I mean okay Bioware probs wanted to give us the illusion that we have ~so many options~ but this is ridiculous. Like really? Thirteen?!

Honestly I'm just glad we got race selection. If we were stuck as Humans AND we had those terrible hairstyles I would have lost it.

They aren't all terrible. But there's not much in the choice department either. I guiess there are that many near bald or near bald styles because they're easiest to do and even look halfway convincing if you lower your settings. Luckily my rig's components are strong enough to run shaders on ultra. I did miss the shader option initially and the black hair looked like a shiny plastic bag on the characters head if they're not set to hiigh or ultra.

Okay abaris and AlanC9, find me a a woman who looks better with short hair than long hair.  A few photographs if you will.

That you think look better? Don't be stupid. I could come up with a couple of dozen pictures, you'd say that you don't think any of them look better, I'd think you have lousy taste, and that would be that. Let's just cut out the middleman and skip the pictures.

Oh no I agree, there are some nice ones I was just caught up in the thirteen different types of bald thing. But alas I'm on PS4 so what I see is what I get.

I like to play both genders and I'm female. That said, if I make a male inquisitor, I do delight in making him as hot as possible.

yeah same with me generally except in my case that's when I create a female one

Not really most men play men look at the ME stats broshep wins both times if most men played female then femshep would have way more than only 20 percent in the stats or less.

But some men like to look at females ass and like to do a lesbian romance.

And the DA female run animation looks much worse.

When I was younger I used to play female characters almost exclusively. In games with romances back in the day there were no same sex options and mods to make it possible were rare if at all available. Also many games back then (and still today though less so) didn't give male characters the kind of love and attention in customization and attractive options that females received.

Today, however, many games released are far more inclusive of the diversity of humanity, and options for customization are more broadly given. Though female characters still win out in that area, male characters today have far more options than they did in the past and making an attractive male in many games is far easier than times past.

So now, I play both genders in games but when a game allows me to make a male character closer to how I identify myself, I typically choose male. DAI allowed me to make what I consider an attractive male character (as opposed to only being able to be some sort of musclebound neanderthal) and it had the options for male/male romances. And while, DAI's male/male romance options didn't really appeal to my own specific tastes, I did experience them at least once to enjoy them for what they were and even used a mod to allow my male inquisitor to romance Cullen as well.

I think it's quite common for people to make characters they identify with in some way even if its not always the same gender... and of course the eye candy factor comes into play for many as well. When I make a female character, I am not doing it for the "eye candy" since that's not what I am attracted to, but I DO identify with my female characters to a large degree. And not for nothing, I think at least a few hetero males may also have reasons besides "eye candy" to make a female character. Male or female, at the end of the day, we're all still human and I believe we all have the potential to identify with one another and find common ground regardless of the things that make us different from one another.

Why do you "guys" play mostly with a female character in dragon age ?

Can't speak for everyone, but I play DA:I with female avatars because the experience is different for male and female characters.  There's the obvious stuff, like romance subplot choices and different dialogue options, but there's also more subtle stuff such as how the different VAs handle their lines, which can change a scene completely between one playthrough and the next.  Also I like watching my Femquisitors get shot down by Cassandra.

I don't play M!Hawkes at all because I'm not a fan of his VA.  FemHawke's VA turned in a much neater shift, especially with the sarky responses, although doing the romance subplots with her makes me feel... despoiled.

Conversely I don't play female characters in Origins at all, because the male voice sets are universally hilarious and Morrigan won't romance a female Warden.

I like playing as any gender, but the trend these days for me is to start with a female character.

In almost all other games you play as a bloke, so I like the change when I get to pick.

I don't actually know if I play as female mostly, I always end up enjoying playing my male PC's more, but I think that's because I give them more room to roleplay more rough or aggressive characters then, I tend to play the diplomatic, curious, concerned way with female PC's in role playing games for some reason.

I can't remember precisely which voice this is, but one of them yells out "Success!" when unlocking chests as a rogue, which I always found amusing.

I've played one on occasion if the story is better. The City Elf Origin in DA: Origins, for example, is great as a female character. In contrast, I think the Dwarf Commoner cannot be played as a female (since she'd probably be another noble hunter)

I played a female character in Inquisition once so I could A.) see the romance for Cullen, and B.) to see if I liked the voices better. Sumalee Motano's voice was pretty cool, there's very few contralto heroes in games.

But I honestly prefer dude characters.

Sure she can - just make sure she's not conventionally attractive enough.

Got it all figured out, have you? My female Inquisitor is with Cullen. Another one has been with Blackwall. I didn't even try the lesbian approach, since it's my character and not me. And I always reflect on what she might do, who she would be attracted to. That's the appeal, not being me in the most remote form possible, not looking at some pixel butt or salivating over lesbians.

There's also the fact that the f/f romance options are Josephine and Sera, neither of whom a male player interested in lesbian content might find appealing for whatever reason. I mean, I can see a guy into buff warrior women wanting to make a fem qunari and romance Cassandra, but that's not an option. The same can be said for female players into m/m with Dorian and Iron Bull. Just because the LI has certain parts doesn't automatically make them appealing.

My main character was a female dwarf, even though I'm a guy. I did so simply because I like lady dwarves. Was that simple.

I think it's the same set that yells "We will need to fight shortly!" as a giant spider descends directly onto his head.  That's my favourite voice set, for that reason.

I don't know. Sera has a certain appeal on me, going by her personality. Might be the one and only lesbian affair I'm going to persue at some time.

I've never liked the cliché line "Well if I have to look at a butt for 40 (or whatever) hours, it might as well be a hot girl's butt". Who says you need to look at butts anyway? It's not something I really notice. When I do create a female, I make her face as pretty as possible, but then it's just distracting. I mean it's fine whichever you prefer, but personally it's easier for me to focus on the game when I'm playing as a fellow man.

I like to play as girls in video games, even in fighting games, but I prefer to play as guys if I can play as a gay character. It's just more about relatability, I can't get into the mentality of dudebro banging chicks everywhere he goes that often in a lot of video games nowadays.

I'm a guy, and all my BW protagonists had been male, except for the Inquisitor, that is. Warden, Hawke, Shepard, Furious Ming in Jade Empire. Every single one of them. The only reason I played female in Inquisition was so I could romance Solas with a Lavellan, since I thought it was the only romantic arc in the game that actually adds something to the story. Not to say I never played games with female protagonists. Tomb Raider, Mirror's edge, Life is strange, etc. I don't have any bias towards the protagonist gender. All that matters is that the story of their game is one I can get invested in.

That doesn't really hold together. On the one hand, you don't really notice the female charms, but on the other hand, you find it distracting and easier to focus on the game if not having a female PC.

I think I've given my take on this way back in the thread, so won't repeat it, but I always have female chars if possible.

Okay this is it i guess i guess most of you man have give their reasons of why or why not you play with a female character.

So Thank You all very much for all your posts ;) . I really appreciate all of your answers i almost red them all. There were a couple of answers that had nothing to do with this OP so tribute to you all male/female. Because there were a lot of women that replied to my OP as well. I now know more of why and why not man play with a female Inquisitor/character.

So again Thank You.

I've played both male and female. My characters in Origins have all been male. For DA2 Hawke has been female. Inquisition is the first DA game where I've created male and female characters. So I don't know about the statistics of what male players create for CC. I know that Freddie Prinze Jr. said he didn't want to look at a guy's butt for his main character, but that's not how I play it. Sure I've noticed the hips, but I can't aim with a PC's hip during combat, so I don't focus on it most of the time

Now that newer games are coming out with your MC being voiced, that is a factor as well. You have Alix Wilton Regan who is one of the voices of the female Inky whom sounds perfect for the part. Also I'll mention Fallout 4 with Courtenay Taylor's voice, which is perfect. The male voices for either games don't sound that great to me.
