Do you think it would be an interesting choice to play as a spirit? Depending on your choices and how you interact with the world, you can either become more human or more demonic. The character of Cole has really opened my eyes in regards of how spirits work, and the character of Justice reminds me that even the greatest of virtues can be twisted for evil.

No. Just no.
I would much rather that Bioware fix the helmet piercing ears of all of the other races than they make a new one. Honestly, that kind of crap should be unacceptable in a highly developed game so long after its launch.

Well I still think it would be an interesting idea. Exploring more of the Fade and giving us a unique insight of Thedas from the eyes of it's spirits.

The only way I see it working (although an interesting idea) is if a DA spin off MMO was made with multiple race selection, maybe similar to SWTOR. I personally wouldn't be interested in playing it, but I'd probably follow the game out of curiosity.

I would be more interested in protagonist who has been possessed by a spirit like Anders, Wynne and Flemeth. You would have access to special spirit skills and maybe there could be an alignment system like ME had Paragon/Renegade or KOTOR/SWTOR dark side/light side. For example if you do good things your spirit remains a spirit but if you do 'evil' or selfish etc, things it becomes more like a demon. The whole Justice/Vengeance thing basically.

That would be the preferred system. We've seen that spirits can possess/inhabit almost anything so it wouldn't be surprising that we could have a PC possessed/aided by a friendly spirit. We would have two PC at once. We could play as the main character in Thedas and the Spirit in the Fade.

Like Mask of the Betrayer.
Aight, that'd be cool.

Kind of like in Beyond: Two Souls?
I always thought it would be interesting myself. There were times in DA2 where it sort of felt like Anders should have been the protagonist. And first time playing through DAI, I half expected there might be a revelation like that about the Quizzy.
It would probably be a lot of work though. It's hard to pull off something like mind control or possession in a roleplaying game, because it takes agency from the player. The character can be possessed but the player can't, in other words. Same reason Shepard never struggles with Indoctrination in ME.

A spirit who thought s/he was a person, on the other hand ...

No thank you, we have too many spirit companions as it from: Spirit merger like Anders/ Wynne, to a spirit like Cole,
In fact, we've not even seen the "true" form of a spirit since they prefer to look relatively human to not scare the mages

Actually you have.
Whatever form the spirit takes, is its form.
If you want to get further into that, well, Trespasser tells us that at least the first elves started out as spirits. So, one could assume spirits tend to look a lot like elves. Or humans. Or people in general.

From strictly a gameplay POV, it'd be interesting to play a character who could possess different things, gaining different advantages. Have your base spirit form with the look you want, but your real power/flexibility being your possession ability. Maybe just dead things.
At lower levels, possessing basic corpses, animals, etc.. At higher levels, being able to possess golems, rocks (rock wraiths), trees (sylvans), turn corpses into Dire Animals, Revenants, Arcane Horrors and so on... Finally being able to possess a dragon (or dragon corpse) or become a varterral.

Considering how little race effects this game, I'd say No, don't let them do it, playing a Spirit in this world would be like playing a Mature Adult Dragon in a 5th level pnp D&D game. In other words you should be extremely powerful by comparison to a normal person in the game world and even some exceptional people, and there should be some serious consequences for playing such a race. Since BioWare hasn't been able to make such game altering choices when it comes to race / cause / effect, I would not like to see them butcher such a concept. Leave that to the PnP table where it can actually be done properly with more impact on the story and how the game itself plays.

I disagree respectfully. Spirits are much apart of the world as anyone else, any they don't have to be ridiculously powerful. Take Cole for instance. He's a spirit/human and he has special abilities he isn't phenomenally powerful. Maybe the writers can make the choice of race/class choices more significant in future games, they did pretty well with Inquisition compared to the other DA games.

The ability to be invisible to anyone and everyone and kill them outright, if not alter their memories, as well as sense emotions is actually VERY POWERFUL given that Dragon Age is a very low to mid level magic setting, opening up portals in the sky is a earth shattering event for them, the best mages have to use blood magic to become serious threats to groups of people of similar power or greater. A Vampire in their world is a corpse that becomes possessed by a spirit of gluttony or something. Cole is the most powerful person in the inquisition during the main game, and it's only because he wants to help people and you help shape that concept he has into something productive that there aren't random murders happening throughout Thedas on a grand scale.

All right fair enough. Hmmm. Most supernatural elements seem to be spirits possessing something. Sylvans? Possessed trees. Werewolves? Possessed wolves. Vampires and undead? Corpses possessed by spirits.

Could be interesting.
The main problem I see would be that your character wouldn't really be grounded in the world - no family/home/etc. Could make it more difficult to feel involved in events. I imagine a spirit would also have a more alien view of the world, which might be difficult to ask the player to role play with.

Does anyone remember the Jade Empire had the party member Wild Flower, a little girl who was the vessel for a demon? Maybe a character could work like that?
