How did we get to MEA? Did people leave before the reaper invasion or right in the middle.of it? Personally I believe the "ark" left right after thessia fell or at least around that time. It makes the most sense out of all the theories and it doesn't screw with the endings. What are the other possibilities that may be plausible?

That does make the most sense, and I suspect they will probably go that route. Plus, we know that the technology is roughly the galactic standard during ME3 (we are using the M-40 Mako, we used the M-35 Mako in ME1 and the M-44 Hammerhead in ME2.) - so a departure sometime around ME3 is obvious. After ME3 is unreasonable, it defeats the obvious reason that they changed the setting to Andromeda - to avoid the endings.

So that leaves a departure pre-ME3 or during. Some people think the most recent trailer is literal - Earth wasn't trashed then, so they assume the departure is pre-Reaper War. No trailer should be taken literally though, so I think a mid-war departure still makes the most sense.

And if they are clever, they will retroactively make the Asari Councilors words meaningful - "I have continuity of civilization to address". Obviously they hadn't dreamed up Andromeda or the Ark yet, but this was a curious statement even in ME3 - wtf do you mean?? Continuity? The Reapers will obliterate every single world in the goddamn galaxy with time. That statement, to me even back then, heavily implied a contingency plan. When ME3 first came out, I assumed it was a vague nod to the numerous contingency plans that the Protheans attempted - but really, you can only "continue" civilization in the face of galactic level apocalypse in one of two ways: 1) hide. Or 2) Run. That's it.

Shepard was indoctrinated. While he was unleashing hell on the galaxy with a giant laser beam that destroyed the relays and left the survivors ripe for the picking; we the players, were going into stasis on a magic spaceship reverse engineered from collector dung and unicorns. Said ship then found a wormhole opened by the firing of the crucible. Now Stargazers grandson is on a mission to find Buzz Aldrin before the Khet do. Playing as one of two children fathered by the Illusive man you must stop Stargazer before he opens a portal back to the Milky Way, unleashing the Reapers on a new galaxy and its civilizations.

10/10 would play. Only half joking. I think itd be epic if they actually had the balls to pick a canon ending, and then hilariously give the finger by say, turning Control Shep into Starchild 2.0 and having the cycle actually continue.

That'd be hilarious. It reminds me of that South Park episode when good people end up in hell, much to their confusion, and the person doing the introductions informs them that the right choice was actually being Mormon, and then everyone is like "awwwwwwwwww dammit I guessed wrong".

The nerdrage on these forums would be glorious.

I agree. Pick one and move on, other companies have done it in the past and in the end it worked. I think F.E.A.R did something similar with their DLC packs that contradicted the games.

They simply aren't canon.

Your Shep picking control could ultimately take place in an AU as if to say: Your Shepard chose that path, this Shepard chose differently, same for synthesis.

Sadly, it'll never happen. Although I do agree - a canon ending is how you continue the story in the MW. But I do support ignoring the endings altogether. Back in the day, its one of the things that allowed prediction that the story would move to Andromeda. When Bioware came out and finally confirmed it, I supported the decision then too. I think ignoring the shitstorm that was the endings is overall the smartest thing to do.

That said, I am concerned about the story of Andromeda being a mess since I have recently learned from some informed folks on this forum that literally every single one of the writers that wrote my favorite parts of the trilogy (although most notably L'Etoile) are entirely gone from Mass Effect. Which makes me worried about the direction that Andromeda will go.

It's ok, we've all been new to the forum. :) I was just being a tease. Looking back a few pages on the forum will help you see topics that need to be revived instead of remade a few times over.

The sad part is that post is made up of real theories. C'mon Bioware we're starving over here!
