Has anyone else encountered this problem?

I played the game in November and had no problems. I just started up a new game. I found that the movement keys would randomly simply stop responding.

I'd click W to go forward, but A or D, or either, would not respond at all. Or I'd stop, maybe to click on a terminal or pick up something, and the W key would not respond once I wanted to move.

Then I found I could get it working again if I pressed CTRL to walk first, then the movement key.

This isn't likely to be a problem with my keyboard, and it doesn't happen in any other games, not even this one until yesterday.

It made that sequence on Mars with the turret 'exciting' anyway.

I just had a case where I was talking to Joker and EDI and the movement controls stopped working.  I had to load an earlier save and find a new spot to stand to prevent the freeze. if it happens again I will try the ctrl key.

That's happened to me as well. You can get out of it by editing your save with Gibbed and raising your Y position with about a 100 or so. Apparently you get stuck in the floor for some reason. :P

I don't have Gibbed and I really don't know anything about file editing.

This 'getting stuck' spot on the Normandy is at the right-hand middle of the 'slope', behind Joker.

If you know it is there, it can be easily avoided.

If you do get stuck, you can use the console to 'Ghost' out of there. (Using wasd, up, and down -buttons)

That is, assuming you have the DLC unlocker or similar, which also unlocks the console @ the tab -key.

To get out of ghost, type 'Walk'.

I don't remember if these commands are case sensitive.

I know that at least the EGM mod fixes this part of the cockpit, so you don't get stuck there. Maybe there are other mods that do the same.

As for getting stuck anywhere else: I never had that problem, so I can't comment on it.

It might sound scary but It's not hard at all. :)

I don't have any mods except a texture mod for my female Shepard's dress.  I will simply save before entering the cockpit and try to avoid that spot.  I really don't know how to mod the game.  I play a lot of Sims 3 and that is my level of modding skill.  Mods go in the Mods folder and you never actually touch the game files.  This game requires actually moding the game files and I don't want to go there.  It may be easy if you know how, but I don't know how.

Fair enough!

Might be good to know that it is possible in case you for some reason haven't saved in ages and that happens however. :)

I read about the cockpit bug but mine isn't that. Weird thing is I tried again the next day and it was fine. Then the day after that it was broken again. Very weird.

Watch out for the 'windows' key. If you accidently press it, the game will lose the keyboard

Windows 10 does that all on its own, no game required!

If you dont need them, you could disable the Sticky and Filter Keys.  When they activate, it can be very annoying:

Great idea for gaming. Thanks!

Still haven't found a solution to this problem. I can find scattered mention of the same problem in Mass Effect 2 and DA:I Multiplayer. This issue has been around a long time.

OK so this apparently had to do with my anti-virus. I can't explain why, but for some reason disabling it let me play the game properly.
