What do you guys/girls think will there ever be a movie director who would make a movie out of Inquisition or Origins or another one of those RPG's out there.

There are already so many games where they made a movie of for instance Tomb Raider Resident Evil and so on and so forth. Or the other way around from movie to game for instance Star Wars The Fifth Element and so on and so forth.

About a year ago i heard a rumor but it was nothing more then a rumor.

So what do you think will they ever make a Movie out of Inquisition or Origins or another one ?

I don't think it's possible for a Dragon Age movie to be made based on the games. Everyone's made different decisions along the way and each of us imagines our PC with varying personality traits. I doubt Bioware would like to enforce any sort of canon even if it was in a movie.

I think Origins would be a better movie material, with the smaller group of main characters and a bit more "personal" storyline. It should be cut into multiple movies though, for storytelling purposes (and more money with yearly releases!)

If it were a movie trilogy, I guess the first movie should be about the Warden becoming a Warden, presenting one of the origins (human noble is my favourite, but it would work with any), the trials of the Warden recurits, and the movie culminating in the battle of Ostagar, Flemeth's rescue and the Warden, Alistair and Morrigan setting out to start their quest.

The second movie would be about gathering allies (party members (with a reduced number of them though) and factions (shorter main quest storylines)) and dealing with being a Grey Warden, learning about the eventual and inevitable spread of the corruption in every Warden etc. I don't really know how the main quests should be presented well in a 2,5 hour movie though.

The third movie would feature the landsmeet in the first half, and the battle of Denerim in the second. Dark ritual is optional, though it would provide some nince added mysterious stuff.

I hope so it would be great if some Director made a movie like Taki 17 mentioned in his thread to make a trilogy or something like that.

No.

This would be terrible, and would just make people feel that there was a "canon" story, and that their choices weren't valid. Any movie would have to cut out 90% of the content to actually make it fit in 2-3 hours, and everyone would be disappointed that their favourite parts weren't featured and that they didn't get to actually see a movie that reflected what they experienced in the game.

I don't think any of the games would make particular good movies - they'd have to cut too much to squeeze them into that format.

I think the franchise would have to be a lot more popular with the general public to inspire a live action movie, anyway. There haven't been any films based on cRPGs I can think of, although Warcraft is coming out some time this year. Although, given the usual quality of video game films, this may be a blessing in disguise.

I'd certainly love to see a big budget, live action film with an original story set in Thedas - something like Dawn of the Seeker only on the big screen - but I don't think it's likely to happen any time soon.

The problem with a movie is the limitation of 90 minutes to 2 hours.  Think of the difference between the Harry Potter books and Harry Potter films:  important secondary characters had their rolls shrunk or eliminated entirely, making the films a little choppy for those who read the books.  Think also of how many hours you play the various Dragon Age games even if you concentrate on major quests only.  Very, very hard to abbreviate into a coherent movie.  A lengthy TV mini-series perhaps?

Also, remember part of the appeal of the Dragon Age games is being able to customize your PC:  male or female, straight or gay, human, elf, or whatever.  That's lost in a movie.

True.

Excellent question. Hollywood made at least three Final Fantasy movies and besides licensing there's no reason to think a DA movie couldn't be produce if the producer thought the movie would make money even as a 2 hour animated  TV movie.

IMHO the best candidates would be DA:O, "The Calling" or "The Stolen Throne".

Based on the setting, sure. But not a rehash of the games themselves. Redemption and Dawn of the Seeker were low-budget peeks into what this kind of thing could be.

I'd love to see a live-action version of the Fourth Blight, or Andraste's life story, or the fall of the Dales... but seeing some of that would probably take a lot of the ambiguity away, so... maybe just the Fourth Blight. GRIFFONS!

I don't see why not it all depends on who is taking on that kind of job to make a movie ( t.v. series ) out of them.

You could be right what you say here i admit it would be very difficult to make a movie out of an RPG because well the game is so huge and there are so many choices and all of us have so many different experiences in that game and then make a movie out of that yeah maybe that would be impossible.

If there were to be a Dragon Age film made, I'd prefer that it be of some historical event, like the first Blight, or the Second Sin (fall of the magisters), and so on. This is what they did with the Dawn of the Seeker movie, which is canon. Because the games that take place in the present are RPGs, having a fixed protagonist would really ruin the allure for me.

No, videogames movies have been always bad , I don't know why every videogame movie ends being a big mess, anime movies like Dawn of the Seeker or TV series like Halo Nightfall are decent but proper movies such like Tomb Raider or Doom straight up suck.

2 problems

1) most movies based on games are bad

2) a movie directly based on a game would, arguably, "canonise" one version sidelining other options for the protagonist or in-game choices  - more than existing products have for Dragon Age

In the Star Wars KOTOR games I had a female Revan and a male exile and feel put-off by later works which swap their genders around

Consequently, I feel any Dragon Age movie should

1) not be based on a game

and 2) have Bioware's writers significantly involved with enough power to make sure the setting and characters are treated with respect and not changed to be more what the director/producer/etc feels a videogame should be like (based on his perception of a completely different game)

...but make sure Uwe Boll DOESN'T get to direct...

As a television series sure, on prequels to DAO yep. But as movies no, and certainly not on any of the games we currently have. But prequel material they could go to town with; Maric and the Orlesian occupation I can see that, The Ancient Dwarves and the Forgotten War that too. And the Evanuris especially given that these are still unknown in detail in DA lore.

I hope not.   Problem with games being made into movies is the cutting that would have to be done.   A game is 40-60 hours in length.   Crushing that into just 2-3 hours ends up cutting out most of the stuff that makes the games great.

The games are too large to work as a movie, even if you were to split origins into a trilogy, it's still just too big
the only way i could foresee any decent adaptation taking place would be in the form of a big budget tv series akin to GoT. Otherwise lots of companions would have to be cut and so much lore and dialogue would be cut as well. There's just not enough room in movies for the downtime and character building that makes origins so great.
1st season has the wardens origin + Ostagar + Redcliff/ broken circle/ Urn of sacred ashes
2nd season follows the Paragon of her kind quest line
with the third season encompassing Nature of the beast (the shortest of the main quests) and then all the landsmeet, final battle stuff

There's a single exception in my DVD collection: the Ace Attorney film is pretty great! It's definitely a statistical outlier, though.

This.

I could fully get behind a movie set in Thedas, I've enjoyed other dragon age extended universe stuff. And if they got a dragon age writer to do/help with the script like they do with the books it could be awesome.

But I don't want to see a bad remake of the video games.

Since we are talking about a video game movie, I think all of you should be more thankful, that I'm absolutely positive that I'm not related at all to Uwe Boll :D
