What? The MP is free if you bought the game. I have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm not making this up when I say this. It happened to me.

It would be nice if others had critical thinking skills that surpassed a fly's as well.

Unlikely, I like to err on the side of caution and hysteria.

That said I still feel like they're gunna **** us sideways and do something to completely neuter the franchise. EA's fond of that... Deadspace, SimCity, Battlefront just to name a few.

And it's not unlike the industry to make completely moronic moves because of focus groups or "we're trying to capture a new audience."

I hope I'm not right, and that ME:A comes shipped with a wholesome and insightful singleplayer campaign with a great narrative. But... I expect garbage.

Garbage wrapped in Battlefield/Call of Duty wrapping paper.

To be fair, they already did that with ME3, though thankfully not to the gameplay.

I'm somewhat about worried about ME:A's singleplayer: it's story and breadth:depth ratio, but it will have a singleplayer. Given what we know so far, I can't imagine ME:A being any worse than DA:I was. That may not be ideal, but it wouldn't be the end of the world.

In terms of multiplayer, EA has been inconsistent. While Battlefront and the most recent Battlefields have been less than stellar, Garden Warfare 2 and ME3MP were, barring their microtransaction models (which are better than most), quality multiplayer games.

I bought the trilogy brand new and I don't even know why the hell should I get an online pass to get mp for free where they should have it for free in the first place.

Speak your mind all you want, just do it in a way that others can understand. Otherwise you're just vomiting gibberish for no reason.

Neither of those series have lost their singleplayer campaigns... Sure, the campaigns are garbage now, but that has very little to do with multiplayer but rather a general lack of competency in their development.

ME:A may have paid map packs and the like, but it won't be exclusively that. Just look at Garden Warfare 2; the game is perfectly fun in spite of its microtransaction model (which is fairly similar to ME3's anyway). I'm actually surprised that DA:I had free MP content, maybe we'll be surprised again.

I'm not saying they will get rid of SP or that those games have. What i am saying is that when one company does it, successfully, the others follow suit. Where i live McDonalds turned Angus beef burgers into a success. So everybody else did it. The same thing happened in gaming with map packs, then weapon packs, then skins, then weapon skins, then exclusive characters, then all of a sudden expansion packs disappeared and we have "stuff that otherwise would not have been completed." being sold instead, in smaller packages that cost 2/3 more than the expansion packs (which had more content).

It's capitalism one guy does it and makes money so everyone else follows suit i fully expect some sort of cashgrab to come out of this but i suspect it's going to be the MP'ers who'll pay through the nose thankfully. The next Mass Effect spin off might not be so lucky.

When I tried to play multiplayer for the very first time in 2013, a page came up saying that I should pay 9$ to sign up for multiplayer. To me that's a hell no I don't want to pay extra money for a game I paid for and paying again for something that should be for free.

When in 2013 did this happen for in May 2013 they outright removed all the passes from their games, but if you bought the game new it should have had a key to add the multiplayer for free.  The only way you would have gotten the request to buy the DLC is if you didn't input the key you got for the game or it was purchased used.

I bought the trilogy brand new it wasn't used and I got the MP DLCs for free too, but paying for registering to access mp? That's stupid!

But what have those games done that will make its way into Mass Effect?

The only valid concern I see is AC's collectathon quest design, but nothing so sinister as the original post suggests.

I suppose you could mean microtransactions in singleplayer, but that concept has been around since (AFAIK) AC4 and Dead Space 3. Plenty of EA singleplayer games have come out since then, and I don't remember any of them having SP microtransactions so I'd say that it's prety safe to assume that we're not going to get any of that.

If the majority of EA's recent MP titles (Garden Warfare 2 and DA:I) are any indication, I think the microtransaction model for ME:A will be relatively fair. Even the most recent Halo has an incredibly fair microtransaction model, and 343's providing sizable updates for free. I just think it's a bit too soon to start crying bloody murder.

You don't have to pay for MP access. How many times do you have to hear this?

I believe console gamers have to pay for online access to play any MP, which is not the case for PC gamers. So console gamers get the MP content, but they can't play if they don't pay that 'online fee'. At least, that's what a console gamer told me. I find it pretty odd, but then it seems to me it's more a problem with console support policies rather than BW's or EA's fault.

Soooo.....

Anyone else concerned that they'll pull an EA's Battlefront on this series and ditch the singleplayer campaign, story, lore, and character building aspects and turn it into another multiplayer cashgrab? Like a sleugh of recent titles that have basically been cheap map packs with lackluster and average gameplay, and then 100s of bucks of DLC and season passes?

Because that seems like something scummy that might come of the series, especially if corporate greed reigns supreme.

I wouldn't compare Battlefront to the kind of games BioWare does.

I'm curious as to what "story lore and character building aspects" you are are referring to, since every edition of Battlefront that I played was either team deathmatch multiplayer or team deathmatch single player. It was not an RPG like Mass Effect, and while the new one kind of blows compared to the old ones, there isn't a single parallel that I can find between them that would support your assertion. Unless you are suggesting that EA would interfere so heavily at the development level that they would micromanage game design (which seems like a silly assertion.)

I shouldn't have clicked on this thread.

That would be suicide for the franchise because everyone plays the games for the single player

It would be a bad idea to do it, yes, but the rest of your statement is completely false.

Yes. Especially with the ME3 multiplayer. I think mp should be for free for everyone without wasting money for a game people already paid for.

ME 3 multiplayer is, and always has been, free, except for a brief period on Xbox and PS3 in 2012 before Online passes were removed and only then for used disc copies of the game that had already been registered under another GT.

When I tried to play multiplayer for the very first time in 2013, a page came up saying that I should pay 9$ to sign up for multiplayer. To me that's a hell no I don't want to pay extra money for a game I paid for and paying again for something that should be for free.

In 2013? The online pass was discontinued. What you experienced was probably an error that would have been resolved by contacting EA.

I'm not making this up when I say this. It happened to me.

Errors happen. If you had contacted EA support, they would have resolved it for you.

If it is then I wouldn't say nothing about it.

Clearly, MP is free, and has always been free. You are accusing everyone else of lying and then getting defensive when people point out that you're wrong.

This is not the case. MP has always been free on all platforms.

Like that time they released maps for $14.99 but there was only two of them and one of them was already unlocked if you have Omega.

Thank you for the information I didn't even know it was an error and I was unaware of all this and I own a PS3 not PC. And I'm not even defensive I just didn't know.

Ok so I'm apparently the only one who was here from the start of online passes. I don't remember the date but EA "removed" online passes from their games. You used to have to pay $10 for the pass if you bought used. If you bought new a single use code of your respective platform's configuration wold be on a flier in the box for the online pass.

The online pass still exists, however instead of releasing a patch on all their games they felt it easier to change the price tag to $0. Just go on your respective drm and "purchase" it for the bank breaking price of $0.00.

But wait there's more, do so in the next 10 minutes and also redeem the cerberus network for me2, shale for dao, and black emporium for DA2 for the additional cost of free!

That sounds like a bit of an odd conclusion to reach after several people have already explained that online passes had to be purchase for used copies until EA removed that requirement.
