I can't shake off these uneasy feelings about Andromeda. The Mass Effect Franchise is my all time favorite game series. It has a very special place in my heart. However, im so very nervous for the next installment. Being that some of the ppl that wrote the storyline for the previous games have left, I just don't know what to expect. What if the new story and characters don't have the complexity and emotion that we're used to? I might be stupid for having these doubts and worries. Can anyone tell me some reassuring, optimistic thoughts on the next game, so I can feel better?? Thankss! I'm looking forward to any replies xx

Note: I'm not a troll, this was a serious question but some people seemed to think the opposite and became really aggravated for some reason. Although I am pretty excited and thinking about ME: A to some degree, I'm not obssessed and I didn't mean to come off as such. So, please no rude comments. If you want to reply pls do so respectfully.

Honestly...no, I have the same uneasy feeling. And I was one of the people who predicted and has always supported the move to Andromeda. But, in not canonizing a ME3 ending (a good decision) by drastically altering the setting, you have to be very, very careful with the story that you write so that it doesn't butcher the lore of the original trilogy, doesn't become cliche or use horrible plot devices like in ME3, and still captures that Mass Effect feel.

I have always maintained that this can all be done, and still do. But there are some people still on the Andromeda team (I dont need to mention who) that I honestly have very little faith in.

So to me, it could go either way. I am cautiously optimistic.

Maybe just get a life? If this is what keeps you up at night you need to be doing something different with your life.

Okay, here are some reassuring, optimistic thoughts:

  • Baldur's Gate 2
  • Knights of the Old Republic
  • Knights of the Old Republic 2
  • Jade Empire
  • Planescape: Torment
  • Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark
  • Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer

These should help take your mind off Mass Effect entirely.

Alternatively, you could just replay the trilogy.

It's good that you're like that.  Don't let yourself get too hyped.  And you're right.  The people that made the ME you know are gone.  People can blame EA or whatever else, but the fact of the matter is this will be a different game by the different team.  "Bioware" is only a mask over a revolving group of people.  How close they follow the blueprint that is "Mass Effect" will be known in time.

I say hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

We don't know much. Just remind yourself that the trilogy won't stop existing whether or not you like this game.

Also, it might be a good idea not to follow the hype too closely. When I let myself get too caught up in how much I was looking forward to DAI, it made it more disappointed when I didn't completely love it. This game will probably be very different from 1,2, and 3, so it may be better to prepare for the possibility that this game won't be everything you're hoping for rather than worrying about whether it will.

Relax. It's just a video game. A game should be used to entertain you not to make you feel nervous and anxious.

Step back, don't get too hyped, don't follow the game like a bloodhound online for months and months before it's released, don't start expecting particular things, and then sit back and experience it.

It might be great.  It might be disappointing.  Angels may float down from heaven and sing and aria as you play the final moments.  You may fall into a pit of despair that you can't climb out of.  No one knows and there's no point speculating.

Just wait.  Go distract yourself and then simply play it.  :)

I'm pretty sure ME1 already beat you to butchering the lore of the original setting. Unless you think Navigator Priestly is the oldest 20 year old ever (remember his grandfather fought in the first contact war).

What?  It's been thirty years since the war right?   So if he's say.....40, then he'd have been 10 during the war.  His dad could be about 30-35, so his grandfather would then be 50-60.  That fits with Anderson and Hackett, he could be an older officer who's doing strategy and behind the scenes stuff, or a badass older soldier who can still beat the s*** outta a bunch of turians.

Totally possible.

Seriously? It's a video game! Maybe you'll like it, maybe you won't.  If you do- Great! If not move on and play something else.  No video game/movie/book/food/what have you appeals to everyone.

I don't think that's actually all that much of a problem if you assume Pressly's grandfather was around 50-60 at the time.

You beat me to answering him, thanks. It's also worth noting that people live to 150 in Mass Effect, and presumably work for a longer period of time because they are capable of doing so. Even if his grandfather was 80 in the First Contact War and in a command position, it is still a plausible statement.

True, I'd forgotten they live so long.  They'd have to work longer otherwise they'd be retired over half their lives.

Which would be pretty sweet, actually. Spending half your life retired, I mean.

Makes me wonder how old Hackett is. Dude could be like 120, lol. I think his actual birth date is listed in the Mass Effect timeline like Anderson's is, I'm just too lazy to look it up.

Ashley also makes a response like "I hope I look that good when I am 104" in response to Liara in ME1 - a tongue in cheek joke, obviously, but the subtext is that it implies that people at 104 in Mass Effect dont look like absolute **** like they do in real life.

150 years of life when you look the age wouldn't be very fun at all.

Note: If there are any 104 year olds among us, I apologize for saying that you look like ****.

This, I'm excited for Andromeda too but usually it helps to just keep expectations reigned in for the time being. Play the game for what it is, play it with an open mindset really. You might enjoy the game a lot more by doing that.  :)
