Well, those leaked ideas about the remnants about a lost civilization point out that some catastrophical change did hapen in Andromeda in the past, so there may be an explanation for that (just don't let it be "Reapers did it" again, or "Elves did it", or "the Sith Emperor did it").

When story was announced that it's pretty much about human. I wonder the Remnants are some sort of creation of ancient human in Andromeda (kinda like ancient human in Halo series, millions of years ago). Then catastrophe happened human got degenerated and was sent to the nearby galaxy aka Milky Way.

Uhhhh, source?

Uhhh, Mass Effect 1. Although my quote was incorrect. The way it is actually written implies more that there are just dozens of sapient species in the galaxy at large, Terminus and Citadel Space combined. Although my point still stands.

The Citadel houses the main governing body of the Milky Way galaxy. Of the dozens of sentient races across the galaxy, the vast majority recognize the authority of the Citadel and its ruling Council

I started a new ME1 play through just the other day and came across this bit of lore info, that's why I remembered it. I've played these games so much that I've populated my memory with a large body of Mass Effect facts that are relatively useless in the real world.

Also note that the writer uses both "sentient" and "races" incorrectly. But the statement is clearly written to imply "sapient" and "species", as a sentient but not sapient being wouldn't really be capable of recognizing the authority of the Council.

If there are advanced spacefaring races i doubt any defences would be all that relevant. The colonists would be at mercy of those races benevolence.

If they aren't that technically advanced then the issue is the ability of theark to quickly manufacture defensive equipment for land deployment to protect colonists from native retaliation.

Agreed. Assuming an Arkship carried the colonists between galaxies, it is far too important to get involved in a battle. Stealth, keeping on the move and diplomacy are the only real defenses. I'm sure we will get into conflict within the game but if the forces we fight have even 100th of the industrial capacity we had in ME3 along with at least near similar technology, the Arkship can't afford to get into a fight.

Hope not. We don't need Mass Effect becoming anything like the post-Bungie Halo narrative. But with Schlerf's involvement, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Hopefully, the narrative explores the fact that Andromeda is referred to as a "zombie galaxy". Meaning, it's a galaxy that has long since ceased mass-producing stars. It'd be interesting to see Bioware use that as a way to differentiate the setting(its history and its current state) from the Milky Way.

Also there is a conversation sort after Shep arrives with Ash and Kaidan. One of them is looking out a window and mentions dozens of species on the citadel.

Sounds like the "dozens" include non-sapient races.

It was idiotic when Halo did it.  It'll be idiotic for Mass Effect, too.

Humans are from Earth.  Yuri Gagarin was the first one of us to go into space.

What? Like varren? I doubt that's what they meant. You wouldn't group sapient and non sapient species together and say they all live on the citadel. No population demographic stats include peoples pets unless that was the purpose of the study.

EDIT: the link also states dozens of races competing, and then lists creatures as a separate category.

The Milky Way is populated with dozens of races. Some are valued members of Citadel space, working to build a better galactic community; others are lawless, caring nothing for the Citadel Council's edicts; a few are outcasts, but all are unique.

Shepard and co were looking out over the ward and commenting on how the citadel is home to dozens of species. It was clearly intended to mean sapient species as it was implied that humanity was just one of dozens.

That said, Bioware obviously glossed over that as they didn't want to have to actually invent so many aliens and have them all show up in the game.

That article is from 2012, before the series introduced the storyline we were talking about. The trilogy, ODST and Reach were just fine as far as I'm concerned.

How about google it yourself? Just kidding, sort of, I would have linked it but someone beat me to it.

Here's another lore tidbit that you may or may not know - there is a subspecies of Salarian, never shown in the games, who are bigger and generally more badass than normal Salarians. They live in the Terminus Systems, and are called the Lystheni.

http://masseffect.wi...m/wiki/Lystheni

Edit: I was under the impression that they were described as bigger and more badass than general Salarians. It's been awhile since I read that book. However, I now realize I had merged the Lystheni with that Salarian Tazzik from the comics, who is huge. There was speculation at the time that he was Lystheni, given how different he was from normal Salarians. Reasonable, but apparently Drew never clarified more on the Lystheni.

That's silly. No amount of soldiers would make any difference against the Reapers.

Ashley summed it up perfectly in ME1. I forget the exact line, but it was something like...

"I'm infantry, skipper. What good is that against 2 kilometer long starships?"

Yep. That's why I always get a good laugh seeing that cutscene , just before Shepard gets to the first set of missiles, showing all those characters fire at the destroyer doing a whole lot of nothing. Anderson says take them out any way you can. There was no them, it was only it, and it was the destroyer. Like all that small arms fire was going to do any damage. hahaha. They did get its attention and were killed because of it. excellent.

The other scenes is during the From Ashes dlc. Protheans firing at the destroyer doing a whole lot of nothing. hahaha

Let the ground troops worry about the uglies instead of wasting their effort on the destroyers and capital ships
