People who say the settings of stories are characters in stories are always pretentious. Always.

They literally can't stay in the Milky Way without pissing off the entire fanbase.

It's actually really hilarious.

Take back mass effect really bit itself asking for new endings. Now they're so defined we'll never see Sol system again without a reboot.

But i was there for that so a part of me thinks its amusing to watch.

@Op No choice but to move on from the old characters. As awesome as they are they've been killed off forever. I would like to stay and keep going but they waited us out and 5 years later I think most of us are just ready to say stuff it and swallow Andromeda.

The time for going back and fixing the ending ( IT Dark Energy whatever your pref) is long gone, they squandered it.

You should accept that these are the circumstances the new game exists within.

The wisdom of the following statement is easily applied here: You go to war with army that you have. - Garrus Vakarian.

I know a part of me will miss the Milky Way and the locations and people in that setting, but another part of me is excited to see what Andromeda will offer and bring to the franchise. Based off all the concept art and what we've seen I'm looking forward to going to the Andromeda galaxy.

if'n it takes so long to make/get to Andromeda, they could of made some more DLC, even if generic... something to kill the time waiting on new stuff. I hope that it doesn't just fizzle out like other 'promising' VG's.

They did address some people's concerns, but those who wanted a new ending or one exact to their liking weren't going to get it. I'm glad Bioware stood up to those people and said no.

They could never satisfy the fringe elements that wanted perfection. But in the end they did screw up and did get offered a way out and chose not to take it.

Too late now to do anything about it.

From what I've heard from them, they don't believe any mistakes were made on their part. They were very pleased with the game they had delivered. Fans may not like it, but that's just how it goes. No way to like every product a company produces.

BioWare didn't stand up to anyone. They changed their ending after saying they wouldn't and then tried to pretend they didn't actually change it. They wrote a horribly stupid ending and were babies about it. As much as "childish" and "entitled" were thrown around to describe the people who wanted a new ending, BioWare was worse throughout the whole thing. "Artistic integrity" my ass.

Want to stay in Milky Way do you? Not liking the change to Andromeda do you? That is the gist of this thread right?

Ok carry on

Well, I can't really complain though, because for all its issues, I like the Extended Cut a lot more than the original, so…I guess…yay whiners, and yay BioWare's lax "artistic integrity"?

If BioWare decided to set the game in the Milky Way, I would be just fine with that no matter what they did about the ending(s).  It's just not an issue with me if they deviate from their prior "canon" or stretch sci-fi logic... but my easy going nature is not in the majority here.  However, I really think it's just too late to be suggesting that they keep ME:A in the Milky Way... since they've obviously done a lot of the design work setting the game in the Andromeda Galaxy.  So, if this game is going to get released in a year, it now really needs to stay in the Andromeda Galaxy... anything else is just water under the bridge at this point... and best to just let it go.

To be honest, I think it was probably the right decision to give the franchise a fairly new start. Doesn't mean that it'll automatically make everything better but I see a lot of potential in this new scenario.

I just hope it's going to be good enough to get me past what I predict is going to be a bogus explanation for getting us to Andromeda in the first place. But if it allows them to rid themselves of a lot of baggage and do a good job with the fresh start, I might just be ok with yet one more piece of stupidity to get us there.

I wouldn't call it a complete change (rewrite/new ending). More of an extension of the original, with a few tweaks. It is not a radically different ending than the original. Kind of like what other games did. They made the original ending, and added onto it.

It's your opinion that they wrote a silly ending. There's some people though, that might disagree with you. However, just because it's a silly ending doesn't mean that they should give you a new one. Normally after you purchase a game, if you don't like the ending, tough.

People were labeled as entitled because they tried to demand that Bioware write a new ending. Even after being told they weren't going to get one. Instead of simply making a single request and moving on.

The normal way to do it is to make a single request to them, and if they say no, then you accept that you won't be getting a new ending.

I never called it a complete change, but it was obviously more than a few tweaks. The original ending(singular) was a galaxy thrown into a dark age and the crew of the Normandy stuck on a Garden of Eden planet just to justify a stupid Adam & Eve allegory with Joker and EDI. That was all totally reversed.

Maybe Andromeda will be a great game but to me it won't be a ME-game.

Says who? I'm still genuinely surprised with such statements, not only you have no idea what's like it will be, but start to judge on everyone's regard.

And it's Shepherd, Paragon in love, Renegade in wrath. Protector of devoted, Judge of lost.

It's actually really hilarious.

You're assuming the entire fanbase likes or even wanted the endings to begin with. Even the people who are okay with the endings are generally just as okay with retroactively getting rid of them if that means they can have more Mass Effect stories. So, in reality, they literally can't stay in the Milky Way without pissing off an incredibly small minority of the fanbase, but that incredibly small minority has a disproportional say in what goes - and here's the kicker:

That disproportionally influential minority are the developers of BioWare.

That is still a laughably bad analogy.

He even says himself in that quote that it's not a good analogy. World War 1 and 2 at least take place on the same planet.

I'd very much disagree with most points of the OP's post. I think it is perfectly possible to have a good Mass Effect game outside of the Milky Way.

I  don't think most people would be ok with them turning round and retconning ME3.

Also isn't it several years too late for this post, the horse has bolted, the game will be set in Andromeda.

This.

I'm pretty much indifferent as to where the next ME is set, who the characters are and such, as long as I have fun playing it, and so far they have failed to disappoint me.

Only if your EMS is high. If your EMS is really low the mass relays are permanently damaged and the Normandy doesn't get off that planet.

Don't see what's so bad about a technological dark age. Even the concept artists were hinting at the permanent mass relay destruction and life without the Citadel. It wasn't as bleak as people made it out to be.
