That's because it has dedicated servers, with tons of ram, CPU, and expensive high-bandwidth low-latency connections. In DAI-MP and ME3MP they are hosted by porn surfing dial up users from antarctica.
BFs have up to 64 player matches against each other at 30 ticks. That needs some RAM, etc. We are talking about some simple setup with 4 (maybe 6?) player coop with apparently lower ticks and some AI enemies. Even such crappy game as The Division could handle it although Dead Zone is a bit messy depending on the number of players connected to a hub.
IMO, ME3 setup is normally working fine as it is but matchmaking and host selection might need some work. The thing does not check for nothing and creates some absurd connections. There should be some limit on p2p ping, lost packet check and specs for hosting at least on PC. Otherwise, indeed, MEA will turn into another DAIMP.
As I understand, the main problem with dedicated servers are the consoles as each server you rent has to be Sony/MS certified while maintaining some degree of customization. But I'm not sure what problems might be with PC servers. And it is not very expensive these days, you can get some 90 days for like 50-60 bucks. Probably, hosting for me3tweaks is more expensive than this.
