I don't know, man. How big can it really be if it still fits on a disc?
AvP2010 is on 2 discs.

I'm downloading. I bought myself an external hard drive for my Xbox one and I'll definitely be preordering the game so I'll set it to download the day before lol. I'll be fine
Too bad my PS4 doesn't have more space on its drive, it'd be playing it there otherwise I think. But if it turns out to be a good game I'll get a copy of the game on disc for it as well xD

Size is only a positive if there are meaningful things to do in that space. If it's just huge zones where we do nothing but pick Flowers of Life and kill the occasional Invid, then I will be disappointed.
Yeah I'd be far more excited if they said the depth was staggering. This open world arms race worries me.

Why is everyone losing their minds over the assumption that open world element automatically comes at the cost of narrative, hub areas, and extensive cosmetic features like character development, NPCs, and hat options when really they should be expecting mind shattering revelations such as ME:A takes place thousand years after the ME3 destroy ending and yet the main character is none other than the original Shepard who some how appears out of left field with no memory of anything beyond the first encounter with the Prothean beacon.

Because everyone but Rockstar sucks at it.
Just a guess.

Inquisition had a bad story imo which was a real shame but I think it was because they focused too much on the open world thing that they neglected the story.
I've noticed that once Bioware finally gets good at focusing and improving a certain area of a game, they somehow can't help but neglect another important area of the game. Something important always suffers for it.

Huge and biggest Bioware has made sound negative to me instead of positive. Makes me wonder about marketing of the game.
The important and actually interesting information is confirmation of Ryder.

I'll be playing No Man's Sky which is going to be several times larger in map size than the entire game of ME:A.
It's safe to say that no map size is really going to "stagger" me.
The Geth will probably stagger me, though.

But it still doesn't make sense with the scale of how big space actually IS. Consider the Milky Way - 400 billion stars, presumably millions of star clusters. Of the handful of intelligent, spacefaring civilizations, not only did they all originate from different star clusters, but the clusters were separated by tens of thousands of light years.
Having you explore one star cluster, but run into multiple new civilizations is kind of absurd. It would imply that in Andromeda, intelligent alien species are almost literally on top of each other. It's the kind of idiocy that is rampant in Sci Fi like Star Trek. It makes more sense for species like that to be widely separated in space, as such civilizations are presumably incredibly rare (when considering the sheer number of star systems and life bearing worlds in a galaxy compared to the number of intelligent civilizations).
Remember that the Milky Way has had the Reapers killing off intelligent space faring cultures for millions of years. And that only a very tiny proportion of the milky way had been explored - exploration mostly stuck to the relay network, and even that was curtailed following the Rachni wars.
Though if Andromeda lacks Reapers or the equivalent, then there'll be the question of why the Andromedan civilisations don't utterly outclass us tech-wise.

Having played DAI but not any of its dlc, I'm wondering whether there is any indication that Bioware learned from some of their initial open world-related mistakes and took steps to de-emphasize fetch quests and make the world more interesting in the dlc?

Every time a dev brags about how massive their game is I feel a sense of dread, is there going to be enough meaningful content to fill this "staggering" world? Will the areas be full of fetch quests, will they even have those? I don't mind open worlds but I want them be as open as they have content to fill.
The Witcher 3 restored some of my hopes for this trend Bethesda has created for all rpgs I guess. So maybe there is hope.
Hopefully they can do both. I don't mind vast expanses if they are semi optional.
I would love to be able to setup some outposts, for recovery of materials, and other purposes. I think they mentioned this as a possibility but it also did sound like they were putting in some serious limitations to it, at the same time.

I don't know, man. How big can it really be if it still fits on a disc?
Just FYI for those who are interested. I didn't know this before:
From Wikipedia: Blue-Ray
"Conventional (pre-BD-XL) Blu-ray Discs contain 25 GB per layer, with dual layer discs (50 GB) being the industry standard for feature-length video discs. Triple-layer discs (100 GB) and quadruple-layers (128 GB) are available for BD-XL re-writer drives.
The main application of Blu-ray is as a medium for video material such as feature films and physical distribution of video games for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Standard resolution DVD discs have been limited to a maximum resolution of 480i (NTSC, 720×480 pixels) or 576i (PAL, 720×576 pixels).
High-definition video may be stored on Blu-ray discs with up to 1080p resolution (1920×1080 pixels), at up to 60 (59.94) fields or 60 frames per second.[citation needed]"
Edit: I really hope the standard/optimized screen resolution for Andromeda's graphics will be this.
An aside note: The Holographic Versatile Disc (HVD), described in the ECMA-377 standard, has been in development by The Holography System Development (HSD) Forum using a green writing/reading laser (532 nm) and a red positioning/addressing laser (650 nm). It is to offer MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AVC (H.264), HEVC (H.265), and VC-1 encoding, supporting a maximum storage capacity of 6TB. No systems corresponding to the Ecma International HVD standard have been released.
Who knows? Maybe Andromeda will need 2 BDs for distribution and game installation. We live in interesting technology times.
Imagine what would be necessary if 4K video was included for pre-rendered scenes and on-the-fly graphics. I shudder and weap at what's become of us.

I believe I read somewhere that the Blu-rays that PS4 and XBones use a higher bitrate, so they can put more info on them.

The important and actually interesting information is confirmation of Ryder.
But is it a real confirmation or just the writer assuming too much? Although the idea the new protagonist is named in honour of Sally Ride* would mirror Shepard's case.
*(I was going to point out that "the first female astronaut" was Valentina Tereshkova, then remembered that the Russian word is "cosmonaut". Still don't know if the writer was aware of the different terminology or it was ignorance saved by a lucky shot).

Meh... If Bioware released info that said the ME:A world wasn't impressively big... people here would just be on about it not being big enough and not open enough to suit them. Darned if they do and darned if they don't.
I'll just wait to see what it really means when the game is released.
I just wish they'd brag about story not world size. This cult of open world is starting to annoy me.

I think the new consoles are playing a role here. With better hardware and more memory, devs want to push things to the limit. Sad thing is, they're already reaching that limit this early in the cycle.

World size is one of the things you can brag about quantifiably. Story is harder because it's subjective. Plus, the more you say about story, the greater the risk of giving away story points.
