A five year gap will hardly hurt the ME series, and DA is no different.
Please start working, on NEXT DRAGON AGE. I LOVE IT ....

Serza,If a company has momentum going with a game series they should capitalize on it instead of sitting on it. In short sell the games while there's interest in playing them because interest in games will and do fade as a better series comes along.
Five years is a long time and there will be many games release during that time that could possibly relinquish the current DA games to the storage shelf as dust collectors.

I wouldn't expect the next Dragon Age game until at least 2019. Bioware seems to be setting up a pattern so that they'll have a game from one of their franchises come out once a year in rotation. So as it stands now:
2017: Mass Effect: Andromeda
2018: the secret IP
2019: Dragon Age: ?

And here you are, suggesting they should make another DA2...

Serza,Not at all.. They can be a tad faster on their releases since there is a market. Square Enix released FF1 Dec '89 and kept a study flow of games since and released several between 91-99. They knew they had a good thing going and decided not to sit on their hands.

BioWare isn't Square Enix.

I also feel it's important to add that developing games in the late 80's or early 90's was probably not as demanding and technical as it is now. Which means, it takes longer to make a properly polished game because there's more work involved. Not to mention how expensive it can get to develop a AAA game.

ME series was a finished series before they decided to pick it up again. DA is ongoing, so five years seems a bit much for a continuation right now.

It's entirely possible they're already working on it, but haven't said anything concrete because they're not ready to announce/EA has chosen an announce date that's at some point in the future.
As a comparison, we know that preliminary work was being done on Inquisition as early as two months after DA2 released. The game wasn't announced, however, until 2 1/2 years after DA2, and about 2 years before the eventual release date.
Any speculation on our end about Bioware's release schedule beyond Andromeda is pretty thin, since we don't know their order of priorities, EA's marching orders, exactly what future games are planned, anything about the new IP that might affect development time/resources required, etc.
"Wait and see" is always a frustrating answer, but sometimes, it's all we've got.

That said, the leak was about 18 months after DA2. Then announced not too long after.
But i agree 5 years is a bit much. I'd've thought DA would be more likely to be announced before the new IP. Because as was said, DA is a series set in chapters. They can't wait too long between each chapter, or interest may be lost.

I meant that a significant portion of the gap went into development. Unlike a shorter gap, which would allow for less dev time.

Because they had no concept other than it was going to be called Mass Effect and there was going to be space. DA is already set up for another game, there are ideas and concepts planted at the end of Trespasser. Five years would be too long for that kind of set up, imo.

You know what would save development time? Not rehauling everything between each game.

Is it really so bad if the next DA is a few years away? I doubt the series would benefit from another rushed sequel.
Being rushed or not is not only a matter of time

2018 is what I hope. There is no hurry for the new IP because not that many people know about it, but DA has many fans and some of them would not be happy if they would have to wait longer so it should be a priority.

The development is so slow, because they now replace the hair styles with even more bald head, and they make impassable places for small objects, which will be collected. Keep calm! Well be good!
PS: I almost forgot! The elves are still too fat and robust, they should be slightly thinner! Not an easy work!
