I don't think mirroring would work as you would need to flip a lot of animations, camera angles, and aiming.  Simply flipping the animations would look odd if the camera is kept at the over the right should perspective and could hinder aiming since the camera normally comes in close to the right shoulder, if the character is left handed and fires using the left hand then the camera would need to be completely re-worked to be moved to the left shoulder which would also mean in engine cutscenes would need to be re-worked (if the camera uses the same motions it would end up in a different spot).  This could end up costing too much time and resources to enable a feature very few people would actually use.

Finally! Someone who's trying to stick with the OP's topic and keep their comments related to Andromeda and not themselves. Thank you Wolfsite,

Most left-handed people learn to use pc/console controls meant for right handed people. And, as mentioned, putting in so much time, effort, and money into making two sets of combat animations is not really worth it, considering that not many people will care.

Being ambidextrous I look at it different. you see I have neither dominant hand. I notice, I use both hands just the same over what ever control system. I strongly suspect most people actually do that, as you operate both sides of a joypad/controller keyboard etc. Without actually thinking about it.

But you must use one of them as the main writing hand, no? Or can you write with both hands? Kudos if you can! XD

I can write with both but use right mostly, as it smudges less. You drag the letf over the ink while the right precedes the ink.  I do things other than writing mostly left about 60 left/40 right. depends on which is easier. Say putting a screw in on the left side of a piece of wood I use left right hand and if on right I use left hand, I work with my hands a lot so often switch when one gets tired/cramped.. I can also write with my feet but it looks bad. But as stated it is both hands to operate a controller.

In fact - now that I think about that - I can also write with my left foot.
This is probably a good kickstart to get the thread rolling:

Its amazing what you discover when you break your right forearm and left thumb at the same time. :)  Back when I was 15 and thought I was invincible. :(

The only use I have of my left hand is just keeping my body symmetrical.

So when you use say a brush it is one handed. You type on handed. You carry shopping bags with just one hand. You use the mobile phone by placing it on a counter then typing text messages rather than holding it in your left hand. I doubt the validity of your comment above. :)

I'm right handed and I can't write with my left hand. Sure I use my left hand plenty for other stuff but important things like writing I use my right hand xD

Kudos to those who can use both! :D

You are right Let's say that I use it for symmetric purposes AND for balance then... :D

On a more serious note: don't ask me to use a key to open a door with my left hand, let alone to write anything.

Would like to claim Kudos, it is however just nature making folk different. I remember at school getting wolloped for writing left handed.

Another ambidextrous person here, so it's not something that I even thought about before seeing this thread TBH.  However, I've not actually encountered any lefties who are so strongly left-handed that they haven't been able to learn to do at least some things right-handed, so I tend to agree with those who have said that it probably wouldn't be worth the added cost of flipping all the animations and such to accommodate a "southpaw" selection on the controls.  I suspect that any lefty who tries the southpaw selection and finds a game uncomfortable because the animations are right-handed would just switch back to the default (right-handed) setting.

Where did you grow up? Amish America or something?

Glad I didn't experience that.

I am right handed, but my dominant leg is left. dominant eye is right though. I bat lefty because I push off with my left leg, same with hockey. Golf, oddly enough, I can do either or. I am pretty right handed though. I've worked on batting right and I can do it somewhat but it feels weird.

I have a question for people who are ambidextrous. when/if you talk with your hands does it feel natural to use either hand to do that same thing? How do you decide what hand does what? if there are any boxers who are ambidextrous wondering what hand you learned to jab with first.

maybe read the "power of habit" and decide for yourself :

After the nth (>100) repetition your modern brain get's lazy to consider all the trade-offs. Mr/Mrs Primitive brain (basal ganglia) raises his/her hand and takes over that activity and mechanicaly excecutes even the long complex sequences (driving backwards with a car, etc.). So even ambidextruous people don't consider which leg they soap first with which hand, when they hop onto that shower. This is very useful in social engineering of shop layouts, trolley heights etc.

Can be a bummer to unlearn if you acquired bad habits early in your life...

Andramada won't be a true role playing game unless we have the option to make our character left handed or ambidextrous as well. Have you ever noticed how using your non-dominant hand makes things interesting?Control schemes usually have a southpaw option but it's un-intuitive to use the left trigger when your character is holding the weapon in the right hand. Shouldn't it be a simple mirror to how the character usually holds his/her weapon? In one fell swoop, Bioware can cater to a large proportion of all of its customers.

Soldiers are encouraged to use the right hand because standard issue weapons are designed with right-handedness in mind.

If I do it, it generally feels natural.  For example, people tell me all the time that they've seen me writing with either this hand or that hand... and I haven't even consciously noticed what hand it was I was writing with... just whatever hand happened to grab the pen at the time.  I can say that my writing appears different depending on which hand I write with.  Both are readable, but I tend to think I write more legibly with my left hand than my right.  Some parlor tests - If pushed from behind, it's pretty much a toss up which foot I will put out front to break my fall.  If I hold a pen in each hand, I can write a perfect mirror image of text with each hand at the same time... meaning that what I'm writing with the right hand is readable and what I'm writing with the left hand is readable if looked at in a mirror.

Careful now.... we could get into another ME endings discussion based on Arthur Miller's play "The Crucible" (which is about the Salem witch trials).

I write left handed but play sports right handed - im odd I know.

Either way this thread is pointless, there is no need to bioware to do anything of the sort.
