French, German, Polish...they're all close enough to Spanish. Right?

I hope this thread lives. ![]()
Obviously, Mod02 is confused.

The most amazing part of this story is that BioWare decided that French, German and Polish were the most spoken languages among their customers. They aren't even in the top10. ^^
1. Chinese 1,197,000,000
2. Spanish 414,000,000
3. English 335,000,000
4. Hindi 260,000,000
5. Arabic 237,000,000

8. Russian 167,000,000
9. Japanese 122,000,000
10. Javanese 84,300,000

good question, though.....
The composition of Bioware customers isn't really reflective of the entire world, tho.
I know that. Wasn't a Mass Effect game censored or banned in India? Doesn't BioWare make a seperate version for the japanese audience, with some parts censored?
But Polish? Really? Before Spanish or any other language from that list?

This ranking seems to be based on native languages. A ranking based on total numbers of speakers would be more relevant (french is then n°5). I assume that bioware considers also the number of countries in which a language is spoken, rather than the mere number of people who speak it. Data on the ranking of the markets for the ME franchise has a strong impact too (the biggest one actually).
But yes, polish instead of spanish is definitely surprising. I guess there's a very strong ME community in Poland, or there's something we don't know about how Bioware made their choice.
If you count speakers, then you're counting a lot of people several times though. For example, I think there are around 7 million people in Canada who speak French, but most of them speak English, too.
Of course, demographics are always a little tricky.
I think we can assume that first world countries are more likely to buy games but if you play long enough online you'll encounter players from every country.

What puzzles me about this list...is I see no mention of Moon people. which is odd, considering how many people host games from there.

But where's Merican?
Edit: @Fuenf, yeah I thought so too but it seems to have changed now I guess. Spanish used to be fourth or so when I'd learned about it!
I presume, French is here because Canada. Polish is here because Muzyka, Zeschuk, and I'm not sure about Yip but all three sound like Polish. German is here because it should be and also because of this:

And then, they ran out of subforum limits. Even had to close the off topic.

Somewhere in Antiva.
Hey, lets whine about stuff just because.

Stop whining.
