Objectively the female inquisitor's ass is kind of flat.  And her hips are kind of narrow.  Needs more junk in the trunk.   I just know that it can't just be because of her butt for most all guys.  She doesn't cater to all tastes (though I'm sure Bioware idealized her shape as much as they could).  But what do I know?  I'm a straight woman.  I just know that her shape is not what I would consider "ideal" .

It's not what I would consider ideal either, but I agree that Bioware definitely made it what they (and apparently, the general population) thinks is ideal. It irks me. We really need body sliders. And since I'm apparently responding to your post in reverse, I don't think her hips are narrow. Her body shape is pretty ridiculous to me, in fact. Here's a shot I took of a glitch in Skyhold, but it suits my needs here (cursed skin-tight beige pajamas being useful in this case):

lTGFr8h.png

I mean, her hips and butt are way wider than her waist. As to whether she has a nice butt... Maker, I can't believe I'm having this conversation... It definitely depends on the outfit. When this one was released, I remember a huge chunk of the conversation was about her butt. I mean, almost everything that wasn't "Finally no more beige pajamas!" was "Dat butt".

Spoiler

And a bunch of those comments were from straight women. Although, I'm relaying what I've seen others say because I tend to be fairly oblivious to these things most of the time. When this patch went live, my girlfriend and I were chatting while looking at the new outfits, and she definitely noticed right away (which surprised me), but I only really noticed after she pointed it out.

Because they want at least one DAI female character to look good.

Spoiler

Joking aside, this is somewhat true. I'm definitely not one of those "Cassandra looks like a man" people (that we just had the displeasure and amusement of seeing on this thread), but I don't find any of the female characters in DA:I particularly appealing. I think Cass looks fine, don't get me wrong. But I think the Inquisitor has the potential to look a lot better than the rest of the cast.

Or worse.

My human female quizzy ended up looking just like Ser Ruth. Which I guess means that she turned out OK, but wow, that was a weird Judgement

Indeed. I think it very much depends on what body types one is (culturally?)accustomed to.  I didn't have too much trouble with the elf body types, whereas I thought the human females were "bulky" (clunky) looking, wide hips, flat ass, neanderthal foreheads, and big feet, which I don't think changes with the new wardrobe options.

Regardless, I do agree that Bioware idealized the female form for male players as much as they could. After playing Saint's Row 2, I don't see why other companies have problems making body sliders.

Can't decide on a female dwarf or a male Qunari though. I have never done either.

Hmm, I guess it comes down to whether you want to see cutscenes occasionally cut off your forehead (in the case of Qunari) or cut off everything below the forehead (as with Dwarves)

Did the idealize? The vanilla bodies are rather borderline anorexic in my opinion. And androgynous on the side. Thankfully I'm on the PC and there is a mod adding variety.

I have ten inquisitors.  I try very hard in most games to keep the split around 50/50, though if it does favor one sex, it's female.  As far as why, roleplaying is definitely a reason, but I'm shallow enough to admit that I also prefer to see a fine looking heinie in 3rd person mode rather than having that horrid fat butt of my male Qunari in my face when he's running.  In truth, though, I really don't think that's all that shallow.  The female form is beautiful and I don't see anything wrong in preferring to see it over the male form.

Thing is, I sometimes think I get too into the role.  I remember  the first time that merc recruiter in Afterlife gave my FemShep that line about strippers.  I actually, ME not as my character, thought  "that a-hole did not just say that to me."

Assuming you were responding to me. I thought it went without saying that you could make the Inquisitor uglier than everyone :P But yeah, it's always odd when your character has the same hairstyle as someone prominently featured talking to them, and especially jarring if the facial features are similar (compounded by the fact that everyone has the same body).

The elves could be considered somewhat androgynous (relative to each other), but the humans? I have no idea how either one looks androgynous.

I don't think that's getting too much into the role. That's a pretty normal reaction for anyone who isn't sexist. Or, at all, really.

The humans? The human men aren't just average - they're fit. Getting a body like that requires work. Even if the Skyhold pyjamas make it look like the Inquisitor has lovehandles.

I paid close attention to the spa scene in Trespasser, since I wasn't seeing my shirtless Inquisitor otherwise. (Damn you, Josephine romance!) The human Inquisitor is indeed fairly muscular.

I think all the human men have the same body model, including Cullen and Dorian and the Inquisitor. I guess they all share the same workout routine. :P

Agreed... most people that big would be admired for the work.

But I have to say those aren't pajamas.... for the hundredth time :P I think it was ripped from the noble outfits in GoT. Tywin wears something similar.

Or is it because we women run more gracefully then man because the man look really ridiculous when they run in this game. Or is it something else ?

I actually feel the complete opposite about the running animation. Well, not opposite, since both animations are a bit off, but I just can't stand the so-called graceful running of the female characters. It's why I never got past the prologue section with my female Inquisitor. And I wanted to, mostly because the male voice actors were so... bland.

Aside from that, I couldn't say why. Sometimes I play as a female protagonist in games, but it all depends on the game.

I don't actually watch GoT, but aren't they, like, always naked and stuff? That's what HBO's marketing department has been telling me, anyway.
In a relative sense, running around in one's underoos actually is fairly well dressed, I suppose.

Human male noble in Origins (most PTs - tried a Dalish male once)

Male Hawke in DA2 (only played once)

All male IQs (all humans or elves) except for a female elf once.

Like the others who can't spend 100h or more looking at a guy's podex - I can't stand female behinds.  Besides, the human male a$$ on the DAI model is perfectly shaped, especially in leather.

Actually, Austerity really is literally underwear as well as pajamas. You sleep in it multiple times, and it's under all of your armour sets  ;)

So Austerity is like Under Armour then.

Austerity is the worst, people.  The worst.  It literally is the same color as the stone in Skyhold. You're like a beige ninja in that.  A bland, beige ninja...

Yeah, exactly. And it's also dirt-coloured, so the dirt buildup won't show at Skyhold. You know, instead of just turning it off at Skyhold. Modders have turned dirt buildup off, so it can't be that hard.

I can't shake the feeling that Austerity was a placeholder outfit that never got replaced. It would explain the colouring and the skin-tightness. Here's hoping ME4 and DA4 have better outfits and have a variety to choose from at launch.

The lumbering gorilla animations of the male characters certainly weren't great, but that spine-snapping, fish-flopping, hand-flailing female run is one of the reasons I played 3x as many male inquisitors as female ones and when I WAS playing those female inquisitors, whenever they would be in Skyhold and I couldn't bulk on the armor and back-hiding shields to cover that spine, it actually really creeped me out. I was so unnerved by the way her spine snapped from side to side in a way a real human's does not. It's definitely in the uncanny valley for me.

Well, at least they got rid of the waddle to the toilet run they had with DA:O when combat started. I really got the feeling, everyone's got an overload in their pants whenever I had the displeasure of watching it.

But I realize, they still stick with the one size fits all animations for cutscenes. You female inquisitor still lumbers like a drunken cowboy after a long ride and sitting down is always done with widely spread legs. Nothing new since ME3.

Thanks. Interesting to compare this to ME statistics. There are a lot more male Shepards.

yeah I may have done more male sheps than femawle sheps I think but I have pl;ayed the game several times both ways although most of my Hawkes and Inquisitors have been female I think. My wardens however have mostly been male although I've been playing a few female wardens recently in fact my current warden is a female city elven warrior

In answer to the OP, cuz I'm a self-hating man who wants to be a girl! (jk... no, really...)

In single-player games I will often make a girl character. It can get a bit... lonely? All those hours working through a campaign alone as a player are much less... rough... or more endearing?... when playing through a girl's story. How's that for an "honest answer," OP? A little more emotionally or psychologically complex than "cuz girls gots da ass." Not that the sexiness factor isn't part of it, but that aspect is ultimately pure novelty. I mean, really? The sexiest possible girl ass isn't sufficient to keep me interested indefinitely. (I'll happily test this though...) I'm talking about the aspect of the game experience that compels a player to feel for their character enough to follow through with them over long periods of time and come away with a memorable experience. Playing another hetero guy like myself... is nothing new. But guiding "my girl" through it all... good stuff.

Not sure what that says about the ability of hetero men to feel good spending lots of time with other men. "Where's the love for your fellow man!?" But it's just more compelling for me to have a girl character's story and abilities to develop. Despite how the "stong woman" trope has been over-done repeatedly in various media, I still enjoy it. That said, I'm usually 50/50 with the sex of my RPG characters since I'm also a content junkie trying to see all the different ways the devs have gone with their narrative... if it's an interesting narrative that has sex-based content. DAO was brilliantly so, particularly with the dwarf origins. And sometimes the appearance of guy characters is too cool not to run with. I love my qunari mage dude, and male dwarves are awesome.

As to MMOs- or anything of a more public world experience- I tend to go all-guy because the girls (and guys) are already there in the world to interact with... or guys playing girls often enough... so my character is just a liaison with many other people. I'll never use one of my girl characters for my forum avatar for the same reason: it's more or less representing me... and I'm a guy. (I looking nothing like my avatar and am a 6' human, but still...) In GW2 I have over 20 chars that are all guys, and I recently checked out WoW and ended up with 10 guys of the 11. But since I tend to plod out in an MMO world solo anyway the loneliness aspect crept back in when I got back into them, so also recently I tried introducing my recurring RPG girl character Kruklya into those worlds. WoW wasn't worth it as a world, but in GW2 that one girl character has now gone much farther in a few weeks in the GW2verse than any of my 20-some male chars ever have over the few yrs I've played GW2 off and on, raking in achievements and accomplishing things I'd never managed before... Cuz her ass. You know.

The OP is only interested in hearing what it wants to hear (that guys play women characters because they're pervs). The only purpose of this thread is for it to passive-aggressively shame people who understand what actual roleplaying is. No matter how reasonably you explain your perspective, the OP will treat you as being overly defensive (because, again, you're really just a perv!).

Troll thread successful.

Where did i say that man are perverts when playing with a female character ( maybe when you read between the lines i gave that impression but that is not the reason that i made this OP ). I just wanted to know why man play with a female character and with this OP i now know the answer to that question. What for instance SmudjyGirl said to play a role because it is a roleplaying game i liked that answer btw.

Then my brother is a pervert to because he plays with female characters as well and when i ask him he says because of the female shape. Some of the guys here gave the same answer. But most of you guys gave a much better answer to my question.
