Completed the base game as a male 2 times, completed DLC once (Trespasser twice). Tried to start a female elf walkthrough, never finished.
Why do man play mostly with female characters in dragon age ?

However if I could be a girl and romance Cassandra, that would SO be happening right now.
I agree. I once did a playthrough as a male IQ so that I could romance Cassandra. Not only did I have to make a lot of choices I wouldn't otherwise make to win Cassandra's approval, but in the end, the romance didn't feel right because the stupid hairstyle they gave Cass made her look too "butch." It made it seem more like a gay male romance. (I don't suppose there are any mods to give Cass longer hair? It's a pity she can't have the hairstyle she had in the anime movie her character was featured in.)
Somehow, as Cass currently is aesthetically, a female-female romance might work better. it's a pity because I really like her character and the romance dialog was also very well-written. At least female IQs can flirt with Cassandra until she ultimately lays down the law.

The romance didn’t feel right because of her hair?? Are you kidding?
So straight women should have long hair and leave the short styles for the lesbians I suppose? ![]()
That isn't what I meant at all.

Lulz. The importance of hair TBH xD
As to the question, eh people have their reasons I suppose. I prefer to play as my own gender when I can, I rarely bother playing with a guy if I can help it.

If I can choose to be male or female in a game, then I will always choose to play as a female. But I don't mind playing as a male if there's no other choice. I just find that playing as a male feels kind of weird to me.

Early last year, Bioware noted that 68% of created Inquisitors were male.
Twice as many fans prefer to play as male characters.

This is probably one of the most useful dev responses regarding the matter, and does partially answer some of the questions I posed. Emphasis added.
I find it odd that Gaider said he "wasn't at liberty" to tell us some or all of the telemetry, when Bioware occasionally gives us telemetry ![]()

Out of all the complaints about hair in DAI this probably takes the cake.

Why do you "guys" play mostly with a female character in dragon age ? Is it because we have beautiful butts where you can look at. Or is it because we women run more gracefully then man because the man look really ridiculous when they run in this game. Or is it something else ?So why "guys" why do you play mostly with a female character ?P.s. Maybe i am totally wrong about this but i just get the feeling and what i am reading here in this forum that i am not entirely wrong about what i am writing here.
Not certain if ppl play mainly female characters, but I do coz I am tired of male protagonists in books, movies, music, etc.

Yes, I know what I wrote sounds a bit bizarre. Note, I had no trouble with Leliana's short hair in Origins; I found her extraordinarily feminine and beautiful. (I find her somewhat unrecognizable in DAI, but I understand that as spymaster, they wanted her to have a more severe, serious look....while still being attractive. Origins Leli looked too sweet and innocent despite her background, I suppose.)
For me, Cass' hair is just too boyish, though perhaps that's not the only problem. Her face is not unattractive, but it isn't as feminine as the faces of other female characters. (That combined with the hair....) Which is too bad because I really like the character -- easily one of the most thoughtful and idealistic in DAI. (Even when you disagree with her, she remains civil and tries to understand your point of view.) I know the programmers were careful not to have overly long hair for any characters, but they should have at least let Cass let her down during romantic cut scenes.
In your case, why did you feel a female-female would've been more appropriate for Cassandra?

My dwarf got on really well with her and flirted like a demon every chance she got. There was chemistry between them (in my head at least) and I thought they'd be great together. I'd swear she was into it in the beginning. I knew it would never happen but I still flirted her little heart out every chance I got.
I don't think female-female is more appropriate for Cassandra, I actually think she's more straight than anything. I just think a bi-sexual Cassandra would be incredible and a more interesting choice for a female IQ than Josie for example.
But I can see her as straight, I'm looking forward to trying her romance out.

Seriously? I hardly ever abandon a game, I've currently got the guilts for not wanting to finish Jade Empire but I feel duty bound to complete it.
Ummm....so my last Inquisitor was a female dwarf rogue. Hitting all the targets there!
yeah I tend to only abandon a game if I'm stuck and I casn't find a way through or cheats to help. I do use cheats in single player but generally only to bring a game down to a level at which I can play it. I never overcheat though. For exqample during the tougher combat sections of Tombraider I do use the god cheat/invincibility. Especially because I do find myself being overwhelmed with my disability and all that. But I try not to abandon games especially good single player ones with a good story as there aren't many of those around these days. Which for me is one of the other main reasons why I think I'm such a big fan of Bioware's RPG's

The splits are better than Mass Effect, but Dragon Age still has a much higher % of people picking male protagonists than female. So, I doubt it's the case that most dudes pick women, or else we'd really have to jump through some stat hoops.
I always play a guy first. Depending on the story and how interesting the role is, I may later decide to make a woman my canon PC for that game. It's turned out pretty interesting that way:
Mass Effect: male
Dragon Age: Origins: male
Dragon Age 2: female
Dragon Age: Inquisition: female
