Are Asari really aliens? The look like blue women with a weird hat. There's a reason why Liara was a romance option instead of either Garrus or Tali, and the developers were even wondering why anyone would be into Garrus.

But we're talking about the game; of course we're not talking in a real sense. I'm expressing my Cerberus enthusiasm because I like the group within the game. It's fun. IRL, I believe everyone and everything should be treated with respect and dignity, it's only logical 
What kind of companions would you all like to see in Mass Effect: Andromeda?
Less companions. I want quality over quantity in this game. More dialogue, more back story, more interaction within the context of the story. Give us a reason to bring them along other than these two are interesting, those two are not.

The classes aren't important at this stage, what I mean is having a reason within the game mechanics to bring them along. If you have an Infiltrator then have missions where having an infiltrator would be more advantageous than having a Soldier. It would bring a more strategic layer to the companion system.
Having less companions, and so less actors also allows for more dialogue to be recorded by the few you do have. I don't want companions there solely as eye candy, I want them to be embedded as deeply within the story as the protagonist is.
Having less companions with more material allows the player to form a greater emotional attachment to them and allow for greater immersion within the game. You are a team and as such you should all bring something different to the table and the game should reflect that, both in its mechanics and in its story.
I think personality and character backstory matter more then the race of the companion IMO. Say you got another drell and a batarian on the team. Wouldn't you want them to have a more unique personality then just their racial background? Like if your batarian squadmate just had all of Kaiden's dialogue, wouldn't you be a bit miffed that this is just a Kaiden clone but with 4 eyes? Or if you had a drell squadmate who was exactly like Thane, isn't that no fun?
Now, I know why I would want a batarian squadmate. The society they come from would be interesting to learn more about, from a day to day point of view. Issues such as classism, autocratic rule by a single state, and being essentially a third world fighter could all be awesome to explore. The potential of a character breaking the mold of expectation as well could be cool, like a rebel batarian who was opposed to some of the slavery practices. Or one who wanted to depose the hegemony for ruling over everything else. You could also have one that doubles down on being an ******* and have another Javik or Zaeed type, which a lot of people seem to enjoy. There's a lot of potential there, just as there was for characters like Wrex, Garrus, Jack, and even Jacob and Miranda. Since this is post Me3 we can even have them talk about their new place being hit hardest by the reapers, if that will even matter in Andromeda's setting. It could be an old wound that they can never quite recover from, like the Quarians and Rannoch, that they lost their homeworld and people to their own pride.
There is a lot of potential there, that I think should be taken into consideration over just having them being a Batarian, and that's it. There's a lot more then just physical appearance that should go into a squadmate.
Since Asari are the most human-like alien species phisically and very attractive I thought that if we were to have only two romances an Asari as the female one would be a good choice (I'd have someone like Samara, a badass Asari biotic warrior).you forgot about a human female.

They do have the mindmelding thing too. Coupled with enslavement. That's the stuff of nightmares, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm seriously curious.
In an ideal world they wouldn't. But that's just the nature of the game in question: "aliens" that look like, function like and sound like humans, and so that players (male and/or female) will form attachments to them. It's not hard science fiction at all... don't forget that ME was basically designed as a Captain Kirk simulator.
