Soooo.....

Anyone else concerned that they'll pull an EA's Battlefront on this series and ditch the singleplayer campaign, story, lore, and character building aspects and turn it into another multiplayer cashgrab? Like a sleugh of recent titles that have basically been cheap map packs with lackluster and average gameplay, and then 100s of bucks of DLC and season passes?

Because that seems like something scummy that might come of the series, especially if corporate greed reigns supreme.

Yes. Especially with the ME3 multiplayer. I think mp should be for free for everyone without wasting money for a game people already paid for.

Yes, BioWare is going to randomly decide that the singleplayer stories they've built their entire reputation on are completely worthless and proceed to alienate most of their fans by releasing a multiplayer cash-grab.

You truly have a profound understanding of this industry.

That worked with Battlefront just because of the massive Star Wars hype going on at the time.  Try it with a more niche property like Mass Effect, and the "game" would be in the bargain bin in a week.

Would they be dumb enough to try it anyway?  Couldn't say.

God I hope EA would not be stupid enough to do that. Bioware's whole purpose is epic single player games with story, lore and characters. They would have to be idiotic to have Bioware do a Battlefront or Battlefield type deal with Mass Effect or any series, that is not what they do. I could see ME:A having multiplayer like ME 3 and DA:I have, but that is it.

Now, what I could see EA doing is getting a different studio to do a multiplayer only, FPS Mass Effect with all of the stuff that you described. Kind of like the Star Wars Battlefront game that came out a few months ago, if EA thought that they could make a lot of money off of it.

Is the new Battlefront actually that much different from the original? I didn't stick with the series.

I've seen survival horror go from atmospheric encounters with dark enigmatic forces, whilst conserving resources and avoiding captures to a multiplayer co-op action cover based shooter genre, in multiple IPs. I've seen MMOs go from virtual worlds constructed to house massive amounts of players and foster their interactions, to being classified as cover based shooters where you can sometimes party with three other players in an instanced game.

I expect nothing but moronic moves and pandering to the lowest common denominator for the industry.

It's lacking most of the appeal, including unique units, vehicles, or an actual soul/spit of effort.... Multiple maps or large scale battles.... Battlefield 2 had more interesting battles. Oh and it's missing space combat, which was quirky and fun.

But at least the reboot was pretty?

It lacks space battles, bot matches, map diversity, and a tacked on singleplayer campaign, so yes, I'd say it was fairly different. Though, of all the multiplayer exclusives of late, it's the absolute worst. Using it as an indication of a downward trend isn't very fair.

1. EA isn't the absolute mess that is Atari (and I guess Capcom in the other case. Regardless, the degradation of the horror genre is completely irrelevant to BioWare)

2. BioWare has already confirmed ME:A will have singleplayer; are you calling them liars?

3. Plenty of people enjoy both Destiny and The Division, not just this supposed lowest common denomiator

4. You can't really blame consoles for not being able to handle the scale of a proper MMO

This!

Resident Evil for example. Those games were awesome horror games but now they're made into shooter games.

No, I'm not. EA knows that Bioware's main strength is singleplayer and won't get rid of their RPG developer. As for it being a cashgrab, I'm not worried about that either since for both ME3 and DAI, all the multiplayer stuff was free. You could spend money on packs, but there was nothing exclusive to those who spent money.

Nope, not worried at all. There's no point in going to Andromeda for a ME multiplayer only. They could have simply expanded on the ME3MP in the MW, and we'd been happy. It would have saved them a lot of ressources.

Plenty of people enjoy both Destiny and The Division, but I'd not call them narrative masterpieces. Which is really what my concern is, that the narrative/story/lore/roleplaying aspect might end up trashed for "LOL360NoScope!" money.

I unno, I'm probably just paranoid.

They're not narrative masterpieces because they were made by developers now known for their narratives (Destiny is a special case however).

Yes, you, like so many others, are being paranoid and making spurious connections to events in the industry without regard to context.

That would be suicide for the franchise because everyone plays the games for the single player.

Since Star Wars Battlefront is being used as a comparison, it should be noted EA and DICE are saying the next Star Wars Battlefront will have a singleplayer campaign included in it.

Thank the goddess, but yeah as others have already stated EA forcing Bioware to turn ME:A or its sequels into multiplayer focused games would be an incredibly stupid move and would probably result in massive financial loss.

When I tried to play multiplayer for the very first time in 2013, a page came up saying that I should pay 9$ to sign up for multiplayer. To me that's a hell no I don't want to pay extra money for a game I paid for and paying again for something that should be for free.

What? The MP is free if you bought the game. I have no idea what you're talking about.

Singleplayer is all drama. Just put something out and focus on the multiplayer, BioWare.

Happened to Halo and AC and it worked. Which is how DLC packs first got started, remember?

Neither of those series have lost their singleplayer campaigns... Sure, the campaigns are garbage now, but that has very little to do with multiplayer but rather a general lack of competency in their development.

ME:A may have paid map packs and the like, but it won't be exclusively that. Just look at Garden Warfare 2; the game is perfectly fun in spite of its microtransaction model (which is fairly similar to ME3's anyway). I'm actually surprised that DA:I had free MP content, maybe we'll be surprised again.

I love it when people have memories that surpass the lifespan of a fly.

It would be nice if others had critical thinking skills that surpassed a fly's as well.
