idea to use Blood Magic to save Connor, requests Circle aid to save Connor.
  • Did not defile the Urn of the Sacred Ashes.
  • Neutral / apathetic when it comes to religion.
  • Kills the Architect.
  • Kills Sophia Dryden and let Avernus live and perform ethical experiments.
  • Asks Morrigan to give the book she stole from Ariane's clan and let her walk into the Eluvian.

The thing is, I don't know which Elf Origin would most suit him. Do I go with Male Mahariel or do I go with Male Tabris ?

Looking at the decisions I plan to make, it could go either way. Additionally, what specialization would most suit an Elven Archer Rogue ?

Well, Dalish are taught bows almost like a religion. Plus, they'd get plenty of practice hunting.

I'd go Mahariel, personally. You could be a City Elf prodigy too, but Sera kind of has that covered.

Rangers fit it well... they fit Leliana well too for her secondary and if you have points to spare. Assassin Mark of Death needs to be melee mode, but the passives work well enough.

Sera ? This is DA:O. We don't see Sera there at all. Also, Sera gives City Elves a bad name. Besides, Tabris' mom did teach their kid some skillz.

Mahariel seems like its the way to go but why would a Dalish Elf go for a Chantry girl ? Especially when Mythal's daughter is around him ? Its also hard to imagine Dalish Elves being apathetic about their religion.

That's the problem I have. I think I want to pick Mahariel then problems crop up. Then I switch to Tabris and Maharel seems better.

I'm saying in general. That's her niche. She just picks up bows and simply "knows" how to be expert. She's a natural.

But how many times do you want to see that repeated, even across the series? That's my only point.

I live in a city.. it isn't easy practicing archery. And I'm good with it. But not as good as I could be as a hunter and a lot of freedom. And especially not for this setting, when elves can't even use weapons in Denerim.

Ah, I see your point. I live in the city too and I practice archery as a sport but I know I will never be as good as that big game hunter but the thing that annoys me about the Dalish Origin is how Bioware spats on it.

The Dalish were supposed to get some land in the Hinterlands for their contributions but Bioware ruined that. By contrast, City Elf gets to be a Bann and that was not retconned out.

Also, Dalish origin story seems a bit shorter than the City Elf origin story and the emotional connection is not there. You just permanently move on until the end of the game where you meet Ashalle again.

Furthermore, as an archer, you must know that archery as a skill is easy to pick up but difficult to master. I picked up archery within an hour or two but it took me months to be good at.

Which means a City Elf Archer makes more sense since you start the game at low level and you level up, which reflects the City Elf's limited training but he improves over the game. By contrast, the Dalish Elf is supposed to be a good hunter but the skill levels do not reflect that.

Yeah.. I can't even shoot at all in this particular neighborhood :\

But anyways, I don't mean to be against it. I still spec a little archery on CE.. I just don't start with it, personally. Just my 2c.

I replied to that when I edited the previous response. Archery is easy to pick up but difficult to master. City Elf has some skills due to training by his mother but he is not the best out there so he starts of at level one with limited skills.

City Elf improves over the game, levels up, specializes, returns home and kicks his enemies' arses.

That's cool too. Like I said, just my 2c.

My basic impression of City Elf is they're a little crazy anyways. It's not like my dagger rogue or warrior were that much better. They had more ways to practice, but ultimately it's their attitude and determination that sets them apart.

I think I will go with City Elf. I will go also with Bard & Duelist for specializations.

The reason for my choice the the Sabrae Clan and Merrill. Merrill in DA2 and Merrill in DAO might as well be completely different people. So are the people of the Sabrae clan. Yeah Isabela is a different person and Anders is a different person too but at least Anders became an abomination and you have a choice to not talk to Isabela.

Have fun. I kind of miss the Dalish story carryover myself. Even if she is different.

But I like Leliana and a CE romance more.

All the boons were retconned, the only ones that maybe remains are becoming a paragon if your dwarf made the US, and giving Amaranthine to the GW for the human noble.
