So i bought the 4 - 1 boxset 1½ years ago. Just tried reinstalling it 3 days ago. The installation goes through, but then the problem starts...

I click the Launcher, i press Play and then.... Nothing :(
Ive installed that old patch fixing some issues, ive tried running PC as W7 compatibility, nothing. Most people say that Windows 10 finally killed any possibility of playing the original game.

Does anyone here know if there is a fix for this or do i really need to revert to W7 in order for me to play BG? And that would be my only reason for reverting, which would be a bit silly.

Please help me.
I´m going into withdrawal from not playing... on a serious node, im saddened by this. I really want to play this game again. It is without a doubt my favorite PC game of all time.

Thanks in advance :)

One mistake that a lot of people make is installing under program files.

That is where you would expect to install it.

Don't.

Make another folder in your C drive or wherever.

In mine it is C:\Black Isle\

If you continue to have problems, there are other threads on the same topic. Read them.

One is below called "Baldur's Gate Help"

The advice by Flamedance on "Gameplay issues on new computer" might also be helpful.

The advice on "Can't install BG - help please?" could also help.

All you have to do is enable directplay and use compability mode for winxp or win7, and disable dpi scaling.  Windows should have indicated it needed directplay for BG, just go to Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features and click "turn on windows features" on the left..it's in there.

There is no need to use compatibility mode. I haven't needed to and I have Windows 10.

You might have difficulty with some mods as files are not put where you would expect them. Some are put in documents and the overrides are a bit more complicated.

I am in a worse position. Due to the massive bugs in the new patch for EE, I wanted to break out my DVD versions and install them.

When I put in the DVD for Baldur's Gate 1, the autorun screen appears. When I click "Install" the screen disappears and nothing happens. I've tried running it in Compatibility Mode and in Administrator Mode and neither works.

Can anyone help me on this one?

Have you tried disabling all other programs that might interfere with installation - particularly virus checkers and browsers?

Yes, I disabled all virus protection programs. No internet browsers were open or running at the time.

Thanks.  It's still possible you've got some other program running that is interfering.  If you want to test that you could try installing while in safe mode (see

http://windows.micro...pc-in-safe-mode

for instructions on how to get into that)

Running in Safe Mode allows me to install the game, thanks! Once I installed it, it ran fine in normal Windows. Huzzah!

Good to hear that the Sword Coast will be under assault by one more adventurer  :).

open your control panel and enable the old dot.net... windows 10 doesn't have them by default and some installers will check for them at start.
