So. You've played 4 hours straight in one long campaign in SP. It was a success and the elevator tune is still ringing in your ear (even tho me:a promise to have no elevator pitch). Who knows - maybe you even followed some online guide, done it in 16 painstaking glitched moves and slyly bypassed the AI. Nonetheless, even this can be tiring and satisfying for some players out there.

You're also done with dusting the furniture  (ie repetitiveness of visting all ship's crew members and completing the conversation to get some points somewhere, running in and out of your own room to feed the fish or change your suits colour).

You also got up, physically from your slouch couch, and took a long and hard look at your own fridge interior - even though you know that what you really really want is not in there.
Finally you took the cold pizza slice, dusted off old blackened salad leaves and took a gulp of cream soda for good measure -for the gazillion'th time. and created 17 LI posts in BSN. Because you can - and nobody is your supervisor.

So - now you need a 20 minute break even from your own life - sort of timeout the clock - just to do mundane time-wasting stuff that doesn't include saving the universe.

Eventually you do what every self respecting 3xSeries Mass Effect player do - you go to your virtual kitchen to relax.

  1. What favorite food can our hero/anti hero prepare for his crew?
  2. Can he/she/it try recipe variations?
  3. Which are your favorite recipes you want to include? submission requires text and visual images in the absence of olfactory samples.
  4. Can it flop?
  5. And how can a full stomach influence squadmate performance on the battlefield (a la napoleon).
  6. Does a health bar multiplier make sense if the food was good?
  7. Or should it stay optional as a non-essential fun part.
  8. Does it make sense to build in animation for Geth - so that they can also  show satisfaction/appreciation (since taste/smell is mostly transported by oils - mechanical lifeform also appreciate oil) or
  9. should the game AI be a neural network that learns your taste and make suggestions when you return from battle?

I think a romantic dinner for your LI was deserving of another thread.

I'd have Hanar spiced with Quarian sweat and some raw Salarian liver served iced cold.

And Ryncol.

yep - still. the common mistake westerners make with ramen are that they add too much water - then it easily breaks into 5 cm pieces.

CHRroME. CHRroME.

So let us consider what would've been If we had a good grill in the ME:A kitchen. Ofc smoke is a must - and I can somehow imagine that a Krogan kitchen must have zero visibility due to the smoke and hot, very hot. They have two hearts, ... might as well use it.
  • One argument to overcook meat is, that some belief, that they kill off bacteria (pasteurize) - but it is proven that a number will be left even if you made charcoal of that - so out of the window with that urban legend.
  • another argues that overcooked meat tastes better . Now exactly that bacteria / enzymes/proteins + fat gives meat it's wide range of flavour. Heat successively and continuously breaks down the those long strings of fat and protein - into various (always shorter) lengths . The wider the range of flavour - the more aroma. So overcooking is just a sign that we like to have less & less aroma - ie to the point of eating a carton box with a nice colour.
So there is a point where you increase the the aroma, and thereafter overcooking quickly reduces the variety of oils. smell = detecting oil types. The maximum aroma is when all variants are in there. see the maillard reaction and mottram on the nice grilling flavours in meat.

Now I would (also ) like to see the reverse sear method in that MEA kitchen. Since a few years, a grill guru convinced me, to perform the ultimate sin in my eyes (at that time)- ie to dry brine the steaks on both sides two hours before grill and put them back in the fridge. That salt helps that proteins hold in moisture as well as enhance the flavour. Of course we're not talking about minute steaks here. So we now also need a fridge in our me:a kitchen.

Or do you use a grill electric then and just slap em on with a plain direct fire?

It does indeed kill important bacteria that may be present on the meat, but hey I'm not the one eating it, you can eat what you want.

Still, kudos for your post 9.25/10

I think the far more pressing question is if we'll have any sous vide cookers, or if we'll have to fill a cooler with hot water and hope for the best.
