Okay they are both RPG's that is at least one thing they have in common one is in a fantasy world far away in the future and the other one is in a fantasy world in the past but are there more things that the two games have in common and what are they or did Bioware did a good job of making it two totally different games.

And what game is getting your preferences the Dragon Age series or the Mass Effect series and what is your favorite game of them all including the DLC's.

So what are your opinions about this OP ?

edit. Sorry this was not my idea to post this topic twice but someone said ( i will not name names   ;) ) that i should post this topic here as well so here it is because he/she said that it was not fair to post my topic way over there on the other side. ( the Dragon Age side )

I generally have more fun with Mass Effect than Dragon Age.  However, I love sarcastic Hawke above everything else in DA or ME. :)

Both heavily rely on Squadmates. Both series get more and more 'cinematic'.

Personally I vastly prefer the ME series. I tried DA:O; it's a (very) good game, but I'm just not a fantasy fan. But I am a SciFi fan, so I may be biased on that regard.

The DA series relies imo way to much on the usual fantasy ground (I noticed only very minor tweaks), while the ME series always took their own spin at certain/most clichés and has (imo) a better backround world.

I also find the ME controls (minus the 'do-everything-key') and gameplay, way more intuitive and engaging than DA:O controls and gameplay.

So for me, Mass Effect outclasses DA in almost every way.

I'll post what I said in your other thread

I like both DA and ME. They have replay value which is number one for me. If I was to choose one over the other, it would be Mass Effect

As far as roleplaying, I find the DA series is better, particularly DA2 where the story and the choices involved are clearly organized around a particular  theme, i.e. security vs freedom. ME dialogue suffers in this regard because the choices are totally random as to what will be paragon and what will be rengade.

As far as game play and replayability, I find the ME series to be better, or at least ME2 and ME3. I find the closer, over-the-shoulder view of ME more engaging than the camera in DA which is very far back from character. In DA, particularly DAI I have no sense of what I am fighting because they are so small on the screen. I am just holding down the attack key and letting the interface choose my targets, versus in ME I am sighting down the barrel of my gun and can clearly see what kind of enemy I am shooting at.

I also find the ME series has much more replay value. There are so many nuances and different scenes across the trilogy based on choices made in earlier games, most notably with the genophage arc and the Rannoch arc. The DA series is very disappointing in this regard. Different choices in previous games only amount to who shows up in cameos in later games, but have no effect on the story and what the protagonist can accomplish. In this sense, ME3 was a smashing success in showing how previous choices could actually effect a later title. ME2 is more like DA2 and DAI in this regard: choices made in ME1 basically only impact who shows up in cameos in ME2 and a few lines of dialogue, but have no effect on the actual story.

Yeah, I want to say Dragon Age, because I came into Bioware gaming through DA: Origins, and I dearly love my Grey Warden and Leliana, but ultimately, that's the problem with DA. With ME, you get to stick with the same character (and characters in the case of Liara, Garrus, and Tali) while the story gets bigger, as opposed to the story getting bigger in DA, but always having to adjust to a new character, new locations, and a new set of squad mates each time. ME feels like a long TV series, with all the detail that entails, while DA feels more like a movie and two sequels that don't quite resemble each other. I like that in ME you can romance Liara all the way through (albeit, only in Lair of Shadow Broker in ME 2, but her picture is always on that desk). I like that Shepard becomes more nuanced over the games, that she (in my case) becomes such a well rounded person. And I love that characters like Garrus and Tali have story arcs that build throughout the series. It's not the same for the support characters in DA.

And while I've replayed DA a couple of times, I'm discovering that it's far more fun to replay ME 2 and ME 3 (I'd replay ME 1 more except that I really detest the missions with the vehicle, trying to climb over mountains, etc. It bores me. Plus, with Genesis, I can switch around origins/careers/decisions easier than swapping around worlds in the Dragon Age Keep.)  I also prefer playing as a warrior/rogue as opposed to a mage and DA seems really geared for mages, while ME seems more geared for the Soldier which is the career I prefer most.  Also, if I replay DA II, it's for the sake of revisiting sarcastic Hawk, not because I want to relive the story of how Kirkwall fit into the time period after the Fifth Blight or how the mage/templar tensions led to a war that really didn't go anywhere in DA: Inquisition. In ME 2, I can discover something new, a conversation, a way of looking at things, that resonates in ME 3.

Now, I'm not sure how I'll feel about ME:Andromeda with no more Shepard or the rest, or if they will make DA 4 (whatever it is) to flow from DA:I in a way that is more appealing to me. All I know is that as it stands now, I prefer ME over DA.

I will say that it took me much longer to get used to the game play with ME than it did for DA. Since I'm not really in it for the shooting and killing, I found the mouse and keyboard for DA:O and DA II and a controller for DA:I much easier to utilize than all the keys and mouse commands required for ME. (There are still times when my fingers slip in the middle of a fight and I'm desperately searching for my WASD keys while frantically clicking my mouse. That never happened to me with DA.)
