Is there any special dialogue for dwarf templars? Like, because of their resistance to magic and ability to handle lyrium more safely than other races, do they get any snappy comebacks or counter arguments when they're criticized for choosing that specialization? I've been thinking about making a S&S templar, but I don't really want to have to listen to Cullen and/or Cassandra lecture me about the dangers of lyrium use/addiction without being able to defend myself. As for why I don't want to just make one and find out for myself, I don't really want to play a dwarf that far into the game unless I know there's a good reason for it. They aren't exactly my favourite race cuz of the whole height thing. ![]()

cullen is the only one that criticizes you for it. and he only does it once. twice if you are romancing him.
I always kinda thought the ability to be a dwarf templar was a glaring plot hole. I mean, they cant access the fade because of their inherit lyrium tolerance but they can chug down the stuff and go around killing mages?
at best, their abilities should only work half as well as other templars, at worst, it shouldn't work at all.

-shrug- We know that dwarves can't be mages, but (minor The Descent spoiler) thanks to The Descent, we do know that it's possible for them to use magic under certain conditions. Now how much of that individual incident was because of lyrium exposure, and how much was because of the Titan's influence remains to be seen, but at the very least it does prove that dwarves aren't completely incapable of using magic. As for Templar abilities, since Origins I've been under the impression that they came directly from, or are at least are enhanced by the lyrium that they ingest, rather than from a connection to the fade like mages. Because of that, it seems distinctly possible that dwarves could very well wield Templar abilities (which seem to be more anti-magic magic than magic magic) if exposed to lyrium in the same way as human Templars, but it's probably just never come up beyond the Warden(s) and/or the Inquisitor because neither the Chantry and/or Orzammar's elite would allow any sort of experimentation on the matter. At least not any that would be made known to the public.
It's also worth noting that Templar abilities are never actually referred to as being magical in nature in any of the games, books, or lore in general. At least not in the same context as that wielded by the mages they're trained to fight. Whether that's because the Chantry simply refuses to acknowledge it as such, or because there's an actual difference has yet to be addressed in canon, but it could be why, even though everybody thinks dwarves supposedly "can't" wield magic, they can still somehow gain and use Templar abilities without everybody freaking out over it. (Although the Warden and Hawke could also unlock the blood magic specialization/trees without anybody saying anything, sooooooo idk. lol)
Or you could be right and it could be a plot hole, buuuuut if it was, then it seems like the kind of thing that Bioware would have addressed at some point over the last 6 years, 4/5 games, books, etc etc. ![]()
Although I will admit that the fact that they apparently don't need to take more lyrium than human Templars to gain the same abilities does strike me as a little bit off, but again, if it were actually a major plot hole, or Bioware didn't have some elaborate reason for not specifically addressing it (yet), then it seems like the kind of thing they'd have at least commented on by now. :l

I'd love to help out, but they told me I was too short to be a templar

Is that actually what they tell you in game when you try to become one? If so, that's hilarious.

If only; it would perfectly emulate that moment of irl shame when you can't reach the top shelf of things.

I had a dwarven templar in one of my pt, but I don't recall any race-special dialog options about his specialization. Alas.

I haven't completed Trespasser yet with my canon dwarf templar, so I will have to get back to you on that point later this week.
However, during your specialization mission in Skyhold, the Inquisitor can tell Ser that he/she will easily survive the process due to being a dwarf (it's a racial special).

The interesting part, IIRC, is that if you use that racial dialogue option to mention dwarven resistence when he's going on about lyrium addiction, Ser acually implies that you're not the first dwarf to think that, which itself implies that maybe there are other dwarven templars somewhere.

In Last Flight, there's Laros, a dwarven Warden-Recruit who used to be a Templar.
