The space hamster was cheeky, but would you rather have a true companion animal instead?
Me, I'm more of a Cat guy, but Dogs can be man's best friend too.
Also, Dachshunds always give me a juvenile chuckle.

YES.
But science indicates that if I can have a dog in a game, I will neglect all other aspects of the game. So it's probably a bad idea.
Yes, but not in Andromeda. Why would we be taking cats and dogs with us to Andromeda? We aren't going to eat them. They don't produce a by-product that we can use. There's no need for them.
Now, if it was an alien cat or dog, then absolutely. Ones that are native to Andromeda. But otherwise, no. No logical reason behind it, therefore it should not be in a game based on science - even if it is fiction.

Pets like cats and especially dogs provide many health benefits that can warrant them being brought along. Especially with something as emotionally and mentally taxing as the sojourn to and life in Andromeda surely would be.
Hey, even Alien had a cat.
Cats :3
and Varren !
A dog is a highly intelligent creature capable of aiding with hunting, security, transport, and companionship.
A cat is an ******* that knocks **** over and runs around the house when everyone is trying to sleep.
Not a pet, a war dog. This is something Mass Effect has never had before. If the game is going to focus on exploration then it could be nice to have a loyal dog with you during your travels. But it needs to be optional. If you want to leave the dog to the ship then that's what you should be able to do. And I don't want it to take a companion slot. It should be just something extra. Like the mabari in DA2.
And somebody said we don't need dogs in Andromeda... dogs can hunt, they can fight, they can herd other animals and protect them from predators, some breeds can work in extreme temperatures, they can pull a sled, they can find missing people, they can deliver messages in battlefields, they can sniff out mines, etc, etc, etc... If the humans of Mass Effect think dogs aren't necessary anymore then I will lose all my hope for mankind.
I think there should be animals with us in MEA but not as pets but so they can populate Andromeda.
I can see it already... this thread will devolve into "Catgirls as pet" and from there into "Catgirl LI"... ![]()

Catgirl? Catwoman?

Catgirl? Catwoman?
I wouldn't say no to her...
... btw... kinda typical how almost half of the DC Showcase Catwoman plays in a strip club. None of the other protagonists they introduced this way was treated like this.
Yep. Trouble is - with the dog sizes I like, I cannot guarantee that they'll pitch up the next morning with Turian or Salarian crewmember parts in my quarters for Easter like this :
[snip]
Yeah I'd definitely like a big bad rottweiler like Chop from GTA 5.

except better executed because all I got to do was throw him a ball or something once.
Or like D-Dog from Metal Gear Solid 5 who's actually pretty well done, right down to that eye patch!

Never go anywhere without my best friend ie dog

As someone who is not generally a fan of MGS, this dog was probably the best part of the game...
